J & W Campground About
For those in Louisiana considering a camping spot or a longer-term RV stay, understanding a campground's true nature is essential. J & W Campground, located in Livingston, LA, has been a site for both recreational activities and extended residencies over the years. This overview aims to provide factual insights into the campground, drawing directly from recent customer experiences, allowing prospective visitors to make informed decisions.
While initially appearing as a peaceful place with "down to earth people" and activities like "fishing, boating, camping," recent feedback from residents highlights significant challenges and a decline in certain aspects of the campground's operation and management. It's important to approach J & W Campground with a full understanding of these reported issues, from facilities that may not function as expected to concerns regarding management interactions and maintenance. Our goal is to present a comprehensive and honest picture based on the available public data.
J & W Campground is situated at 24691 Setton Rd, Livingston, LA 70754, USA. This location places the campground within Livingston Parish, an area known for its natural beauty, including access to waterways like the Tickfaw River. Livingston Parish offers a blend of rural charm with growing communities, making it an attractive area for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a quieter lifestyle while still being within reach of larger towns.
Historically, the campground may have offered "access to the Tickfaw River," a significant draw for fishing and boating enthusiasts. However, recent rumors suggest this access has been "closed off" due to past incidents and legal concerns. This change would significantly impact activities related to river access, so potential visitors should verify current conditions.
Livingston itself provides basic amenities such as local stores and dining options. For more extensive shopping, dining, and entertainment, residents typically travel to larger nearby towns like Denham Springs or Baton Rouge. These cities offer a wider array of services, including major retail outlets, a broader selection of restaurants, and various cultural and recreational activities. Livingston Parish is also home to attractions like Tickfaw State Park, known for its boardwalks through different ecosystems, and various hunting and fishing opportunities within its vast waterways. While J & W Campground's location puts you in a naturally appealing area of Louisiana, the internal conditions of the campground, as reported, are a key consideration when evaluating its suitability.
Based on the provided resident reviews, the services at J & W Campground appear to be inconsistent or facing challenges. It is important to note that these are reported deficiencies rather than the ideal services one would expect from a fully functional campground.
- Camping & Boating Access: The campground has traditionally offered spaces for camping and previously, access for boating. However, access to the Tickfaw River is reportedly "closed off," which would eliminate boating from the available activities.
- Fishing: Fishing is mentioned as an activity, suggesting opportunities within or near the campground, though specific details are lacking and potential changes to river access may impact this.
- Laundry Facilities (Reportedly Malfunctioning): A significant concern raised by a reviewer is that the "washers and dryers don't work properly and pretty much wasted my money trying to use them." This indicates a failure in providing reliable laundry services.
- On-Site Store (Reportedly Closed): A past amenity, a "store that sold food, drinks and misc items," is now "closed down," reducing convenience for residents.
- Management Interaction (Reportedly Negative): While initial impressions might be of "down to earth people," a reviewer detailed a highly negative interaction where the "son of the man was very rude and yelled and cursed" when a receipt was requested, indicating poor customer service in some instances.
- Pet Policy: "Pitbulls are not allowed," indicating a specific breed restriction, though other pets may be permitted.
- Affordability (Historically, but with Recent Increases): While the park was historically chosen for its "affordability," recent rent increases have made it "drastically" more expensive, with some "poor shape" camper spots still commanding high prices ($650 to $850).
The reviews suggest a decline in amenities and service quality, particularly concerning laundry facilities and management interactions, as well as significant changes in pricing and river access.
Based on the provided customer reviews, the "features" and "highlights" of J & W Campground, particularly under current conditions, present a mixed picture with several significant concerns for prospective campers and residents. Here are the key points:
- Historical Affordability (Now Changed): The park was once known for its "affordability," which attracted long-term residents. However, rent has "went up drastically" to $650-$850, with even "poor shape" sites commanding the lower end of this range.
- Initially Peaceful Place: Early impressions and some general statements suggest it "seems like a peaceful place" with "down to earth people."
- Access to Activities (Potentially Limited): Activities like "fishing, boating, camping" are mentioned, but concerns about Tickfaw River access being "closed off" significantly limit boating opportunities. Fishing might still be possible depending on specific access points.
- Laid-Back Landlord (Potentially Inconsistent): The landlord is described as "fairly laid back," which some might see as a positive, implying less strict oversight. However, this contrasts sharply with reports of rude and abusive behavior from the "son of the man" regarding a simple request for a receipt.
- Aging Infrastructure: The "grounds were decent" years ago, but some of the available camper spots are now in "poor shape," indicating a lack of upkeep for some areas.
- Non-Functional Amenities: The "washers and dryers don't work properly" is a major functional drawback, leading to wasted money for users.
- Closed Store: The on-site store, which once provided convenience, is "closed down now."
- Pitbull Restriction: A specific "no Pitbulls" policy is in place.
- Noise Concerns: While initially peaceful, unresolved issues and potentially inconsistent management could lead to varied noise levels.
These reported features indicate a campground that has experienced a decline in maintenance, amenities, and potentially in customer service, despite its historical appeal for affordability and a relaxed atmosphere.
Based on the provided customer reviews, there is no public information or indication of any current promotions or special offers being extended by J & W Campground. The feedback primarily focuses on challenges related to the park's condition, services, and management interactions, rather than on attracting new residents with incentives.
In situations where a campground faces reported issues such as non-functional laundry facilities, potential river access closures, significant rent increases, and negative management interactions, it is less common for them to highlight promotions. Typically, campgrounds might offer:
- Weekly or monthly discounts for extended stays
- Seasonal rates
- Referral bonuses
- First-time visitor discounts
However, given the concerns raised by current and past residents, any prospective camper or long-term resident should prioritize verifying the current operational status of all facilities, confirming river access, and understanding all fees and policies directly with the management. While an inquiry about rates is always an option, the primary focus should be on assessing the actual living conditions and services.
For individuals who still wish to contact J & W Campground despite the concerns raised in recent reviews, the available contact information is as follows. It is strongly advised to use this information to directly inquire about the current conditions of the park, clarify any policies, and specifically ask about the functionality of amenities like the laundry facilities and the status of river access.
- Address: 24691 Setton Rd, Livingston, LA 70754, USA
- Phone: (225) 294-8961
- Mobile Phone: +1 225-294-8961
Given the reported issues regarding rude interactions and a lack of receipts, it is crucial to approach any communication with clarity and ensure all agreements or payments are documented. A direct conversation would be the only way to obtain up-to-date information regarding the park's current status and any potential changes or improvements.
For Louisiana locals considering J & W Campground in Livingston, it is vital to approach with caution and a clear understanding of the reported conditions. While the idea of a "peaceful place" with "fishing, boating, camping" is appealing, recent resident feedback paints a concerning picture that may make it unsuitable for many.
The significant increase in rent, from a place once chosen for its "affordability" to now costing $650-$850, means it may no longer be a budget-friendly option, especially when considering that even "poor shape" sites command the lower end of this new range. This drastically impacts its suitability for long-term stays where cost-effectiveness is often a primary factor.
Furthermore, the reported issues with basic amenities are a major drawback. "Washers and dryers don't work properly" leading to wasted money, and the on-site "store is closed down now," both diminish convenience significantly. The rumored "closed off" access to the Tickfaw River would negate a key recreational draw for many. Most critically, the direct feedback about "rude and cursed" management interactions, including a refusal to provide a receipt, indicates a concerning lack of professional customer service, which can severely impact the quality of life for residents. The specific "no Pitbulls" policy also limits options for some pet owners.
Given these accumulated concerns regarding declining amenities, questionable maintenance, significant cost increases, and particularly concerning management interactions, J & W Campground, under its currently reported conditions, does not appear to be a reliably suitable choice for Louisiana locals seeking a comfortable, well-managed, or truly peaceful camping or long-term living experience. Prospective visitors are strongly advised to investigate these issues in person and proceed with extreme caution.
Customer Reviews
Down to earth people with a endless activity, fishing boating camping and so on. Seems like a peaceful place. Love it.. After staying a couple of days . The son of the man was very rude and yelled and cursed when I asked for my receipt. Washers and dryers don't work properly and pretty much wasted my money trying to use them. After them taking my money and not giving my receipt when he took it I asked four days later and was cursed at. Not a good place to be after allp
I've lived here off and on throughout the years only bc of the affordability. When I first moved in years ago the grounds were decent. They had a store to that sold food, drinks and misc items. The store is closed down now. There once was access to the tickfaw River here however from rumors I've heard someone was hurt and they were sued for 300k so they closed it off. Pitbulls are not allowed! The landlord is fairly laid back I guess. They have however went up in rent drastically. It's now 650 to 850 to get a camper here the ones that are 650 are in poor shape!
Have been here over a year. I find it very peaceful and relaxing. My granddaughter comes to stay with me quite often. She loves it here.Everyone here has gone out of their way to welcome her.I would reccomend J&W Campground to everyone from toddlers to seniors to visit. A wonderful place to relax ,fish, take a stroll by the Tickfaw River or just get away from it all.
