Mount Nebo Campground About
Nestled high above the Arkansas River Valley, Mount Nebo Campground offers a refreshing and invigorating escape for locals seeking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Natural State. Part of the iconic Mount Nebo State Park, this campground provides a unique blend of rugged outdoor adventure and convenient amenities, making it an ideal destination for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a tranquil retreat. Rising 1,350 feet above the valley floor, Mount Nebo has long been a cherished spot in Arkansas, known for its cooler temperatures, lush greenery, and abundant wildlife. It's a place where breathtaking panoramic views are a daily reality, and the serenity of nature is your constant companion. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway with the family, a challenging mountain biking expedition, or simply a peaceful night under the stars, Mount Nebo Campground offers an unforgettable experience right in your backyard.
Mount Nebo State Park holds a rich history, being Arkansas's second oldest state park, established in 1928. Much of its enduring infrastructure, including many trails and facilities, was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, imbuing the park with a rustic charm that harkens back to an earlier era. The mountain's name, derived from the biblical Mount Nebo, from which Moses viewed the Promised Land, speaks to the inspiring vistas that await visitors. While the mountain was once a thriving resort town, with hotels and amenities catering to an elite clientele, today it has been preserved as a natural haven. The campground itself is thoughtfully integrated into this natural landscape, providing a true outdoor experience while still being accessible to modern comforts. For Arkansas residents, this means a chance to explore a historical and ecologically significant area without venturing far from home.
The Mount Nebo Campground is conveniently situated at 16136 State Hwy 155, Dardanelle, AR 72834, USA. This location places it firmly within the stunning Mount Nebo State Park, ensuring direct access to all the park's renowned features and activities. Reaching the campground is part of the adventure, as State Highway 155, leading up the mountain, features a series of tight hairpin turns. While this winding ascent offers spectacular views, it's important to note that trailers or RVs longer than 24 feet are generally not recommended for the climb. This caution ensures a safer and more enjoyable journey for all visitors.
Despite its elevated and seemingly remote setting, Mount Nebo Campground is surprisingly accessible for those traveling from across Arkansas. Dardanelle, the nearby town, serves as a gateway to the park and is well-connected by state highways, making it a feasible drive from various parts of the state. Once you're on the mountain, the park's internal roads are paved and well-maintained, guiding you directly to the campground area. While the campground itself is nestled amidst trees, providing a sense of being truly "away from it all," its strategic location means you're never too far from the park's visitor center or popular trailheads. The unique placement on top of Mount Nebo also means that while you're enjoying the tranquility of the campground, you're just a short distance from the stunning overlooks that provide those panoramic views of the Arkansas River Valley and Lake Dardanelle.

Customer Reviews
It's a neat park but I found it impossible to locate a map of the campground so I could choose a site I'd be happy with. Ended up right next to the playground (site 25) which stayed noisy and busy well after dark. No sites have any privacy. A few have shade but mine didn't until late afternoon. Arkansas State Parks could really stand to update their reservation site to include maps and photos of their camp sites and cabins. I wasn't super thrilled about the restrooms here either. They were located away from the campground next to the pool, and at the back of the inside of a bathhouse building that houses both the men's and women's restrooms. As a female traveling alone, I didn't feel safe. There were 2 toilet stalls and one shower. The shower did not have a door, only a curtain, also a little scary for a solo traveler. They were very clean though. The trails and scenic drives here were beautiful. Many options for loops. Very peaceful and incredible sunset and sunrise views. Really loved the stone patio overlooking the valley. BTW there is a nuclear power plant nearby. The cabins here look amazing, but there was a 2 night minimum to book.
Clean family and pet friendly campground. Disc campground is definitely geared toward children and mountain bike riders. The restroom is very small but clean and luckily we were there when the campground was not full due to sketchy weather. Men's bathroom only has one shower two toilets one urinal and one sink so if the campground was busy this could be an issue. We also noticed that the area looks like a suburb instead of a state park. We were a little shocked when we got on top of the mountain and it was nothing but houses everywhere. For us it worked good we're motorcycle camping and was able to get a perfect spot.
Highly recommend this beautiful and unique park. Right on top of the mountain with amazing views all around. Stayed in the campground and enjoyed the weekend with no complaints. Everyone on staff was very nice and accommodating with everything being very clean. The park interpreter, Andrea, did the activities for the kids but everyone can participate and is very knowledgeable and extremely patient with the kids.
Looks like cowboys on the mountain. Wonderful place and only wonderful people visit here! Prepare and plan for Mt. Nebo weather as it can be fast changing and exciting. 😃 The bike trails are some of the finest around. Remember come here and leave with only memories!
The views are beautiful from this campground. There's a few spots that are nice, but most are small. No privacy. The bathroom is a little hike, but very clean. It even has some good soap! There is electricity and water though my water didn't work. You could even camp here free. There were about 12 people that had taken a campsite for the day. There were some just car camping in the parking lot by the bathroom/pool area. The restrooms are very clean. It had some good quality soap! I stayed a few nights because it was cheap for Arkansas residents, and I wanted to charge all of my devices. I left a day early since it was full and noisy with some guy who felt like the entire campground needed to hear his taste in music. I would stay again but only during the week. I seen the ranger once while I was there. They should drive around a little more often.
