Camping in West Virginia is a beloved tradition, offering diverse experiences from rugged backcountry excursions to comfortable RV park stays. For many West Virginians, finding a dependable and affordable campground is key to enjoying regular outdoor escapes without extensive planning or cost. This campground seems to cater to that need, focusing on essential amenities and a straightforward booking process, emphasizing a "simple no nonsense campground" experience. The appeal of such a place lies in its ability to offer a direct connection to nature without unnecessary complexities, allowing campers to focus on relaxation and recreation.
The allure of a campground often comes from its setting and the ease with which campers can enjoy their stay. A location that offers scenic beauty, while still being accessible, is highly valued. Lost River, West Virginia, is renowned for its picturesque environment, offering opportunities for hiking, fishing, and simply unwinding amidst nature. Lost River Campground positions itself to take advantage of this natural charm. For those traveling with RVs, having well-configured sites is crucial, and the mention of "back in sites" that can become "pull through" if no one is behind them suggests a degree of flexibility for different rig sizes.
However, it's also important for prospective campers to be fully informed about a campground's policies and typical conditions, especially when planning longer stays or traveling with pets. Different campgrounds have different operational approaches, and understanding these upfront can help manage expectations. While simplicity is a highlight, other aspects like winter operations, pet policies, and communication practices are equally important for a comfortable and stress-free stay. Our aim here is to provide a balanced overview of Lost River Campground, drawing directly from available public feedback to offer a realistic picture for those considering a visit.

For accessibility, being situated on Kimsey Run Road means a degree of remoteness that contributes to its tranquil atmosphere. However, it's important to note that access to amenities like grocery stores, gas stations, and other services typical of a town will require a short drive from the campground into the nearest communities. These might include Wardensville, Baker, or Moorefield, which offer more extensive services. While not directly on a major interstate, its location within West Virginia makes it accessible via state routes for those traveling from various parts of the state or neighboring regions. For campers arriving with RVs, the reviews suggest a need for preparedness, with recommendations to "bring extra sewer hoses and a 50amp to 30 amp adapter if you have 30 amp." This implies a mix of site hookup types, and being prepared ensures a smoother setup. Arrived in November. Campground seemed nice enough. Only downhill from there. Full time worker and we live in our camper and was very disappointed by the end. They didn’t plow at all on the grounds. So when it snowed heading out to work at 6 am was a challenge. We froze up (not their fault) had to use the bathhouse. Solid ice. Not once did I feel safe walking up the sidewalk to use the bathroom in colder weather. Definitely afraid of falling. Constant threat of my dogs being attacked by other campers dogs that were not leashed but why would they the farm dog roams in and out of campsites. My dogs were bitten twice during our stay. I extended month by month as I needed to for work. Cause the location was convenient. I had extended Feb, March and April when I went to extend for May I was informed they rented the site for the holiday weekend. Not a phone call, didn’t stop by nothing. But did say I could move to a non full hook up site for the weekend and then move back. Very unprofessional, not a good experience. I have never had so much anxiety living the way we love to live. So glad we found another place. I will say the owners are very nice and helpful when they are around. When the fires were burning they were readily available with I formation. But overall not a good experience. I just think the campground is a hobby and is treated as such.
May 28, 2024 · Jim CarpenterSimple no nonsense campground. Reasonable price. Bring cash. These are all technically back in sites, but if no one is behind you,. They becomes pull through. Also bring extra sewer hoses and a 50amp to 30 amp adapter if you have 30 amp.
Dec 02, 2016 · Alex SiuThe owners are wonderful people who go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The bathrooms are always clean and pet friendly for all breeds. I have to believe anyone not satisfied it was their own doing!
Aug 17, 2024 · Mark McAllisterThis camp ground is wonderful. The pool is so nice and clean. But more importantly the owners are beyond nice. We have never met more nice people in our lives. They are so understanding and giving. A bad storm/tornado basically touched down and we were without power for a while, and they lended us coolers and ice for our food. The other campers helped us with our awning so it wouldn't break during the storm. We appreciate them more then they know. Please stay here and support this wonderful family.
Jun 27, 2022 · Deb DriscollCouldn't ask for better people. Not to mention the surrounding area. My family enjoys a laid back friendly environment and this is 100% the spot. Wish we could stay longer, unfortunately work dictates where we live. The park is kept clean, however we don't use the restrooms so I can not review them, but they seem nice. The pool is closed for winter. The laundry room is small but I never seem to have too much of an issue. Overall great private place, and we will return when possible, if they will have us 😉.
