Nestled within the tranquil, wooded landscape that defines much of Western Rhode Island, this private campground offers a blend of natural retreat and family-focused recreation.
As locals, we know the importance of finding a reliable spot for a weekend escape or a seasonal stay that doesn't require a cross-country drive. While some non-seasonal campers have noted that certain individual sites, particularly tent sites, can be small or have maintenance issues, such as uneven ground or poor drainage, the overall atmosphere is celebrated for its friendly staff and robust amenities. Visitors often praise the welcoming nature of the management and the enjoyable communal features, which suggests that the park's primary focus is on providing a community-oriented, activity-rich experience.
Introduction / Overview
Oak Embers Campground is a private, family-oriented camping destination located in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. It operates throughout the main camping season, typically from May 1st through November 30th, offering a mix of seasonal and short-term sites for tents and RVs. The campground is well-known in the Rhode Island camping circuit for its emphasis on organized family fun and its rural, wooded setting. It provides a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life, but with the added convenience of on-site amenities and proximity to outdoor recreational areas.
The total capacity includes over 100 spaces, divided between short-term rentals and seasonal sites, reflecting its commitment to both visiting tourists and long-term local campers. Site options range from primitive tent camping with no hookups to full hookup sites capable of accommodating large RVs and trailers. The management works to foster a welcoming environment, often highlighted by customer reviews that consistently mention the "super sweet" and friendly staff. This professional and attentive approach helps manage the general store, facilities, and the busy schedule of daily activities that define the Oak Embers experience.
Location and Accessibility
The campground’s address is 219 Escoheag Hill Rd, West Greenwich, RI 02817, USA. This location is one of its most significant advantages for local Rhode Island users. Crucially, Oak Embers is only a short distance from Interstate 95 (I-95), which is the spine of Rhode Island travel. This easy access to a major interstate means that while the campground itself feels secluded and deeply wooded, reaching it from Providence, Warwick, or even parts of Massachusetts and Connecticut is quick and straightforward. For campers from South County, its location off Route 3 and Route 165 makes it a convenient drive.
Furthermore, its positioning is a gateway to one of Rhode Island's largest and most important recreational areas: the Arcadia Management Area. This proximity means that campers are just steps away from:
For those interested in venturing slightly further, the Rhode Island beaches on the western side, as well as the University of Rhode Island (URI), are generally only about 25 minutes away, providing a perfect blend of woods and coastal access for a longer stay.

Oak Embers Campground is an ideal and highly suitable choice for Rhode Island locals looking for a dependable and entertaining summer camping experience. It capitalizes on its convenient, central location—making it easy for families to pack up after work on a Friday and be setting up camp within the hour, regardless of where they live in the state.
More than just convenience, the campground delivers on the promise of a classic family vacation. The comprehensive schedule of activities and the presence of amenities like the pool and playground mean that families don't have to spend their entire trip planning excursions; the fun is right at their campsite doorstep. The campsites were ridiculously small for the not seasonal people. We were put next to a huge hill that seemed to be either active or an old sewer so the amount of flies was absolutely horrible. The pool was cloudy and didn't look like it had been cleaned. The staff was very friendly but we will definitely not be coming back here at all.
Sep 01, 2025 · Samantha ChapmanMany of the tent sites have large, dead standing trees (widow makers). I normally would not make camp under such a threat but there were no other options available. The facilities and staff were great otherwise. Nice big pool and lots of scheduled activities for the whole family.
Aug 15, 2022 · Joshua WagnerThe campground was nice but to small for our RV. The pool was kinda green and the playground wasn't usable due to a bee infestation. The staff was absolutely amazing though.
Aug 15, 2025 · Debra QuinnStayed here as a seasonal camper- most staff were extremely friendly! But the owners were not very friendly at all. There was always a problem. Besides that, the campground goes through staff often, so there are times when the bathrooms are filthy and I have personally seen sewage being let out into road and into the sewer drain. I do not recommend this place, although the scenery is truly amazing.
Mar 07, 2018 · Alexandra LialNot my cup of tea when it comes to camping. You’re elbow to elbow with other campers, not much privacy to be had if that’s what you’re looking for. Facilities were beat, broken hand dryers etc. Pathways are not very well maintained and the sites are extremely rocky and not great for young children.
