Introduction / Overview
For Massachusetts families, travelers, and outdoor enthusiasts, finding a reliable, high-value campground that blends serene natural beauty with essential amenities can be a challenge. Fernwood Forest Campground, tucked away in the beautiful Berkshires town of Hinsdale, MA, is repeatedly recognized by local campers as a hidden gem that successfully meets this need. This family-owned and operated campground spans 115 acres of natural woodlands, offering a quiet, private escape from the hustle of both Greater Boston and the more congested parts of the Commonwealth.
Fernwood Forest is known for providing a quintessential, classic camping experience. It caters to a wide audience, offering secluded spots for tent campers, spacious wooded sites for RVs and pop-ups, and even on-site camper rentals for those without their own equipment. The consistent feedback from customers emphasizes two key factors: "incredible value" and exceptional hospitality from the hosts. Visitors feel a genuine, friendly connection, often remarking that they are greeted like long-time friends, making it an ideal choice for both seasoned Massachusetts campers and those new to the great outdoors. It is a place where you can relax by a fire under the clear Berkshire sky without sacrificing cleanliness or convenience.

Stay here! The campground is very nice and an incredible value!! It was nice to support a family business and the value cannot be beat. There are so many features. State parks charge more for less. - Quiet setting - Wooded sites - All sites have water and some have water and electric - Clean bathrooms and showers (only 2 of each but in 2 evenings, I never had an issue. I was gone during the day and not sure what it’s like in that timeframe. it’s not a large campground and there are multiple RVs and I suspect they use their own facilities.) - You will receive a welcome bag at check-in with a site map to help you get to your site, the rules and regs, a guide to The Berkshires, a large garbage bag, and a pen. - The On-site laundry is in a small cabin-like building. It is clean and has a table, two chairs, and many books - On-site propane station - Large playground, an entertainment pavilion, a rec room (I didn’t use them so not sure what’s included) I will definitely stay again if/when I’m the area.
Sep 16, 2024 · Carin SI’m supporting my son walk the Appalachian trail and when it’s time to look for a place to stay for one night, this place was my best choice because of its proximity to the trail. Since I didn’t make a reservation ahead of time, I was concerned that they won’t be able to accommodate me. Boy was I surprised! Not only that they were able to have a spot for my 28-ft RV but their hospitality surpassed my expectations. I was greeted with a friendly face of the host who happened to own this place. I felt like I have known them for years. Overall, our stay was uneventful and quiet. Whether you stay here for one day or for one week, this place is ideal especially for family with children. Unfortunately, I was just passing through. So I didn’t really get a chance to enjoy fully the natural beauty of Fernwood Forest Campground. Strongly recommended!
Jun 26, 2024 · ANJE DEOCAMPOI stayed here two nights Saturday and Sunday in tent camping. Stayed at 39 and although a very small site, it worked good for me in a single tent. Had all paperwork ready to go at office for me to just pick up when I arrived. Bathrooms were so nice and I loved having a nice shower. Probably one of the better camp bathrooms I have seen. Also had a nice playground and things to do for kids. Really cute. I would recommend people stay here if going to Mt Greylock area, Wahconah falls, etc
Jul 30, 2024 · Kaelynn MaatzThis campground has a lot of amenities for what you pay. You can get a site with just water, or electric and water. Can do RV or tent. Warm showers and playground for kids with communal areas. Quiet and dark both nights and the staff is very friendly, the campground is in the family. Will definitely stay here again!
Sep 15, 2024 · Jacob DunnohewWe stayed here for 5 nights while my husband was taking a course nearby. We stayed in the onsite camper rental with our toddlers. It was such a nice quiet campground, the owners were wonderful, the camper was perfect, and everything was so well cared for. My kids loved the playground and rec hall. The main campground bathrooms were extremely clean. The rental camper was so convenient for us as we traveled 13 hours from home with really young kids. I was so grateful to find a place we could roam around during the day while my husband had the vehicle. Also the laundry facilities worked great and was a lifesaver for us. Beautiful place!
