When planning a camping getaway, finding a campground that offers convenience, affordability, and a pleasant atmosphere is key. Northern Nights Campground in Roscommon, Michigan, aims to be such a destination, providing a base for exploring the beauty of Northern Michigan. It’s a place designed for those who appreciate the ease of a self check-in system and straightforward access to their campsites, allowing more time to enjoy the natural surroundings.
Northern Nights Campground positions itself as a practical choice for campers, particularly those traveling with RVs, due to its easy-to-find and accessible sites. The concept of "self check-in" suggests a streamlined process, minimizing administrative fuss and maximizing time spent on recreation. This can be a significant benefit for travelers arriving at various times or those who prefer a more independent camping experience. While the campground itself is described as "lovely" in appearance, it's important for prospective visitors to be aware of the nuances of customer service and management practices, as some past experiences highlight areas for consideration. Understanding these aspects allows for a more informed decision when choosing a camping spot in Michigan. Despite past issues, the fundamental offering of a camping spot in a desirable Michigan location remains a core appeal for many seeking an outdoor escape.
Northern Nights Campground is situated at 10058 N Cut Rd, Roscommon, MI 48653, USA. This location places it squarely in the heart of Northern Michigan, a region renowned for its natural beauty and diverse recreational opportunities. Roscommon itself is a charming village located in Roscommon County, often considered a gateway to the vast Huron-Manistee National Forests, numerous inland lakes, and the mighty Au Sable River.
The campground's address on N Cut Rd indicates its position amidst the characteristic woodlands of the area, offering a sense of seclusion while remaining accessible. Roscommon is well-connected by major state highways, making it relatively easy to reach from various parts of Michigan. For instance, it's just off M-18 and relatively close to I-75, providing efficient routes for travelers coming from the southern Lower Peninsula or the Upper Peninsula. This accessibility is crucial for campers hauling RVs or trailers, ensuring a smooth journey to their destination. This balance of convenience and natural immersion makes Northern Nights Campground a practical choice for exploring Michigan's northern gems.
Northern Nights Campground provides essential services aimed at making your stay convenient and comfortable, particularly for RV campers.
Self Check-in: A notable feature is the self check-in system, allowing campers to arrive and settle into their sites efficiently without needing direct staff assistance for initial registration. This offers flexibility for arrival times.
RV Sites: The campground offers RV sites that are described as "very easy to find and get to," suggesting spaciousness and clear signage, which is a significant advantage for maneuvering larger vehicles.
Electrical Hookups: Electrical service is available at RV sites. However, it's important to note the pricing structure: electricity is included for stays of less than four days, but an additional charge applies for stays exceeding four days.
Basic Amenities: While not explicitly detailed, standard campground services typically include access to common areas, and potentially communal water spigots or a dump station. Given the review, the focus appears to be on providing essential, straightforward camping facilities.
On-Site Staff (Limited Interaction): Although self check-in is promoted, there is staff involvement, as evidenced by references to "Maggie" and phone discussions with the owner. It implies that while initial check-in is self-service, there are contacts for issues or assistance.
Northern Nights Campground presents several features and highlights that are attractive to campers seeking a straightforward and accessible outdoor experience in Michigan.
Convenient Self Check-in System: The "self check-in type of campground" is a significant highlight, offering flexibility and ease for campers, especially those arriving late or preferring a more independent arrival process. This system is praised for being "pretty nice."
Easy-to-Access RV Sites: A key advantage for RVers is that the sites are "very easy to find and get to." This suggests good layout, clear signage, and sufficient space for maneuvering larger recreational vehicles, reducing stress upon arrival.
Affordable Pricing for Shorter Stays: The pricing structure, where electricity is included for stays under four days, offers "great prices" for shorter trips, making it an economical choice for weekend getaways or quick stopovers.
"Lovely" Campground Appearance: Despite concerns regarding management, the physical appearance of the campground itself is noted as "lovely," suggesting well-maintained grounds and a pleasant aesthetic that enhances the camping experience.
Prime Northern Michigan Location: Situated in Roscommon, the campground offers excellent access to the natural attractions of Northern Michigan, including the Huron-Manistee National Forests, numerous lakes, and the Au Sable River, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and boating.
Potential for Quiet Relaxation: The self check-in and potentially less intensive on-site management model might appeal to campers seeking a more independent and less structured environment for relaxation.
It is important for prospective campers to balance these features with the noted customer service experiences when making their booking decisions.
While Northern Nights Campground doesn't publicly list traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the provided information, its pricing structure itself acts as a form of offer, particularly for shorter stays.
Competitive Pricing for Short Stays: The campground offers "great prices" for stays of less than four days, during which electricity is included in the base rate. This makes it an attractive and cost-effective option for weekend trips or brief stopovers. For longer stays, campers should factor in the additional charge for electricity.
Self Check-in Convenience as a Benefit: While not a monetary discount, the self check-in system can be considered a "special offer" in terms of convenience and flexibility, allowing campers to arrive at their leisure without strict adherence to office hours. This flexibility can be highly valued by travelers.
For the most up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential deals, it is always recommended to contact Northern Nights Campground directly. Given the past customer service experiences, it would be prudent to confirm all booking details, pricing, and specific site assignments well in advance to avoid any misunderstandings upon arrival. Customer Reviews
Self check in type of campground witch is pretty nice. RV sites are very easy to find and get to. great prices as long as you stay less then four days anything over four days they will charge you for electric. all in all this campground was pretty nice to stay at.
Edit: This review is updated due to the owner being accusatory of myself being intoxicated. I would like to point out that the owner does not even stay near the campground, but we had this discussion over the phone while he was in New Jersey. Therefore he was unable to even see/speak with me in person. Yes, I am guilty of saying one cuss word to the owner (not his staff) I actually feel terrible for Maggie- the lovely lady who had to clean up Ben’s mess. Please be wary of any owner that throws out false accusations to try and cover their butts (I’ll keep it PG). Not a good look. The owner does not need to agree with this review, but I have stated only facts with the exception of my opinion that I stated at the end of my review. Really, though, the campground itself looked lovely. Just want you to know what you’re getting yourselves into if you book. No one wants to turn up to someone else in their reserved space. ————————————————————— I've been reading some reviews and noticed that the owner has responded to negative feedback by claiming the campground is now under new management. However, let me tell you—this new management is precisely why I will not be returning to Northern Nights. Although the campground itself looked lovely, I never got the chance to experience it. During a long road trip with my family, we had booked a night at Northern Nights, only to arrive and discover that our space had been double-booked. Ben, the owner, chose to accommodate a "repeat customer" who was staying for more nights, leaving us without our reserved spot. Ben's managerial skills are lacking, and his customer service is even worse. While he did book us a room at a low-rate motel—a far cry from the beautiful summer night we had hoped for at the campground—this inconvenience meant that our family was split up into separate rooms instead of enjoying time together. To add insult to injury, he refused to offer a refund for our reservation, despite another family occupying the spot and paying for it. When we suggested that this was insufficient compensation and requested a refund, he laughed and said, "You're not going to be making a profit off of this." I have to agree with a previous reviewer: Ben seems more interested in prioritizing those who will generate more income for him than in providing good service to all customers.
Thanks for being so accommodating and also, meeting us at the entrance and leading us to our site. The assistance with the planking for the soft sand areas, A-One, Top-Knotch.
We enjoyed this so much that I would like to keep it a secret so there is always space available! I booked earlier in the week for a long weekend of tent camping. Wood was dropped off at the site. Our site was great; backed up to the woods/trails. Bathrooms are decent, definitely clean. It was quiet at night. There is a little playground for the kids with sports equipment. The only thing I would change is the streetlamp across from our site. It was a little too much at night. I will definitely bring the kids and dog back!
A lovely little get away! We will be back again! :) Our family enjoyed the walking trails and the rustic site. Such a peaceful and quiet campground, and there was a little playground for the kids. Cleanest restrooms in any campground we've ever visited. ⭐ ✨ ⭐
