I'm not sure if there are actually lights in the restrooms but the skylights are covered with leaves, making it pretty dark inside. If you're in the T loop, watch out for the spicy chestnuts

Fantastic views. We lived driving on the parkway and stopping at all the overlooks near our campground. It was also at least 15 degrees cooler than the Raleigh area where we drove up from. If you like to tent camp, I recommend the campgrounds, especially loop C, where generators are not allowed. If you RV, it seems like it would be a little tight to get one in, especially the larger ones. We saw some small trailers and pop ups that fit fine.

Went for a little day hike around the picnic loop trail. Resources were lacking at the visitors center, I actually had to drive across the road to the lookout in order to look at the big map prior to going hiking. Usually there are large trail maps at the head of every trail (elsewhere). Signage for the trail head is non existent, just yellow blaze on the trees. However the on trail marker for the other trail cutting off was perfectly clear however did not include the length/distance one should expect. Will definitely plan the 3 mile loop next time I’m in the area. It’s bear country, I’m a solo female hiker and felt very safe with bear spray and a whistle.

great overlooks and choice of trails. The 3-mile loop (blue blaze) is fairly easy and includes forests and mountain views with a very small stream crossing. The one-mile loop (yellow blaze) is a mild descent into the forest valley, 2 small stream crossings after it's rained (with stepping stones), across 2 meadows, and ends with an ascent back to the ranger station. The ranger station has maps and an NPS stamp.

Well-maintained and not usually heavily visited. Very nice mountainous picnic area with restrooms and plenty of interesting giant rocks all around. I highly recommend this place for family get-togethers!
