Mohican Group Camp About

For Ohioans planning a memorable outdoor gathering with friends, family, or an organization, Mohican Group Camp in Perrysville offers an exceptional solution. Unlike individual campsites, this dedicated group area is specifically designed to accommodate larger parties, providing ample space and shared amenities that foster camaraderie and fun. Nestled within the breathtaking natural beauty of Mohican State Park, this camp is renowned for being a "great place for some group tent camping," making it a highly sought-after destination for various group events.

The demand for Mohican Group Camp is a testament to its popularity and suitability for large gatherings, with many advising to "book it early enough" as it "fills up fast." This popularity is well-deserved, stemming from the camp's ability to combine the rustic charm of tent camping with the practicalities needed for a larger group. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with frequent patrols by park rangers ensuring a safe and problem-free environment for everyone. Campers also appreciate the dog-friendly policy, allowing furry family members to join in on the outdoor adventure, provided they are well-behaved.

Mohican Group Camp comprises four distinct sites, all encircling a central area, fostering a communal feel while still offering individual space. While the sites might not have rigidly defined separations, the general understanding among campers creates a harmonious environment. Each site includes essential provisions like picnic tables and individual fire rings, perfect for shared meals and evening storytelling. The availability of potable water, shared portable toilets, and dumpsters simplifies group logistics, allowing campers to focus on enjoying the beautiful surroundings and each other's company. Whether you're organizing a family reunion, a scout troop outing, or a casual gathering of friends, Mohican Group Camp provides the ideal backdrop for creating unforgettable shared experiences in the heart of Ohio's natural splendor.

Mohican Group Camp is conveniently located at 3054 Co Hwy 939, Perrysville, OH 44864, USA. This address places it squarely within the renowned Mohican State Park, a jewel in Ohio's natural crown, known for its stunning gorges, towering forests, and the scenic Clear Fork Mohican River. The park's location in north-central Ohio makes it a relatively accessible destination for groups traveling from various parts of the state.

Access to Mohican Group Camp is generally straightforward, with County Highway 939 providing a direct route. While the camp is designed for a rustic experience, its roads are manageable for typical vehicles. A significant advantage noted by previous visitors is the "super not accurate" "2 car limit" often found on reservation info; in reality, each site can comfortably accommodate "like 6-8 cars or more." This provides much-needed flexibility for groups with multiple vehicles, ensuring that parking is not a hindrance to your gathering.

Once inside the group camp area, the four sites are arranged around a central circle, making it easy for groups to find their reserved spot and navigate between sites. While individual sites are distinct, their proximity encourages a communal atmosphere. The location within Mohican State Park also means easy access to the park's extensive trail system, the Clear Fork Mohican River for paddling, and other natural attractions, allowing groups to seamlessly transition from camp activities to broader park exploration. This blend of accessibility and immersive natural surroundings makes Mohican Group Camp an ideal choice for Ohioans seeking a group outdoor adventure.

Mohican Group Camp provides a set of essential services and shared amenities specifically designed to facilitate comfortable and convenient group tent camping.

  • Spacious Tent Sites: Each of the four group sites offers plenty of "mostly flat space to set up tents," accommodating multiple tents for large groups.
  • Individual Picnic Tables: Every site is equipped with picnic tables, providing convenient surfaces for group meals, games, and socializing.
  • Individual Fire Rings: Each group site has its own fire ring, allowing individual groups to enjoy campfires (provided no burn bans are in effect).
  • Communal Large Fire Pit: A central, large communal fire pit is available, likely intended for use when all four group sites are reserved together, fostering a sense of shared community.
  • Shared Portable Toilets (Porta-Potties): Three shared portable toilets are strategically located for use by all four group sites, ensuring basic restroom facilities are available.
  • Potable Water Spigot: A central water spigot provides potable water, which is noted to "taste great," likely sourced from local city water, ensuring safe drinking water for campers.
  • Dumpsters: Two dumpsters are conveniently located for all groups to dispose of their trash, promoting cleanliness and adherence to Leave No Trace principles.
  • Dog-Friendly Environment: The campground is welcoming to dogs, allowing campers to bring their furry companions along for the group adventure.
  • Regular Ranger Patrols: Park rangers frequently drive through the group camp area, enhancing safety and ensuring adherence to park rules, contributing to a problem-free environment.

While these services are focused on the practicalities of primitive group camping, they are well-maintained and contribute significantly to the overall positive experience at Mohican Group Camp.

    • Site 4 (Southwest): Almost fully wooded with plenty of tent space, located near the entrance.

As Mohican Group Camp is a facility managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) within a state park, traditional commercial "promotions or special offers" are not typically advertised. The pricing for group sites is generally standardized and aims to be affordable while supporting the maintenance and operation of the park's facilities.

However, the inherent value of booking Mohican Group Camp for Ohio locals lies in its specialized design for large gatherings, which often translates to significant cost-effectiveness when compared to reserving multiple individual sites or other private group venues. The ability to accommodate many vehicles, as noted by past campers, further adds to this value, preventing additional costs or logistical headaches related to parking.

While direct monetary discounts may not be published, it's always advisable to:

  • Book Early: The primary "tip" for securing a spot at this popular camp is to book well in advance, as it "fills up fast." This ensures your group can secure the desired dates.
  • Check ODNR Website: Consult the official Ohio State Parks website for the most up-to-date pricing, reservation policies, and any potential group camping guidelines or seasonal updates.
  • Inquire About Special Programs: Occasionally, state parks might have programs or guidelines related to non-profit groups, scout organizations, or educational institutions that could impact booking or usage. It's worth inquiring if your group falls into such a category.

The true "promotion" of Mohican Group Camp is its tailored solution for large group tent camping, providing essential amenities and a spacious environment within a highly desirable natural setting, all at a reasonable state park rate.

Great place for some group tent camping! Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place if you're able to book it early enough. It fills up fast. All sites have picnic tables and are dog friendly. The "2 car limit" on the reservation info is super not accurate. each site probably averaged like 6-8 cars or more. The rangers drive through frequently, and there were little to no problems. We didn't see any Raccoons, but we are pretty careful about cleaning up well. Plenty of mostly flat space to set up tents. We had site 2 reserved, but this review will be about all of them. The sites don't have clear separations of where each of them ends, but usually camping is pretty chill, however this could cause issues. The sites all share 3 poterpotties, a water spigot, 2 dumpsters, and a central communal large firepit. I think the firepit in the middle is for if you reserve all 4 group sites, but each site has individual fire rings on them as well. All four sites are located around the circle of the group site that has the large firepit in the middle. Site 1 is on the southeast corner of the circle. It is probably the smallest of the sites and only has about 4 trees on the site. This site is also adjacent to the 3 poterpotties (directly south) shared by the group camp. Next, site 2, is in the northeast corner of the site. This site is completely treeless in the camping area, so don't plan to hammock here. It was great for cornhole, KanJam, and bocce, but plan ahead. I would definitely recommend an awning for this site. Between site 2 and 3 is where the water and dumpsters are located. The water was potable and taste great. I would assume it is local city water. Site 3 in the northwest corner is about 2/3 wooded with a nice open flat area to set up tents in. If I were going again I would try and book this one. Plenty of shade and sun. The only downside is that this site, and site 4 are along the road. The road is not busy at all, but some headlights or car noise could disturb a peaceful night's sleep. Over at site 4 on the Southwest corner, the site is almost fully wooded. The trees are far enough apart that there is still plenty of room to set up tents though. As stated before it is along the road, but it is also next to the entrance to the group area. So if there are lots of people coming and going this could be an issue. There was a group already here so my photo's of this site are not super close up to respect their privacy.

Lots of space, potable water and portable toilets. There was also a trash receptacle near by. I definitely enjoyed my weekend hanging out here with a group of friends.

Went here with a large group of about 50 people for a church camping trip and it was awesome. Lots of great hikes close by and a huge fire pit in the center to have big group fires by.

Great area for a group camp. And if you like hinting, there is a public hunting area nearby. And a covered bridge. A very cool place
