For generations of Mainers, the call of the Western Lakes and Mountains region signifies a retreat to authentic natural beauty and peaceful reflection. Among the premier destinations in this beloved region is Dummer’s Beach Campground in Weld. More than just a place to set up camp, this is a cherished institution—a family-owned and operated site since 1931, with some families returning for three or more generations to continue a treasured summer tradition.
Dummer's Beach is famous for its stunning setting right on the edge of crystal-clear Lake Webb, offering postcard-perfect views that capture the serene essence of Maine. From the spectacular sunsets painting the sky over the water to the quiet calls of the resident loons, the atmosphere here is one of total tranquility and refreshment. It is the perfect antidote to the demands of modern life, inviting visitors to simply unwind, refresh, and reconnect with nature and family.
The experience begins and ends with the majestic natural surroundings. The campground is centered around a picturesque, gradual sandy beach that stretches for about a half-mile along the shoreline. This expansive beach, combined with the calm, clean waters of the lake, creates an unparalleled spot for swimming, especially for young children, offering a safe and beautiful area for water play. For Mainers, who understand the value of a true waterfront site, Dummer's Beach represents a perfect slice of heaven, year after year.
Dummer's Beach Campground is strategically located at 9 Dummers Beach Rd, Weld, ME 04285, USA. This places it deep within the heart of the Western Maine Mountains and Lakes Region, an area renowned for its rugged landscape, pristine waters, and abundance of hiking opportunities. Despite its remote, peaceful setting, the campground remains easily accessible, making it a viable weekend or week-long getaway destination from much of Central and Southern Maine.
The local area of Weld is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. The campground is situated literally on the doorstep of Mount Blue State Park, Maine's largest state park, which is a key area for hiking, biking, and picnicking. Additionally, it provides a strategic base for tackling some of the state's most challenging and rewarding mountain ascents. The trailheads for the popular Tumbledown Public Lands, with their sweeping alpine vistas and stunning Tumbledown Pond, are only minutes away, providing ambitious day trip options for seasoned hikers.
Accessibility into the campground for RVs and trailers is straightforward. The facility is well-organized, with a variety of sites designed to maximize the incredible views and proximity to the beach. For those traveling from Lewiston or Portland, the drive is manageable, quickly transitioning from main highways into the scenic, forested roads that define this part of the state, ensuring that the relaxation begins the moment you turn onto Dummer's Beach Road.
The commitment of Dummer's Beach Campground to providing a comprehensive yet rustic camping experience is evident in its array of guest services. Catering primarily to RVs and campers, the facilities are designed for comfort and extended stays, honoring the tradition of family vacations that last for weeks.

Dummer’s Beach Campground is more than merely suitable for Mainers; it is an essential part of the state’s heritage of rustic outdoor recreation. For locals, this campground offers a rare combination of generational history and unbeatable waterfront quality that is increasingly hard to find.
First, the history of being family-owned and operated since 1931 ensures a high level of dedication and personalized service—a familiar, friendly face that is deeply valued by the local community. It carries a sense of nostalgia and trust. Second, the physical location is a Maine dream. Waking up to a view of the sun setting over the mountains and casting a glow on Lake Webb, with a half-mile of private sandy beach steps from your door, is the quintessential Maine summer experience. The gradual descent of the beach into the lake makes it superior for all-ages swimming compared to rocky or deep shorelines.
Finally, its position as a hub for exploring the largest state park and one of the state's most challenging peaks (Tumbledown) means that every outdoor interest, from a simple float on the lake to a strenuous mountain hike, can be satisfied within minutes of your campsite. For any resident of Maine seeking a peaceful summer getaway where rustic comfort meets incredible natural splendor, Dummer's Beach Campground remains an unparalleled choice to unwind and create lasting memories.
If you’re looking for a summer getaway to unwind and refresh, you’ve found it.. This place has absolutely breathtaking views, even when the sky is feeling a little moody lol. My kids and I stayed on a waterfront site so it led directly onto the beach. We spent our days exploring and playing in the sand and water. Swinging from our hammock, we found a perfect slice of heaven. When I say this is exactly what I was looking for, it was all that and more. Clean facilities with showers available. Staff super friendly and helpful. Perfect place if you have a boat/kayak, you can bring and dock it right there too. Will be back next year for sure!

Aug 17, 2025 · Margo PiresFamily camp and a couple days to relax and unwind. Stayed longer than planned and I was perfectly fine doing so.
Aug 26, 2025 · Chris WoodsumAwesome place to spend our summers! Highly recommend and hats off to Casey and staff!
Jul 17, 2025 · Gary BickfordGreat summer place! A small entrance fee per car load to get in & a little shop to buy drinks and other items. You can walk out very far before it gets deep, making it a wonderful place for kids to play in the roped off swimming area. On shore there is a nice little play ground for kids as well as lots of room for running and just playing. Don't forget your bicycle so you can ride around the camp grounds on dirt roads. There is free parking too & port-a-potties dotted around for use. Boating and camping are also to be had. A wonderful place all in all, I highly recommend it.
