Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds About

Introduction / Overview

For many Georgians, the allure of mountain living, coupled with the desire for affordability and a sense of community, often leads to exploring various housing options. Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds in Hiawassee, Georgia, presents itself as one such possibility. Located in the picturesque North Georgia mountains, this establishment appears to cater primarily to long-term residents and those seeking a quieter, more permanent living arrangement rather than a traditional short-term recreational RV resort. This article aims to provide a clear and factual overview of Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds, drawing insights from available public data and customer feedback. It's crucial for prospective residents to understand the nature of this unique location to determine if it aligns with their housing needs and expectations in the beautiful Hiawassee area.

Location and Accessibility

Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds is situated at 2500 Hickory Nut Cove Rd, Hiawassee, GA 30546, USA. This address places it in the stunning mountain region of Northeast Georgia, known for its scenic beauty, lakes, and national forests. While it boasts a secluded and quiet atmosphere, as noted by residents, its accessibility to the charming town of Hiawassee is a significant advantage.

The property is described as being "only 10 minutes from Hiawassee," which means residents can quickly access local amenities, including grocery stores, dining options, healthcare facilities, and recreational opportunities on Lake Chatuge. The location "backs up to the national forest," offering direct access to nature and a sense of being immersed in the wilderness, yet without being entirely isolated. However, it's important to note that the "Hickory Nut Cove Rd" address suggests a potentially winding or unpaved road leading to the property, typical for mountain locations. While the specific condition of the access road is not detailed, visitors should be prepared for a drive that may differ from typical highway access. For those seeking a balance between natural serenity and proximity to town, this location could be appealing.

Services Offered

Based on the provided reviews, Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds appears to offer services primarily tailored to long-term residents, providing a place for mobile homes and potentially long-term RV stays:

  • Long-Term Lot Rentals: The primary service is the provision of lots for mobile homes or RVs intended for extended stays. The description "looks like mobile homes that have structures built around them" suggests a more permanent residential setup rather than temporary camping spots.
  • Access to Utilities: While not explicitly stated, properties of this nature typically provide access to essential utilities such as electricity, water, and sewer connections for the mobile homes or RVs on site. Prospective residents should inquire directly about the specifics of these hookups and their condition.
  • Peaceful Environment: A key aspect highlighted by a satisfied resident is the "very peaceful" atmosphere, indicating that the park provides a quiet setting for its inhabitants.
  • Community Aspect: The mention of "great neighbors" suggests that the park fosters a sense of community among its long-term residents, contributing to a pleasant living experience.

It's important to differentiate these services from those of a typical recreational RV resort, which would offer short-term rentals and amenities like recreation halls, pools, or specific visitor activities.

Features / Highlights

Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds offers a unique set of features and highlights, though it's crucial to consider all perspectives provided by customer reviews:

  • Peaceful and Secluded Atmosphere: A significant positive highlight is the campground's tranquil environment. Residents appreciate that it is "very peaceful" and "secluded and quiet," making it an ideal spot for those seeking an escape from urban noise and a calm place to live.
  • Backs Up to National Forest: Direct access to the national forest is a major draw for nature lovers, offering potential for exploring, hiking (where permitted), and enjoying the natural surroundings right from your backyard.
  • Proximity to Hiawassee: Despite its secluded feel, the campground is "only 10 minutes from Hiawassee." This convenient distance allows residents to easily access town amenities, balancing rustic living with practicality.
  • Community of "Great Neighbors": For those looking for a sense of belonging, the presence of "great neighbors" contributes to a positive living experience, fostering a friendly environment.
  • On-Site Pond: The opportunity to "sit out by the pond" adds a serene natural feature to the property, providing a pleasant spot for relaxation.

However, it's equally important to address the concerns raised by other potential visitors:

  • Appearance and Maintenance: A significant point of contention is the aesthetic and perceived maintenance level. Descriptions like "very run down looking place" and the observation that it "looks like mobile homes that have structures built around them" rather than a traditional RV resort suggest a rustic, potentially unkempt, appearance that might not appeal to all.
  • Misleading for Short-Term RVers: The review highlights a crucial point: "this is not for mobile RVs even though sign states RV resort. It looks like mobile homes that have structures built around them." This indicates a potential mismatch between advertised type ("RV resort") and actual primary use (long-term mobile home/permanent RV sites), which could be misleading for travelers seeking temporary RV spots.

Promotions or Special Offers

Given that Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds appears to function primarily as a long-term residential mobile home/RV park rather than a recreational campground, it is unlikely to offer typical short-term camping promotions or seasonal discounts. Its affordability for long-term living is likely its main "offer."

For prospective long-term residents, the best approach would be to:

  • Contact Directly: Inquire about current lot rental rates, availability for mobile homes or long-term RV placements, and any specific lease terms.
  • Discuss Utilities: Clarify what utilities are included in the rent and what might be an additional cost.
  • Visit in Person: Due to the contrasting reviews regarding appearance, a personal visit is highly recommended to assess if the environment meets individual expectations for a long-term home base.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Georgians, particularly those looking for a long-term, affordable, and quiet residential solution in the North Georgia mountains, Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds in Hiawassee presents a unique proposition. Its primary suitability lies in its appeal as a potentially permanent home base for mobile homes or extended RV stays, rather than a transient recreational campground.

The "very peaceful and great neighbors" aspect, combined with its "secluded and quiet" setting, makes it an attractive option for those seeking a tranquil lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle. The added benefit of backing up directly to the national forest offers unparalleled access to nature for residents who enjoy outdoor activities like walking, observing wildlife, or simply appreciating the serene mountain environment. Moreover, being "only 10 minutes from Hiawassee" provides a practical balance, ensuring that essential town amenities are always within easy reach.

However, it is vital for local Georgians to approach Hickorynut Cove Campgrounds with clear expectations. While it excels as a peaceful, long-term residential community with friendly neighbors and natural beauty, those accustomed to a typical "RV resort" with manicured grounds and extensive recreational facilities for short stays might find its appearance "run down looking" and "misleading." Therefore, its suitability is highly dependent on an individual's specific needs: it is well-suited for locals desiring a quiet, affordable, and permanent mountain retreat, potentially for mobile home living or as a long-term RV base, where the beauty of the surroundings and the sense of community outweigh expectations of a pristine, resort-style campground. A personal visit is strongly recommended to ensure it aligns with your vision of mountain living in Georgia.

We drove through but this is not for mobile RVs even though sign states RV resort. It looks like mobile homes that have structures built around them. We were looking for a place for our RV for a home base until we buy land. Very run down looking place. Very misleading.
