Introduction / Overview: Your Family-Oriented Camping Destination
For Connecticut families searching for a feature-rich, amenity-laden camping experience that bridges the gap between traditional tenting and full-service RV resorts, Salem Farms Campground LLC stands out as a top contender. Located on 157 beautiful acres in rural Salem, New London County, this family-owned and operated establishment has been dedicated to providing a pleasant camping experience since 1980.
Salem Farms is designed to keep the entire family engaged, offering a large number of recreational facilities and a robust calendar of planned activities. While it caters to all types of campers, from those in tents to those in large RVs (up to 60 feet), it particularly shines as a destination for weekend getaways and seasonal stays, prioritizing a fun, active, and community-driven atmosphere. It’s important for local users to note the difference between this private campground and a state-run facility; here, you’ll find convenience features like pools and a snack bar, though some services, such as sewer pump-outs, may be available for an extra fee or offered via a “honey wagon” service, as is common in many private parks.
Prospective campers should be aware that with a lively environment comes a need for clear rules. While the management has a long-standing reputation for being friendly and helpful, customer feedback sometimes highlights the strict enforcement of rules, which, while crucial for maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere, can be surprising to some long-term guests. Ultimately, Salem Farms is best suited for Connecticut locals who value a highly organized, active, and well-maintained camping community.

This central location in New London County ensures that Connecticut residents have a convenient base camp for a weekend of both relaxation and exploration. Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Connecticut Locals
Salem Farms Campground is perfectly suited for Connecticut residents who desire a complete family camping vacation experience without having to travel out of state. It provides the ideal mix of natural setting and resort-style amenities, making it a "staycation" hotspot. The emphasis on planned weekend activities—from pool parties to Bingo nights—is a huge draw for families with children who look for structured entertainment.
Furthermore, for local RV owners, the availability of 30/50 amp hookups, cable TV, on-site services, and attractive seasonal/back-to-back weekend rates makes it a cost-effective and convenient way to enjoy multiple escapes throughout the camping season. The proximity to regional gems like Mystic and Devil's Hopyard allows for easy day trips to diversify the vacation. While the campground's dedication to strict enforcement of rules—necessary for the peaceful coexistence of seasonal and transient campers—is a known factor, the general consensus points to a clean, well-maintained, and overall friendly environment. For the Connecticut family seeking a fun, amenity-packed, and highly social camping environment, Salem Farms Campground delivers a reliable and active base for summer memories.

It is a decent family-owned campground. We have experienced 3 power outages, but it wasn't the campgrounds fault. They do pickup your garbage, but not always. They do not offer sewer and you have to pay extra to get your system drained. The people are nice. I do wish they offered more events, it gets boring during the week when they dont offer anything. Overall, if you're looking for a place to stay for the weekend, I'd reccomend it, but for long-term, there are better options. If you like bingo, choose here.
Jul 21, 2025 · Landon Riley (Landon)Family/friend group (14 families in total) have come to this campground for 10+ years, booking 2-3 weekends in a row. This past weekend was 1 of the multiple weekend stays, a “Karen” fellow neighbor camper complained about an incident and one family is now banned from the campground for life. No warning, no conversation, no second chance! 10+ years of business and support and this is what was given in return!!!!! To top it all off waited to call hours after checkout for the weekend and family had to go back to the campground to pull everything out BUT the real tip of the iceberg all power to the campsite was turned off and there was a fridge full of food!!! Also turned the water off while emptying the black tank! Thanks a lot to the KAREN who can’t mind their own business!!!
May 18, 2025 · James Gordon jrUpdate: We went back for another stay in 2025. It was even better. The seasonal people here are really friendly and we joined in on several of the events the campground and seasonals put on. Was super quiet again, clean, pools are nice and also super clean. Used the laundry which was $2 per load, very reasonable and the machines were well maintained. Booked again for 2026. This is now one of our go to places every year. We work from the RV and the wifi on site 80 was really fast! 2024 stay: We called last minute and they were able to get us in for a week long stay. This is very much a seasonal site place, which would usually keep us from going to it, but we found the campers here to be very friendly and the seasonal sites are well maintained and not falling apart. It's extremely quiet at night, even on the weekends. They have two well maintained pools, and onsite food and ice cream place, (open on weekends), and nice camp store. Close to downtown. They had bingo and a band while we were there, both alot of fun. There is no sewer, but they have a very easy to get to dump station. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back!
Aug 12, 2025 · The Bates Motel RVOne of the BEST CT Family Campgrounds we have stayed at. Stayed 2+ weeks. Had to add on days and they did everything to accommodate us. Gated entry an ABSOLUTE plus. 2 pools, clean and not very crowded most times. Corey, Missy, Theresa, and Kyla were helpful with questions I had about Salem area hiking. I found great trails. The store has lots of last minute items I forgot... Marshmallows, Chocolate and Grahams (lol) plus so much more. Just an all around nice campground.
Jul 25, 2024 · Mara GouletWonderful place to stay. Our best vacation ever. We are new to campers and this place was wonderful you couldnt ask for friendlier people. I loved seeing all the kids on bikes with their friends. There was so much to do for everyone. You will not be disappointed staying here. The place is spotless. The owners take pride in their campground and it shows!!!! We cant wait to go back!!!!!
