For residents of Pennsylvania, the desire to truly unplug often leads them off the beaten path—away from the crowds and the hum of RV generators. Hike-In Campground, situated on the picturesque north shore of Cowanesque Lake in Lawrenceville, PA, is the perfect answer to this call for a secluded, back-to-nature experience. Part of the broader recreation area managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, this destination offers a unique, tent-only camping experience that prioritizes tranquility, scenic beauty, and direct access to one of Tioga County’s premier lakes.
The name says it all: this campground is designed for those willing to trek a short distance to reach their site, ensuring a level of privacy and immersion in the environment that standard drive-up campgrounds simply cannot match. It caters specifically to the local outdoors enthusiast who seeks a rustic retreat without sacrificing the option of modern comforts. With only 16 primitive, hike-in sites available, the campground maintains a quiet, low-density environment, making it an excellent choice for fishing, paddling, and enjoying the forested ridges of the Endless Mountains region.
While the sites themselves are beautifully secluded and non-electric, the thoughtful organization of the facility provides a crucial convenience: all registered guests at the Hike-In Campground receive complimentary access to the full, modern amenities located just a short distance away at the sister facility, Tompkins Campground. This thoughtful arrangement means you get the best of both worlds—a secluded, private lakeside base camp with easy access to hot showers and flush toilets when you need them. It is truly an ideal setup for Pennsylvania campers looking for a genuine wilderness feel with a safety net of modern convenience.

Perfect spot to camp, fish, enjoy the lake
Jun 08, 2019 · Richard LearnHike-in sites are very nice and most are secluded, but the terrain is a bit hilly so come prepared. Some sites have direct water access and can handle boat landings. Campground features pit toilets for the hike-in sites, and showers/full bathrooms at the nearby Tompkins campground, which you can access for free with your hike-in site pass. Ranger station conveniently stocks bags of ice and firewood on-site, available 24/7. Great experience overall.
