When choosing a campground, factors such as location, available amenities, and the overall atmosphere play a significant role. Eggleston Springs Campground offers a setting that could appeal to a specific niche of campers, particularly those who appreciate unique natural features and perhaps a different kind of ambient soundscape. This article aims to provide a factual and engaging overview of Eggleston Springs Campground, allowing Virginia locals to assess if it aligns with their ideal outdoor escape.
Eggleston Springs Campground is nestled at 346 Cliffview St, Pembroke, VA 24136, USA. This address places it within Giles County, a beautiful region of Virginia renowned for its mountainous terrain, stunning river views, and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. Pembroke itself is a small community situated in the picturesque New River Valley, making the campground's setting inherently scenic.
The location offers excellent accessibility for residents across Southwest Virginia and beyond. From Blacksburg, a major population center and home to Virginia Tech, the drive to Pembroke is relatively short and scenic, typically less than 30 minutes, making it a convenient escape for college students and local families alike. Similarly, from Roanoke, the journey would be a manageable drive, often less than an hour, through charming Virginia landscapes. The campground's position provides good road access for vehicles, though the immediate area likely features smaller, local roads.
A defining characteristic of its location, as highlighted in reviews, is its proximity to a railway. For some, this might be a unique and enjoyable aspect, particularly for "train fanatics," while others might prefer a more silent environment. The "great view of the river" suggests that the campground is situated near the New River, offering potential for water-based activities such as fishing or kayaking, which are popular in this part of Virginia. This blend of scenic beauty, a unique ambient element, and reasonable proximity to larger towns makes Eggleston Springs Campground a distinctive option for Virginia campers.
Eggleston Springs Campground aims to provide essential services for campers, though recent conditions have impacted the availability and quality of some amenities. Based on the provided information, here's an overview of the services, noting any known conditions:

Eggleston Springs Campground, despite past challenges, presents several unique features and highlights that could appeal to a specific segment of North Carolina campers seeking a memorable experience.
Prospective visitors should be aware that, due to past natural events, the current condition of facilities and sites might vary, emphasizing the importance of direct inquiry. Based on the available information and recent customer reviews, specific "promotions" or "special offers" for Eggleston Springs Campground are not publicly detailed. Furthermore, the challenges faced by the campground due to past flooding suggest that their current focus may be on recovery and re-establishing full operations rather than offering special deals.

The most important "offer" currently is the opportunity to potentially experience a unique, nature-focused campground that has faced adversity. Its suitability hinges on a camper's preferences and understanding of its current circumstances. The "great view of the river" also positions it as an excellent choice for those who love scenic beauty, potentially offering access to popular New River activities like fishing or kayaking, which are beloved by many Virginians.
Moreover, the presence of a "nicest human" caretaker suggests a personal and welcoming atmosphere, which can significantly enhance the camping experience, particularly for those who appreciate genuine hospitality. However, it is paramount for any local considering a visit to exercise due diligence by calling ahead to ascertain the current condition of all facilities and services. For the adventurous and understanding Virginia camper, Eggleston Springs offers a memorable, if unconventional, outdoor escape in the beautiful New River Valley.

We were lied to and ignored. Conditions were very poor at the beginning of May. That can certainly be expected with the flooding in the area, though that was not known to us until arrival. It wiped out their entire campground, leveled their bathhouse, and even moved their office building several feet. Many of their sites were out of commission. This left very poor conditions, and their recovery planned involved the use of a few port-a-shower/toilets. The water barely trickled and was only cold. We could not stay there. The caretaker of the campground appeared understanding and said that he would have my money refunded for the week. That STILL has NOT happened! They don't respond to phone calls, voice mails, or emails. Definitely beware of businesses like this!!!! I am sorry to have to give them 1-Star.
Jun 12, 2025 · Benjamin HuberFun little campground!!!! Located in a beautiful area with great view of the river. Dave was the nicest human I’ve probably ever met. If you hate trains don’t stay here but as a big train fanatic I quite enjoyed it.

Jun 12, 2023 · Erik “Popeye” WagnerAn excellent place hidden away on the New River to Escape to! Fishing, Kayaking, Boating, Tubing, Swimming and Live Music from MANY Great local musicians, many times throughout the summer! E.S.C. to the NEW RIVER!!!
May 03, 2025 · Benjamin BallardWe had a nice stay here, right on the river. The man who runs it was very kind and helpful. The site was flat and had electric hookup which was nice. The view of the river and access to it were great! Our daughter loved being able to walk right down to the bank and play while we watched sitting by the fire. The bathrooms were pretty clean and decently stocked. There was a sink for washing dishes which was a nice surprise—though other campers seemed to have clogged it while we were there. They had live music and a shaved ice truck for Father’s Day—a really nice little event to top off a great weekend. A few things to note: There were several ant hills on our site—they didn’t bother us during our stay but it would give once of mind for those to be taken care of. No picnic table at our site and also the fire ring is stone with no grate for cooking. Also plan to get firewood on your way in. He sells it onsite but it was $14 + tax for about 20 pieces of wood. Additionally It seems like no one follows the rules to leash your dog. We had to pick up and carry our small leashed dog on any walk we took because of other people not following the rules. We also felt like we were babysitting other dogs telling them that their dog was swimming down the river. That’s obviously just the luck of who you end up camping beside, but the sites are close together, so you will definitely get to know your neighbors! The train is also very loud and does run several times a night. None of this would keep us from staying here again, but knowing it ahead will help us be more prepared next time! Also—only a 20 minute drive to cascade falls trail—highly recommend hiking it while you are in the area!
