Introduction / Overview
In the heart of Southeastern Connecticut lies SNA-Z SPOT Campground, a hidden gem that offers a truly authentic, peaceful, and traditionally rustic camping experience. Established in 1954 and proudly managed by the original family members for generations, SNA-Z SPOT is not your typical modern, "pull in, plug in" RV park. It is a time-honored sanctuary, celebrated by its loyal patrons for its commitment to nature, tranquility, and the spirit of 'real camping'—a place to truly unplug, relax, and create lasting, simple memories.
Located directly on the shores of the beautiful Gardner Lake, SNA-Z SPOT offers a wonderfully private and serene setting across its 97 acres. This campground has grown organically since the 1950s, primarily through word-of-mouth, fostering a strong sense of community among its many seasonal and returning guests. As one long-time patron affectionately put it, the focus here is on quiet enjoyment of nature, making new friends, and embracing the simple pleasures of the outdoors.
While the experience is intentionally rustic—reflecting a golden age of camping where imagination and kerosene lanterns were the norm—it provides a unique and valuable counterpoint to more commercialized venues. For Connecticut residents seeking an authentic, less structured retreat where the focus is on family time, peace, and the beauty of Gardner Lake, SNA-Z SPOT remains the most private and peaceful choice on the water. It is a genuine, low-key institution perfect for introducing grandchildren to the simple survival skills and joys of an unhurried summer.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For Connecticut residents, SNA-Z SPOT Campground represents a rare and precious find: a genuine, family-owned piece of New England history that has resisted the urge to modernize at the expense of its authentic character. It is supremely suitable for locals for several compelling reasons.
First, its location on Gardner Lake makes premium waterfront camping accessible without the long drive out of state. Second, for families who feel their children are too reliant on screens, SNA-Z SPOT provides the perfect environment for a much-needed digital detox—a place where survival skills and shadow puppets replace video games. It’s an opportunity to give children the kind of classic, wholesome summer experience one patron recalls from the 60s and 70s. Third, the dedication to peace and privacy, which sets it apart from larger, noisier campgrounds, ensures a truly relaxing retreat. By choosing SNA-Z SPOT, Connecticut locals are not just booking a campsite; they are stepping into a cherished family tradition, supporting a multi-generational local business, and securing a tranquil corner of Gardner Lake for quiet enjoyment and lasting, unplugged memories. It is a genuine piece of Connecticut's camping heritage, waiting to be shared with the next generation.

I grew up camping there from 1968 until 1986, I wouldn't trade those years for anything in the World❣️ Yes, it's rustic but face it it's real camping, not a pull in plug in place. As kids we used our imaginations. My mother would even put the headlights of her car on a storage building across the side road and would teach us Shadow Puppets. If you wanted power for certain times we had a car battery to hook up and give us lights in the camper. We used old kerosene lanterns. I wish I had them now. Back then the owners were Helen and her Pete and I think it was her sister had the liquor store and shop before Gondon's Store, They were really nice people. They used to have a Democratic Party down near the lake every year. It was in mid August around my birhhday on the 19th. It was awesome. Everyone in the campground was invited! I think it was Then their was Leece's meats and restaurant/ sub shop. I have more wonderful memories there and would love to bring my granddaughter there for a summer!!! I remember the owners daughters riding the horses and letting them cool off in the lake. We were there from the day school got out until maybe 5 days before school started. I would love to know if they ARE OPEN, and if anybody rentts their camper out for the summer? I live in SC now but it would be well worth the trip. I don't need to spend goobs of money in Myrtle Beach or Charleston. I would rather give my granddaughter an experience she won't forget, besides learning a few survsl skills! It might come in handy in the future, and won't,t hurt her that's for sure. UNPLUG PEOPLE and truly relax❣️

Feb 04, 2015 · Sue CoffeeThis campground is CLOSING - they need to renovate and update and owners refuse to comply. Many campers from many generations hve camped their for 40-50years and now need to remove their campers and leave.
Jun 28, 2015 · Dee CeeWe had a fun day with friends. It was nice being somewhere in 4th of July that was not crowded. I wish they had electricity and running water though.
