Mike and Cheryl here. We have a 44 foot Class A RV. Here is my review of Roan Mountain State Park Campground. Road to: Overall good, but a little narrow, twisty and hilly at times. Road inside: Mostly paved but they do have a few potholes. Trees: Could use some trimming. The trees over our site were touching the roof of our motorhome. Check in: Small size office right at entrance. Parking: Medium size parking area. Seasonal campers: No. Signage: good Site 48: Gravel pad, but level. Had table and fire pit. View: View of river from a distance. The river is beautiful even with the earlier flood. Site spacing: Good spacing. Bathhouse: Nice. Laundry room: Small. Swimming pool: None. Club house: No. Fitness area: No. Grounds: Good. TV: None. Wifi: Good. So here is the bad: 1) The river flooded during the hurricane. The grounds along the river was destroyed, but they are working on it. 2) The bridge to the upper campground was destroyed. 3) Trees need to be trimmed. Travel Far, Dream Big, Live Well...

I’m so excited to come back here it’s such a hidden gem!! We got a last minute first come first serve site, right on the creek. Very spacious and private sites, large enough for multiple cars. Water, grill, table, and fire pit all on the site. Multiple bathrooms as well with hot showers. The ranger was so friendly, and made us feel safe being there as well. We were able to buy bundles of wood from the ranger. This is was so peaceful and beautiful!

I recommend it with all my heart❤️ This is a beautiful and clean place in the wild. 15 minutes to Carvers Gap. Clean and warm toilets and showers. The parking lot has water, electricity and sewer. No more than two cars are allowed per parking lot. After 10 pm it's quiet. There is a table with a bench and a place for a fire, the grill as well. An armful of firewood costs $6 on site. 🍁Autumn is a great time to visit. 👆Don't forget warm clothes, these are real mountains with changeable weather.

What a treat it was to stay here for a couple of nights! Being campground hosts in NC, we appreciated the hospitality and how well taken care of the campground is. The Doe river and the Fred Behrend trail were wonderful. So many deer in the campground and surrounding area!
