Our aim is to help you determine if Hidden Ponds RV Park is the right fit for your RV adventure or temporary lodging needs in the Sulphur area, ensuring your stay aligns with your expectations for comfort and service in Louisiana.

Location and Accessibility

Hidden Ponds RV Park is strategically located at 1201 Ravia Rd, Sulphur, LA 70665, USA. This address places it in Sulphur, a prominent city within Calcasieu Parish, known for its industrial development and proximity to Lake Charles. The park’s location is particularly noteworthy for its accessibility, as it is situated just 1 1/4 miles south of I-10 (via Exit 21 / DeQuincy exit) and then 1/4 mile east on Ravia Road, making it very convenient for travelers on the interstate.

A significant selling point, as highlighted by a customer review, is its "very close to the refineries." This makes Hidden Ponds RV Park a practical choice for industrial workers or contractors seeking temporary housing in the area, offering a minimal commute to major industrial sites such as Westlake Chemical, Citgo, Firestone, Axiall Corp, Sasol, Phillips 66, and Indorama, all located within a few miles.

Beyond industrial access, the park's location provides reasonable accessibility to the broader amenities of Sulphur and nearby Lake Charles. Residents can reach local grocery stores, gas stations, and other essential services with ease. Lafayette is approximately 82 miles away, and Houston, TX, is about 160 miles, indicating its position as a convenient stopover for travelers navigating between these major cities.

The casinos of Southwest Louisiana (including Golden Nugget and L'Auberge Casino Resort) are also within a reasonable distance, providing entertainment options. The ease of access from I-10 and its proximity to key employment centers and recreational sites make Hidden Ponds RV Park a conveniently located option for a variety of visitors to the Sulphur area.

Services Offered

Hidden Ponds RV Park offers a range of services designed to accommodate both RVers and those seeking cabin rentals. Based on publicly available information, the following services are provided:

  • Full RV Hookups: The park features 230 full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, providing water, electricity, and sewer connections for RVs. Many sites are "big rig friendly" with "70 foot concrete pull-throughs" for easy access.
  • Cabin Rentals: "State of the art cabins" are available for rent, described as "furnished cabins" with "month-to-month" options and "weekly easy payment plan." These cabins are promoted as "cozy cabins" with a living space, bed, and bathroom.
  • Laundry Facilities: A "Clean Laundry Facility" is available on-site. Some sources also mention "Wash and Fold Laundry Service (additional fee)."
  • Restroom and Shower Facilities: The park provides "Restrooms" and "Showers," including "handicapped facilities."
  • Wi-Fi Internet: Wi-Fi internet is available, with some sources stating it's "available at ALL sites."
  • Cable TV: Cable TV service is offered to guests.
  • Dump Station: A dump station is available for RV waste disposal.
  • LP-Gas: LP-gas is available on-site for purchase.
  • Fishing Ponds: The park boasts "7 acres of stocked fishing ponds" for year-round fishing, surrounded by "nature trails." Tackle is also available.
  • Recreation Areas: There is a "Picnic Area" and a "Recreation hall." Some sources mention "2 Large Clubhouses overlooking our beautiful pond."
  • Pet Friendly: Pets are welcome, though some restrictions/fees may apply (it's advisable to call for details).
  • Group Accommodations: The park is noted as "Groups Welcome."

It is important to note that while these services are advertised, customer reviews related to cabin rentals specifically highlight significant issues with the functionality of amenities such as air conditioning, pest control (wasps and ants), and general cabin maintenance (rotten spots in floors, shower water issues). These concerns suggest that the actual condition and reliability of some services, particularly within cabins, may vary from the advertised standard.

Features / Highlights

Hidden Ponds RV Park, beyond its basic services, offers several features and highlights that are intended to enhance the guest experience. However, it's crucial to consider these in light of customer feedback.

  • Extensive Fishing Ponds: A prominent feature is the "7 acres of stocked fishing ponds" with "nature trails." This provides a recreational opportunity directly on-site for fishing enthusiasts, a unique draw for many.
  • Variety of Accommodation Options: The park offers both RV sites and furnished cabin rentals, catering to different traveler preferences, from those with their own rigs to individuals or families needing a ready-made temporary home. This flexibility can be a significant advantage.
  • Proximity to Industrial Refineries: As explicitly noted in a review, its location "very close to the refineries" is a "selling point" for those working in the industrial sector of Sulphur and Lake Charles, providing a convenient commute.
  • Full Hookup Concrete Sites: The RV sites are described as "all concrete sites" with "full hookups" (30/50 amp), including "70 foot concrete pull-throughs," which are convenient for larger rigs and offer a stable, clean parking surface.
  • On-Site Amenities: The presence of a laundry facility, restrooms, showers, and Wi-Fi internet access provides essential conveniences for both short-term and extended stays.

It is critical to address the significant concerns highlighted in customer reviews, particularly regarding the cabin rentals. Reported issues include:

  • Ineffective Air Conditioning: Multiple reviews mention cabins being "very very hot" and "never cooled off under 85 degrees," with maintenance reportedly confirming units "would not cool that big of a cabin enough to occupy." This is a major concern, especially in Louisiana's climate.
  • Pest Infestations: Reports of "wasp flying around" and "ants in the floor crawling to the bed" indicate potential pest control issues within accommodations.
  • Maintenance Issues: Reviews mention "multiple rotten spots in the floors" and "something wrong with the shower water," suggesting a lack of upkeep in the cabins.
  • Customer Service/Refund Issues: Difficulties in obtaining refunds for unsatisfactory stays, with claims of "highway robbery and insanity" over charges and deposits, point to significant customer service challenges.

While the park advertises appealing features, prospective visitors, especially those considering cabin rentals, should exercise caution and thoroughly verify the condition of the specific unit and park policies prior to commitment.

Promotions or Special Offers

Specific promotions or special offers for Hidden Ponds RV Park are not explicitly detailed in the provided customer reviews. However, the park's own website and other listings indicate that they offer a variety of pricing structures that can be considered forms of special offers for different types of stays.

  • Weekly Rates: The park offers weekly rates for both RV sites and cabins, which are typically more cost-effective than daily rates for extended stays.
  • Monthly Rates: Monthly rates are available for RV sites and cabins ("month-to-month cabins"), providing significant savings for long-term residents, especially industrial workers in the area.
  • Rates Include Utilities and Amenities: Their website mentions that "Rates include all utilities and amenities," which can be seen as a promotional aspect, simplifying budgeting for guests by bundling essential services into the rental fee.

While there are no explicit "discount" promotions mentioned, the tiered pricing for daily, weekly, and monthly stays serves as an inherent value proposition for different lengths of visits. Given the concerns raised in customer reviews, it is highly advisable for interested individuals to contact Hidden Ponds RV Park directly to inquire about the most current rates, availability, and to clarify any policies, particularly those related to refunds or specific cabin conditions. This direct communication would be essential for managing expectations and understanding the full terms of a stay.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Louisiana residents, particularly those in the Southwest region or those frequently traveling through, Hidden Ponds RV Park in Sulphur presents a unique set of considerations for suitability. While it offers certain advantages, it's crucial for locals to weigh these against the significant concerns highlighted in customer feedback.

On the positive side, Hidden Ponds RV Park's most compelling feature for locals, especially those connected to the industrial sector, is its highly strategic location. Its close proximity to the refineries in Sulphur and Lake Charles makes it an incredibly convenient option for temporary lodging for industrial workers, contractors, or anyone needing easy access to these facilities. This geographical advantage significantly reduces commute times, which is a major benefit for those on long work assignments. The variety of full-hookup RV sites and cabins further caters to different needs, offering flexibility in accommodation types for short-term stays or longer assignments. The presence of amenities like laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and fishing ponds also adds a layer of convenience and leisure for residents.

However, for locals, it is paramount to acknowledge and thoroughly investigate the serious issues raised in recent customer reviews. Reports of non-functional air conditioning, pest infestations (wasps, ants), and general disrepair within cabins (rotten floors, shower problems) are significant concerns, especially given Louisiana's hot and humid climate. Furthermore, complaints about billing discrepancies and difficulties in obtaining refunds ("highway robbery and insanity") point to potential issues with customer service and transparent financial practices. These factors are critical for any Louisiana resident who values comfort, basic living standards, and fair treatment.

Therefore, while Hidden Ponds RV Park might be suitable for locals primarily because of its convenient industrial-area location and the range of lodging options it theoretically offers, prospective guests are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution. Before committing to a stay, especially in a cabin, locals should:

  • Visit in Person: If possible, conduct an on-site visit to inspect the specific RV site or cabin they intend to rent.
  • Confirm Amenities Functionality: Explicitly confirm that all advertised amenities, particularly air conditioning and pest control, are fully functional and in good repair.
  • Clarify All Costs and Refund Policies: Obtain a detailed breakdown of all charges and a clear, written understanding of the refund policy before making any payments.
  • Read Recent Reviews Actively: Continue to seek out the most current reviews to get the freshest perspective on the park's conditions and management responsiveness.

In conclusion, Hidden Ponds RV Park has the potential to serve a local need for convenient industrial lodging and recreational RVing due to its location and range of services. However, it is suitable for locals only if they are prepared to diligently verify the current state of the facilities and confirm all terms and conditions to mitigate the risks associated with the significant negative experiences reported by past guests.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!! As for the lactation, it’s very close to the refineries and that was a selling point for us. Now for the actual stay. The cabin never cooled off under 85 degrees, was very very hot. We bought fans, that didn’t help. Was still extremely hot even at 10pm in the night so We and our 4 kids slept in the car because it was still way to hot. Spoke to the front office and the maintenance man, who actually confirmed that it was blazing in our cabin and actually said that the units would not cool that big of a cabin enough to occupy. We were told by the front desk quote “well you were the ones that wanted to rent the cabin” BUT we thought of course it would cool off by that night but never did. We found a different place to stay and asked to just pay for the night and to please get a refund for the remaining amount. All to find out that we actually spent $791.20 on this said cabin instead of $600!!!!! So that’s an $100 deposit plus an extra $91 added. And that a email had to sent out before we could receive a refund and it would take days if we ever even got the money back!!!! Are you kidding me????? Not to even mention that there were multiple rotten spots in the floors and something wrong with the shower water. We work hard for our money and are honest people this is highway robbery and insanity. Now we out that money plus extra for the new rental we had to find to be able to stay for work.

DO NOT STAY HERE! They busted my window out of my camper mowing the grass and denied it and wouldn’t even try help pay for any of it just came up with every excuse in the world and was very unprofessional. After that they didn’t mow around my camper anymore and just let the grass grow up. Finally got my window replaced and left halfway through the month and they wouldn’t refund me any of my money after I paid full month and they didn’t help pay for any of the window they busted out of my camper.
