As South Higgins Lake Campground is a Michigan State Park, its pricing and any promotional offers are typically managed through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reservation system. Specific "special offers" in the traditional commercial sense are not frequently advertised for individual state parks. However, Michigan state parks do offer value and potential savings through various programs:
-
Michigan Recreation Passport: This annual pass, purchased with your vehicle registration, provides unlimited entry to all Michigan state parks and recreation areas for a full year. For frequent visitors, this offers significant savings over daily entry fees.
-
Senior Discounts: Michigan residents aged 65 and older may be eligible for reduced camping rates. It's advisable to check the current DNR regulations for specific percentages or conditions.
-
Off-Season Rates: While not a "promotion," camping rates are generally lower during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) and winter compared to the peak summer months. This can be a great way to experience the park at a reduced cost and with fewer crowds.
-
DNR Website and Social Media: The best way to stay informed about any potential limited-time offers, special events, or reservation tips is to regularly check the Michigan DNR website (MiDNRReservations.com) and follow their social media channels for updates on state park activities and news.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential discounts, visitors are encouraged to use the Michigan DNR's online reservation portal or call the park directly at (989) 821-6374.

Customer Reviews
What a beautiful place to visit in the winter! As I’m sure most see this lake in the summer, we had a trip to come watch the SnoDrift rally and stayed in the cabin here. It was all we needed from an amenity standpoint and the beds were actually very comfortable for a camping cabin. Only gripe was that the bathrooms were closed (offseason) so we had a porta potty to use in the frigid temps… but that is to be expected. Awesome place to visit and the park looks to be managed very well!
I love Higgins lake. A beautiful spot to camp. The waters are so clear and shallow for a good distance out. Great for floating and hanging out. Lots to do for the kids, decent parks, base ball diamond, volley ball court, lots of little beaches and a couple dog beaches. The bathrooms are fairly decent and clean. They just need to update the lighting and exhaust fans in the shower rooms. But the best spot to watch the sun sets.
Great scenery, nice view and accessible lake, big large campsites. Water was cold in the bathrooms, 1 or 2 shower stalls had hot showers... Needs updating. Party city though... No rangers/park staff seen patrolling after 10 pm, especially on a busy holiday weekend... Multiple sites playing loud music for hours after quiet time. Talking loudly. Hearing the loud talking and laughing, beer cans popping open all night was annoying across multiple campsites near and far. Nice park overall, but needs management control of noise and enforcement of quiet time rules.
Love this campground. Has the perfect balance of amenities for the perfect Michigan camping weekend. Easy drive from Metro Detroit. Dog friendly with dog beach. Campground huge with beautiful view of Higgins Lake. Bring swimsuits and bikes and get ready for a good time.
Very beautiful. I wish there was more amenities tho. The "playground" is a see saw from 1980, the bathrooms are too crowded and the beach is very over crowded. It's a nice campground, but I've been to better.
