Inks Lake Sponsored Youth Camp Site About
For youth organizations across Texas, finding the perfect camping spot that balances rugged outdoor adventure with essential facilities is crucial. The Texas Hill Country, with its stunning landscapes and rich natural resources, offers numerous opportunities, and among them, the Inks Lake Sponsored Youth Camp Site stands out as an exceptional choice. This dedicated group campsite, nestled within the broader Inks Lake State Park area, is specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of large youth groups, providing a safe, spacious, and memorable outdoor experience.
This campsite is renowned for its ability to accommodate big groups, offering ample space for tents, a substantial fire ring, and convenient facilities that simplify group logistics. It provides a more private and secluded experience than typical individual campsites, making it ideal for fostering camaraderie and focused activities for organizations like Boy Scout troops, church youth groups, and other sponsored youth programs. With its direct access to trails that connect to the main Inks Lake State Park, it offers the best of both worlds: a private retreat with easy reach to the wider park's attractions.
Location and Accessibility
The Inks Lake Sponsored Youth Camp Site is located near Burnet, TX 78611, USA, within the expansive and beautiful Inks Lake State Park. While the official park address is 3630 Park Road 4 West, Burnet, TX, the youth camp site is specifically located on the south end of the primitive area, approximately 2.5 miles down Park Road 4 (toward Longhorn Caverns), with the entrance on CR 116 (Hoover Valley Rd), about 1.2 miles in. This slightly secluded positioning is a deliberate feature, enhancing the private feel for youth groups.
The site's accessibility is a key advantage. It is conveniently situated just about a five-minute drive from the popular Longhorn Caverns State Park, making it an excellent base for groups planning to explore this fascinating natural wonder. Burnet, the nearest town, offers access to essential supplies, groceries, and other services for groups preparing for their camping trip. Larger cities like Austin are roughly an hour and a half away, providing reasonable travel times for groups coming from various parts of Central Texas.
Within Inks Lake State Park itself, the youth campsite offers good access to local trails. These trails connect the youth campsite to the main areas of the park, allowing groups to hike in and explore the beauty of Inks Lake. While the campsite itself is not directly on the water, the trail access provides a good opportunity for a scenic hike (approximately 1.5 to 2 miles) to reach the main lake areas and participate in water activities. The location ensures a balance of seclusion for focused group activities and proximity to regional attractions.

Features / Highlights
The Inks Lake Sponsored Youth Camp Site stands out with several key features and highlights that make it an ideal choice for youth organizations seeking an impactful outdoor experience in Texas.
- Designed for Large Youth Groups: This is arguably its biggest highlight. The site is specifically tailored for Boy Scout troops, church youth groups, and similar sponsored youth organizations, offering the space and setup needed for substantial numbers of campers. It is not available for family reunions or adult-only groups, ensuring its focus remains on youth development.

- Proximity to Longhorn Caverns State Park: Being only about a five-minute drive from Longhorn Caverns State Park is a major advantage. This allows youth groups to easily incorporate a visit to this unique natural attraction into their camping itinerary.
- Spacious Camping Areas: The site boasts "huge" and "plenty of flat places to camp," accommodating numerous tents and allowing for various group activities within the campsite itself.
- Large Fire Ring and Grills: The presence of a "huge fire ring" and outdoor grills makes communal cooking and evening campfires easy and enjoyable, central to the camping experience.
- Trail Connectivity to Inks Lake State Park: While the youth site isn't directly on the water, "good access to local trails from the campsite" connects it to the main Inks Lake area. This enables groups to hike to the lake for swimming, fishing, and other water activities, integrating the wider park's offerings.
- Away from Crowds: As noted by reviewers, it's a "good spot if you want to be away from all the crowds," providing a more intimate and less bustling camping experience compared to more populated areas of state parks.
- Natural Surroundings with Some Shade: The campsite is set amidst natural Texas Hill Country terrain, offering "minimum sunshade" in some areas but still providing a connection to the outdoors. Guests are advised to bring sun protection.
Promotions or Special Offers
As a state park-managed youth group campsite, the Inks Lake Sponsored Youth Camp Site primarily operates on a fixed fee structure rather than traditional promotional offers. However, its inherent value for youth organizations can be considered a "special offer" in itself, given its dedicated facilities and focused purpose.
- Group Rate Pricing: The site is available at a specific group rate, which is typically more cost-effective for large numbers of participants than booking multiple individual campsites. It is specifically designed to handle and price for larger gatherings of youth.
- Exclusive Use: The site is reserved solely for sponsored youth groups, ensuring that your organization has a dedicated and private space without interference from other types of campers. This exclusivity is a significant benefit for managing large groups effectively.
- Texas State Park Pass Benefits: While specific to individual park entry, youth group participants should be aware that owning a Texas State Park Pass can provide free entry to more than 80 state parks for the pass holder and their guests for one year. This can be beneficial for chaperones or leaders who frequently visit Texas State Parks. (Note: A daily entrance fee of $7 per person 13 and older generally applies in addition to any facility fees, unless otherwise stated or covered by a pass.)
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on reservation policies, fees, and any specific requirements for sponsored youth groups, it is essential to contact Inks Lake State Park directly. Reservations for group camps can typically be made further in advance (e.g., up to 12 months) compared to individual campsites.

Customer Reviews
Great place to camp. Our Boy Scout troop spent the weekend here so that we could go to Longhorn Caverns State Park. It’s only about a five minute drive between the two. The facilities are great - huge, fire, ring, vault, toilet, plenty of parking, plenty of flat places to camp. Good access to local trails from the campsite, which connect the youth campsite to the main area. Only negative is that there is a road very close by the campsite, and provides some noise. Thankfully, not very busy, and more quiet at night time.
This is a good spot if you want to be away from all the crowds. It's private and perfect for large youth groups. You can hike in 1.5 miles to 2 miles in to be inside of Inks Lake. We hiked, and it was good. Make sure to take plenty of water, hat, and sunblock since there is minimum sunshade.
Parking is limited and very far from the actual park. Sad that large groups have such a poor option to camp at this state park. The park itself is great.
The camping area could be better maintained. Firepit is great.
