Introduction / Overview
For New Hampshire locals in search of a peaceful, wooded escape that feels truly connected to nature, Jacobs Brook Campground in Orford is often referred to as a hidden gem in the scenic Upper Valley. Spanning 38 acres of pristine wilderness, this destination is built around the idea of "camping without the commercialism." The atmosphere is decidedly quiet and family-focused, deliberately avoiding the loud entertainment and structured activities common at larger resorts. Instead, Jacobs Brook offers a serene setting characterized by clean, well-maintained grounds, strictly enforced quiet hours, and a charming mountain brook running through the property. The campground is a perfect base for exploring the rich natural and historical areas of both New Hampshire and neighboring Vermont, thanks to its prime location near the Connecticut River. The sites are well-shaded, providing a sense of privacy, and cater to a range of campers, from those pitching a simple tent to those in large RVs requiring full hookups. Visitors consistently praise the beauty of the setting and the genuine effort by the management to maintain a relaxed, nature-centric environment, making it a beloved spot for Granite Staters returning year after year.
Location and Accessibility
Jacobs Brook Campground is conveniently situated in the historic town of Orford, NH, placing it right in the heart of the Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee region and the Upper Valley. The physical address is 46 High Bridge Rd, Orford, NH 03777, USA. Its location makes it an excellent jumping-off point for exploring some of the best attractions in both New Hampshire and Vermont. It is minutes from the Connecticut River and the Vermont towns of Fairlee and Norwich, and a short drive from Hanover, the home of Dartmouth College, Lebanon, NH, and the White Mountain National Forest. Accessibility is straightforward, especially for RVers. From I-91 in Vermont, Exit 15 provides direct access to the area, though a local heads-up is necessary: be mindful of bridge weight limits in the area, and always follow the most current directions provided by the campground to avoid potential detours. For New Hampshire locals traveling from the south, taking Exit 26 west off I-93 onto Route 25, followed by a left onto Route 25A and then a right onto Route 10 at Orford, provides a scenic route to the campground via Archertown and High Bridge Roads. This location strikes the perfect balance: it is sufficiently off the main path to feel secluded, yet close enough to essential services and iconic New Hampshire destinations.

Jacobs Brook Campground is particularly well-suited for New Hampshire residents as it provides an accessible, yet authentic, taste of the Granite State's natural wilderness without the long trek into the deep North Country. The campground’s core philosophy—a quiet, non-commercial, and family-friendly atmosphere—aligns perfectly with the values often sought by New Hampshire campers who appreciate peace and self-made adventure over structured entertainment. The availability of full-service RV sites alongside rustic tent sites means it can accommodate multi-generational family outings or group gatherings with ease. Gem of a campground. Quiet and peaceful with enough amenities to keep small kids happy (pool, stream, small playground, etc.). Well-maintained tent sites. Have loved coming here the past few years.
Jul 01, 2025 · Adam Sylvainis it true host dog isn't friendly and attacked other dogs a few times? traveling in NH with dogs and need to know. don't want to book somewhere and worry about getting attacked from host s dog
Jul 13, 2025 · Cincinnati JulzPhil and Vanessa are very friendly. They make sure all their campers are safe and happy. It's back to nature with tent sites. And very accommodating camper sites. Beautiful setting. And a pool to keep cool in. Although falling asleep to the sound of the babbling brook is heaven on earth.
Sep 01, 2024 · meschell pattonWe booked months before coming to this campground for the first time and what a beautiful campground it is. We hate camping in sites where you are packed on like sardines. You know what I mean there is no privacy but this place has beautiful spacious large sites. The owners Phil and Ness are the most gracious people I ever met and are so helpful. I would most definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. We will be coming here more often. Update: We actually ended up getting a seasonal the year and totally enjoyed the quietness of this camp and renewed our seasonal. We ended up bringing up my Dad and Uncle here for a visit (both are retired Vets) and they both loved it here and still continue to praise their stay. As for the negative comments? Abide by the rules like any other campground in the United States and you will never have a problem....that easy This is a nice and peaceful place to stay and we love it
Sep 13, 2024 · Craig SpencerWe had such a nice stay at Jacob's Brook Campground. The owners were extremely responsive when requesting reservations and asking questions. Firewood was delivered to our spot so we didn't have to carry it ourselves. The bathrooms were clean, had plenty of tp and hand soap. When I visit the area again I will definitely be staying here! Thanks for making our vacation so nice!
