This means embracing the natural environment, focusing on the simple pleasures of being immersed in nature, and providing a setting where families and friends can truly bond. It’s designed for those who appreciate the rustic charm of a campground while also desiring convenient access to water recreation.
The name itself, "Riverbend Campground And Canoe Rental | Camping, Canoeing, Kayaking, and Tubing On The Rifle River!", clearly highlights its core offerings. This isn't just a place to sleep under the stars; it's a hub for experiencing the lively Rifle River firsthand. Whether you're a seasoned paddler, a novice kayaker, or simply looking to lazily float down the river on a tube, Riverbend provides all the necessary components for an unforgettable Michigan outdoor adventure. Riverbend Campground And Canoe Rental is conveniently located at 1165 N Main Street, Omer, MI 48749, USA. This address places it squarely within the charming, small city of Omer in Arenac County, Michigan. Omer, often referred to as "Michigan's Smallest City," is nestled along the picturesque Rifle River, giving Riverbend its prime location and defining characteristic.
The accessibility of Riverbend Campground is a significant advantage for Michigan locals. North Main Street (M-65) is a state highway, meaning the campground is easily reachable via well-maintained roads. For those traveling from various parts of Michigan, reaching Omer generally involves straightforward routes, often connecting from major arteries like I-75. This makes Riverbend an ideal destination for weekend trips or longer vacations without the hassle of navigating complex or unpaved rural roads. Its position directly on a state highway ensures smooth arrival for all types of vehicles, including larger RVs.
Being situated in Omer offers visitors the benefit of a quiet, small-town atmosphere while still being close enough to essential services. While Omer itself is small, nearby towns like Standish or Au Gres provide access to grocery stores, gas stations, and other amenities that campers might need during their stay. This blend of tranquil natural surroundings and convenient access to supplies enhances the overall camping experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the wilderness without feeling completely isolated.
The most significant aspect of its location and accessibility, of course, is its direct frontage and operations on the Rifle River. This prime riverside spot is what enables all the core water activities that Riverbend is famous for—canoeing, kayaking, and tubing. The campground is designed to provide direct and easy access to the river for launching and retrieving watercraft, making the transition from campsite to river adventure seamless. For Michigan residents who love being on the water, the ease with which they can access the Rifle River directly from their campsite is an unparalleled convenience and a major draw. The combination of easy road access and direct river access truly makes Riverbend a top choice for outdoor recreation in the region.
Riverbend Campground And Canoe Rental is structured to provide a comprehensive outdoor experience, combining camping accommodations with a full suite of river-based recreational services. Here’s a breakdown of the key services offered:
- Camping: The core service is providing campsites for tents and RVs. Based on customer reviews, the campground offers an "outdoor camping" feel, indicating sites that are perhaps less regimented than typical commercial parks, providing a more natural experience. The allowance for "everyone on one site" suggests flexibility for groups and families, which is a significant convenience. While not explicitly stated, common camping services typically include access to fire rings and picnic tables at each site.
- Canoe Rental: Riverbend specializes in offering canoe rentals, providing visitors with the equipment needed to explore the Rifle River at their own pace. This service typically includes the canoe itself, paddles, and personal flotation devices (PFDs).
- Kayak Rental: For those who prefer a single-person paddling experience, kayak rentals are also available. Similar to canoes, this service would encompass the kayak, paddle, and PFD.
- Tubing: A popular and leisurely way to enjoy the river, tubing services are a highlight. This usually involves renting an inflatable tube and arranging for transportation upriver for a relaxing float back down to a designated pick-up or the campground.
- Shuttle Services: Essential for river trips, Riverbend likely provides shuttle services to transport paddlers and tubers upriver to their launch points, making it convenient for them to float back down to the campground or a designated end point without worrying about vehicle logistics.
- Clean Facilities: Customer reviews mention a "clean place" and good "upkeep," suggesting that the campground maintains its facilities well. While specific details aren't provided, this typically refers to clean restrooms and potentially shower facilities.
- Friendly Staff: Reviews highlight "staff very friendly inside," indicating good customer service and a welcoming environment for visitors.
- On-Site Store/Office: Given the "staff inside" comment, it’s highly probable there’s an on-site office or small store where guests check in, rent equipment, and perhaps purchase basic camping supplies, firewood, or snacks.
- Rules for Orderly Conduct: The mention of rules due to "intercity people" and a sign about not acting "like animals" implies a structured environment designed to ensure a pleasant and respectful experience for all campers. While initially perceived as "strange," one reviewer understood their necessity for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.
- RV Accommodations: A review specifically notes that "class A will fit at river if not over 42ft," confirming that the campground can accommodate larger RVs, though with potential size limitations, indicating some sites are suitable for motorhomes.
These services collectively position Riverbend Campground as a full-service destination for river-based recreation and comfortable outdoor camping in Michigan.
Riverbend Campground And Canoe Rental truly shines through several key features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for outdoor enthusiasts in Michigan.
- Authentic Outdoor Camping Experience: A significant highlight, echoed by customer reviews, is that Riverbend feels "more like outdoor camping versus like a KOA style." This distinction is crucial for many Michiganders who prefer a less commercialized, more natural, and rustic camping environment. It suggests a focus on the true essence of being in nature, away from paved sites and extensive amenities, appealing to those seeking genuine wilderness immersion.
- Direct Rifle River Access: The prime location directly on the Rifle River is arguably its most prominent feature. This allows for seamless transitions from campsite to water activities. The ability to easily access canoeing, kayaking, and tubing right from the campground is a massive draw, providing unparalleled convenience for river adventurers.
- Comprehensive River Activity Rentals: Beyond just having river access, Riverbend offers the full suite of equipment rentals for water fun: canoes, kayaks, and tubes. This one-stop-shop approach means visitors don't need to bring their own gear or seek external rental companies, simplifying the planning process for a day on the river.
- Excellent Value and Pricing: Customers consistently highlight "Great prices," indicating that Riverbend offers an affordable option for camping and river activities. This value proposition makes it accessible to a wider range of Michigan families and groups looking for outdoor fun without breaking the bank.
- Flexible Group/Family Sites: The positive feedback about being able to "camp everyone on one site" is a significant highlight for groups, families, or friends traveling together. This flexibility in site occupancy avoids the need for multiple, separated campsites, fostering a stronger sense of togetherness and making group planning much easier.
- Cleanliness and Good Upkeep: Despite its rustic feel, reviewers praise the "clean place" and good "upkeep." This demonstrates a commitment by management to maintain a pleasant and hygienic environment, ensuring campers can enjoy their stay without concerns about cleanliness.
- Friendly and Professional Staff: The "staff very friendly inside" comment points to a welcoming and helpful team at Riverbend. Good customer service enhances the overall experience, making visitors feel valued and supported throughout their stay.
- Structured but Understanding Environment: The mention of rules, while initially "strange," was ultimately understood and appreciated by a reviewer for maintaining order and a pleasant atmosphere. This indicates a well-managed campground that prioritizes a positive experience for all guests, even when dealing with varied clientele.
- RV Friendly (with considerations): The specific note about Class A RVs up to 42ft being able to fit confirms that while rustic, the campground is not exclusively for tenters and can accommodate larger recreational vehicles, broadening its appeal.
These features collectively define Riverbend Campground as a top-tier destination for affordable, authentic, and activity-rich outdoor recreation on the Rifle River for Michigan residents.

However, like many Michigan recreational businesses, there might be unadvertised or seasonal incentives that are best discovered by direct inquiry. While not guaranteed, potential offers could include:
- Group Rates: Given that the campground allows "everyone on one site," there might be special pricing for larger groups booking multiple river rentals or extended camping stays.
- Mid-Week Specials: To encourage visits during less busy periods, some campgrounds offer reduced rates for weekday camping or river trips.
- Off-Season Discounts: While the primary season for river activities is typically warmer months, early spring or late fall might see slight reductions in rates for camping or rentals.
- Package Deals: It's possible they offer bundled packages that combine camping nights with specific river trip lengths (e.g., a two-night stay with a four-hour canoe trip).

Customer Reviews
Always a great experience. Love how it feels more like outdoor camping versus like a KOA style. Great prices. Love that we can camp everyone on one site
After staying at River bend it was a very nice place. I would recommend them. This place has some rules at first was a little strange but after seeing intercity people I understand . Met some very friendly people here nice to see that . Clean place up keep is good . Staff very friendly inside . I see that they might have had some not very friendly clients that made them have these rules seeing the sign that says because in woods don’t mean act like animals, lol . FYI class A will fit at river if not over 42ft. All in all great place. .
We went there for the weekend and the lady I spoke to on the phone was great, I described the campsite we wanted and she hooked us up with the perfect spot right next to the river :) The campsite bathrooms were clean, shower was nice and warm. People who worked there were nice and tubing down the river was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy beautiful nature. It took us about 4 hours down the river and it was a blast! We highly recommend this trip for family, couples and friends. Great time!!!
The campsite was good size, but they charge a site fee and than $9 a person per night after the first 2 people. Plus they charge if someone comes to visit. When we arrived the campsite was covered in goose poop. The fire pit was basically a hole is the ground the metal ring was rotted away.
This was a nice place to stay in a pinch, however I would recommend continuing on to another campground if you have the time. The price was high, $60.00 for one standard tent site. The restrooms were mediocre and not very up to date, but they did not have a time limit on the showers and they were included in the price. There is also an active railway right next to the campground that was very noisy at night. Despite this the staff were friendly and very helpful. There is good access to the river with a boat/kayak launch. I would not stay here again due to the negatives, but if I did not have any other options it was a good place for 1 night.
