We camp here, usually, twice a year. Very nice and quiet. It's a great place to go to get away from the city. It's very peaceful. I listened to the owls and coyotes at night. Very cool. The closest town is Toronto. Not much there. You drive about 12 miles to Yates Center for the things you need. We love it. Great fishing, as well. Lot of Crappie.
4/13/24 Awesome. Just Awesome! Bring your boat and your bike. I'm sure this place is hopping in Summer but I had the whole place to myself on a beautiful 75° April day. 58 Prime was the only spot that had true shore access for the boat but what a spot it was. Killer views, a perfectly placed fire pit, nice table, nearby bathrooms that were spotless, it was just too sweet. The NW side of the lake and River is for shallow water boats only, and the hike/bike trail if I'm being honest wasn't very bike friendly if you're an old fat biker like me. Luckily the paths are exceptional and you can cruise into the town of Toronto if you're so inclined. Only negative of this trip was that it was only one night!
Camped out here to see the meteor showers happening this month at night. One of the darkest places in KS (without going super far out west) and could see the milky way. The park seems well maintained, but at least for sandstone despite what the map says there are no modern toilets/showers. The building was taken out and replaced with a covered picnic area. There are still pit toilets though. If you're counting on showers and running water, don't (as a tent camper).
Really enjoyed my time out here as I was passing through. The lake is great, the hiking trails are nice, fishing was pretty good, and the sunset was incredible. This is a great campground with lots of options to choose from. I camped on the west side with a great site overlooking the water.
A day of cycling the TransAmerica tour I’ve made it here. Primitive camping. Shade is everywhere. Not bad on bugs and flies. Visual lake. Bathrooms/showers were decent. Didn’t see any trash bins or water wells.
