Location and Accessibility

Mtn Top Campground is uniquely situated at 100 Kiwanis Park Rd, Haysi, VA 24256, USA. This address places it squarely within Haysi, a town known for its deep connection to the wild, mountainous terrain of Dickenson County in Southwest Virginia. For Virginians across the Commonwealth, Haysi represents a true escape into the heart of Appalachia, offering an authentic experience of mountain living and unparalleled outdoor recreation.

As its name, "Mountain Top Campground," suggests, the park is indeed located on an elevated position. One review insightfully notes, "newsflash, it's on top of a mountain. The last half mile is a little steep but doable." Another adds, "Beware there is a steep mountain to go straight up and some vehicles won't make it!" This highlights that while the location offers incredible views and a peaceful atmosphere, access requires navigating a steep incline. RVers, particularly those with larger rigs, should be aware of this and ensure their vehicle is capable of handling mountain roads. Despite the climb, the reward is a quiet, elevated retreat.

Despite its elevated and seemingly remote setting, Mtn Top Campground offers excellent accessibility to major regional attractions. Reviewers specifically mention its proximity: "It's within 20 minutes of the Breaks Interstate Park and John Flanagan Reservoir."

  • Breaks Interstate Park: Often called the "Grand Canyon of the South," this magnificent park is a short drive away. It offers breathtaking overlooks of one of the largest canyons east of the Mississippi, extensive hiking trails, rock climbing, and educational programs, making it a must-visit for any camper in the area.

  • John W. Flannagan Dam and Reservoir: This beautiful lake provides ample opportunities for fishing (bass, walleye, trout), boating, and other water activities. Its tranquil waters offer a stark contrast to the more rugged terrain, perfect for a relaxing day on the water.

Additionally, Haysi is situated within a region known for the Spearhead Trails system, which offers hundreds of miles of multi-use trails for ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, and mountain biking. While not explicitly mentioned in reviews, campgrounds in this area often serve as excellent bases for accessing these trails. The combination of a peaceful, elevated setting and convenient access to major outdoor recreational hubs makes Mtn Top Campground a prime location for an authentic Virginia mountain adventure.

Fantastic small, quiet campground. The full hook up spaces are large and you have lots of room to maneuver even a large RV into your spot without too much stress. The camp host Genia is the best, she and her husband Greg make you feel at home. I can't say enough good things about how great they are. It's within 20 minutes of the Breaks Interstate Park and John Flanagan Reservoir. Lastly, it's named Mountain Top Campground, newsflash, it's on top of a mountain. The last half mile is a little steep but doable.

Great little campground near Spearhead OHV Trail. Clean, quiet. Verizon tower right above it. Newer utility connections.

A full hook up camp, but not much else. It's a fairgrounds, not well maintained in the off season.
