Introduction / Overview
When Kansas residents look for a convenient yet scenic getaway, particularly for an RV stopover or a weekend of simple relaxation,
Mill Creek Campground - Historic Paxico Kansas
often comes up as a popular, locally-owned option. Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Flint Hills region, just a short drive from Topeka, this campground provides a blend of essential modern amenities and rustic natural charm. It has been a fixture in the local camping community for over 40 years, giving it a history and familiarity that many Kansans appreciate. The campground’s name highlights its two main draws: its proximity to the
historic community of Paxico
, known for its antique shops and small-town feel, and its locationalong Mill Creek
, a tributary that offers opportunities for fishing and cooling off. The facility caters heavily to RV travelers with its spacious, level, and mostly pull-through sites, but it also offers dedicated tent camping areas and rustic cabins for those who prefer a solid roof over their head.Crucially, as customer reviews attest, the campground is known for its
hands-on hospitality
. The owners are often cited for their friendliness and willingness to go the extra mile, sometimes even delivering homemade meals to the campsites, fostering a welcoming, small-business atmosphere that differentiates it from larger, chain-operated parks. However, it is essential for prospective campers to note one key environmental factor that shapes the experience: a nearby, active train track
. While some local users find the passing trains and their whistles to be a charming, rustic aspect of the rural setting, others find the noise and vibration disruptive, especially at night. Being aware of this characteristic is part of planning a successful stay here.Location and Accessibility
The strategic location of Mill Creek Campground makes it an incredibly accessible destination for both local Kansas campers and travelers moving across the state on Interstate 70. Its address—
22470 Campground Rd, Paxico, KS 66526, USA
—places it in Wabaunsee County, right off a major exit from I-70. This makes it a highly convenient spot for travelers seeking an easy overnight stop without straying far from the interstate, as well as an accessible weekend destination for residents of nearby cities. The drive from Topeka is quick, often less than 30 minutes, and it is a manageable distance from Manhattan and Junction City. The campground is situated just a short walk or drive from

Wow!! Beautiful campground! Peaceful & clean. The hospitality of the owners is outstanding! Geoff & his wife go out of their way to make You feel welcome. My RV generator quit working & Geoff took the time to work on it to get it going. I will definitely be returning to this peaceful, beautiful, safe campground!
Aug 13, 2025 · Erin HallMade a reservation in advance for a tent site - spoke to two different people before arriving and no one mentioned the trains that consistently run thru the night and shake your tent. We are from out of town and would have no way of knowing what to expect if the management doesn't tell us (obviously they don't advertise loud trains on their website). Tent sites are an open field - no fire rings or set site. We were never offered any of the sites near the creek, which would have been a better experience (i.e. instead of our tent literally shaking with every train, maybe it would have just been obnoxiously loud). While folks were generally nice, it is clear they don't want to give you the full picture- clearly no one would stay here if they knew. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. There is nothing "resort-like" about a field next to the train tracks.
Jul 15, 2025 · Traveling TinyAbsolute great experience. The new owners are great people and doing a mighty work bringing the place up. A little terrain for every type of camping or glamping. Great location not far from Topeka but far enough. The presence of God is all over this place!
May 30, 2025 · neil pepplerThis campground used to be one of our favorite spots, but ever since the new ownership took over, it’s been a complete letdown. What once felt like a welcoming, family-friendly place has turned into a disorganized mess with rude staff. Customer service is the worst part. The new owners are unprofessional and seem completely uninterested in feedback. Such a shame to see a great place ruined by careless management. We won’t be back, and we’ll be warning our camping friends to steer clear.
Jul 01, 2025 · Kendra JacksonTrailer park next to train tracks that run all night and shake your tent. Absolutely awful. The test sites are just an open field, no set sites, no fire rings. Sleeping under a highway underpass would be a more enjoyable experience than staying here.
