  • Clean Restrooms: Visitors can expect well-maintained and clean washroom facilities, complete with showers, ensuring comfort and hygiene during their stay.

  • Campstore Access: A campstore is conveniently located nearby, offering essential supplies, snacks, and perhaps even souvenirs, reducing the need to leave the park for forgotten items.

Cove View Campground, as part of Natural Tunnel State Park, boasts several features and highlights that set it apart as a premier camping destination in Virginia:

  • Proximity to Natural Tunnel: The campground's most significant highlight is its direct access to the Natural Tunnel, a massive geological formation carved by water through a limestone ridge. This natural wonder is a truly awe-inspiring sight and a focal point for park visitors.

  • Variety of Accommodation Options: While known for its open RV and tent sites, Cove View also offers furnished yurts for rent. These yurts provide a unique "glamping" experience, complete with views of the forest extending from the ridge, offering a comfortable and slightly more luxurious alternative to traditional camping.

  • Access to Hiking Trails: The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring Natural Tunnel State Park’s extensive network of hiking trails. From easy strolls to more challenging treks, there are options for all fitness levels, leading to scenic overlooks and historical points of interest.

  • Family-Friendly Environment: The spacious sites, recreational opportunities, and safe environment make Cove View an excellent choice for families looking to introduce children to the joys of the outdoors.

  • Comparison with Lover's Leap Campground: It’s worth noting that Cove View is one of two campgrounds in the park. While Cove View offers convenient pull-through sites, its counterpart, Lover's Leap Campground, located about 1/8 mile away, provides back-in sites that are often described as more secluded and private, offering campers a choice based on their preference for privacy versus accessibility.

Large open sites. Not very private with water and hydro hookups. The washrooms are clean with showers. There is a campstore close by. Laundry is available in the Lovers Leap area not too far away with 2 washers & dryers. We hiked to the Visitor Center and then down to the tunnel. Overall it was relatively easy 5KM (3 mile) hike from the campstore in Cove View. Pictures are from the tunnel, would have been great to see the train coming through the tunnel but it’s times are unpredictable.

Cove view is one of two campgrounds in Natural Tunnel State Park. Cove view has pull through sites, close to each other, each with a firepit and picnic table. Furnished yurts are available for rent along the edge of the campground with a view of the forest extending out from the ridge. Lover's leap campground is about 1/8 mile away; it has back-in sites that are more secluded and private though not completely so. Both campsites have a building that has showers and toilets.

The campsites on this campground offer virtually no privacy- seems tailored to those in RVs. We were in a tent that happened to be right alongside the road to get out of the campground so we’re often disturbed by people’s bright headlights and the sounds of cars. I will say, the staff we interacted with were incredibly friendly. This park offers lots of events on site daily. The bathrooms were nice and the campground overall seemed relatively clean. Despite this, I would probably not stay here again as it was not ideal if you plan on camping via tent.

One of two areas to camp in. This is more open, as to lover's leap which has more enclosed campsites. Both areas are very good.
