Schomberg County Park Campground prides itself on its clean facilities, including "clean bathrooms" and a "nice shower," ensuring a comfortable stay even in the rustic setting of a county park. While it might not boast a playground, this very fact contributes to its reputation as a "quiet" haven, free from the sounds of "screaming kids." Instead, visitors can enjoy the calming ambiance, the "nice open grassy area around the pavilion," and the direct connection to the expansive trail system that makes this campground a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts.

Whether you're an ATV or UTV rider eager to hit the trails, or simply someone yearning for a peaceful retreat in nature, Schomberg County Park Campground provides a welcoming and impeccably cared-for basecamp. Its "big rig friendly" sites and convenient amenities, combined with the natural beauty of the surrounding area, make it a highly recommended choice for a memorable Wisconsin camping experience. Schomberg County Park Campground boasts an excellent location that is both accessible and perfectly positioned for outdoor enthusiasts. You'll find this quiet retreat at Shomberg Park Rd, Hurley, WI 54534, USA. This address places it squarely within Iron County, a region renowned for its dense forests, pristine lakes, and extensive recreational trail systems.

The accessibility of the campground is a key highlight, particularly for those looking to maximize their time on the trails. It is "right on the trail," providing direct, effortless access for ATV and UTV riders. This eliminates the need for trailering your machines long distances once you’ve arrived, making it incredibly convenient for off-road adventures. For visitors arriving by RV, the campground is noted as "big rig friendly," suggesting easy maneuverability and spacious sites, even for larger vehicles.

While located in a serene, natural setting, Hurley, WI, offers nearby amenities for stocking up on supplies. One review specifically mentions having to "run down to Wal-Mart" for a power adapter, indicating that essential shopping is within a reasonable driving distance. This balance of secluded natural beauty with practical access to town services makes Schomberg County Park Campground an ideal base for extended stays or quick weekend getaways.

The surrounding area is a gateway to the vast trail networks of northern Wisconsin, which are particularly popular during the warmer months for ATV/UTV riding and in winter for snowmobiling. While some "closed trails" were noted when trying to go north, the recommendation to "going west on the trail system" highlights the extensive options available right from your campsite. This prime location allows campers to immediately immerse themselves in the region's top outdoor activities, whether it's exploring forest roads, enjoying scenic vistas, or simply taking in the peaceful ambiance of the Northwoods.

Schomberg County Park Campground offers a focused selection of services designed to provide a comfortable and convenient camping experience, particularly for those who value cleanliness and trail access.

  • Campsites with Power Hookups: The campground provides campsites equipped with electrical hookups. While one visitor noted an instance where a site advertised 30/50A but was only 50A, requiring an adapter, this indicates that power is generally available to support RVs and other electrical needs. Campers should be prepared with appropriate adapters for various power configurations.

  • Clean Restrooms: A standout feature consistently praised by visitors are the "clean bathrooms." This is a significant convenience that enhances the overall camping experience, ensuring a pleasant and hygienic environment.

  • Hot Showers: The campground offers showers for guest use. While they are "pay showers," the cost is very reasonable at "only $1 for 5 minutes," providing access to hot water and cleanliness after a day of outdoor activities.

  • ATV Wash Station: For motorized trail users, a dedicated "atv wash station was great for getting the red soil off our machines." This invaluable service helps keep vehicles clean and prevents tracking dirt into campsites.

  • Beautiful Pavilion: A "beautiful pavilion" is available, providing a communal gathering space. This open, "grassy area around the pavilion" suggests it's ideal for relaxed get-togethers, picnics, or simply enjoying the outdoors under cover.

  • Direct Trail Access: A major service is the direct connection to the local trail system. Being "right on the trail" allows campers to easily access ATV, UTV, and potentially hiking or biking trails directly from their site, maximizing time spent exploring.

It's worth noting that while cell service (specifically Verizon) might be limited, as one reviewer mentioned "Verizon cell service is 0," the campground facilitates a truly disconnected experience, encouraging visitors to embrace the peace of nature. For those needing connectivity, bringing a personal WiFi solution like a "Skylink" (Starlink) is a recommended workaround, as demonstrated by previous guests. The focus here is clearly on well-maintained essential facilities that support an active outdoor lifestyle in a serene setting.

Schomberg County Park Campground distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that contribute to its appeal, particularly for its target audience.

  • Quiet, Adult-Friendly Atmosphere: One of the most consistently praised aspects is its "very nice, quiet little campground" ambiance. This is explicitly tied to the absence of a "playground for kids," which, while a consideration for families, means "also no screaming kids." This makes it an ideal retreat for adults, couples, and groups seeking a peaceful and uninterrupted natural experience.

  • Immaculate Facilities: The "clean bathrooms" and "nice shower" are frequently highlighted. The high level of cleanliness and care given to these essential amenities greatly enhances the comfort of visitors, a significant plus for any campground. The "pay showers" are affordable at "only $1 for 5 minutes," providing excellent value for hot water.

  • Direct Access to Premier Trail System: A major draw for many is the campground’s location "right on the trail." This direct access to extensive ATV/UTV trails is incredibly convenient for motorized recreation enthusiasts, allowing them to explore the vast network of Iron County without having to trailer their machines to a trailhead. The presence of an "atv wash station" further supports this activity.

  • "Big Rig Friendly" Sites: For RVers with larger vehicles, the designation as "big rig friendly" is a significant advantage. This ensures that larger campers and motorhomes can comfortably access and maneuver within the campground, finding suitable sites.

  • Beautiful Pavilion and Grassy Area: The "beautiful pavilion" surrounded by a "nice open grassy area" provides a wonderful communal space. It’s perfect for gathering, enjoying meals outdoors, or simply relaxing in a pleasant, open environment, sheltered from the elements.

  • Serene Natural Setting: The overall environment offers a true escape into Wisconsin's Northwoods. While not specifically detailed in the reviews, the implication of a quiet, small campground in Hurley is one of natural beauty, perfect for unwinding and enjoying the outdoors.

  • Return Visitor Approval: The emphatic statement, "We loved this little place and we will be back!" speaks volumes about the positive experience and high satisfaction levels of previous guests, indicating a campground that consistently meets expectations.

Based on the provided customer reviews and information, there are no specific, publicly advertised "Promotions or Special Offers" for Schomberg County Park Campground. This is often the case with county-run parks or smaller, more focused campgrounds that operate on a consistent pricing structure rather than frequent promotional campaigns.

However, for those planning a visit, it's always a good practice to:

  • Inquire Directly: Contacting the Iron County Parks Department (or whichever county entity manages Schomberg County Park Campground) directly via phone is the best way to ask about current rates, reservation policies, and any potential group discounts or seasonal offers that might not be widely publicized.

  • Check for Off-Peak Season Rates: Sometimes, campgrounds may offer slightly reduced rates or have greater availability during off-peak seasons (e.g., early spring or late fall, outside of major holidays). While not a formal "promotion," it can result in a more affordable and often quieter stay.

  • Look for Extended Stay Discounts: For longer trips, some campgrounds may offer weekly or monthly rates that provide a discount compared to nightly rates. This is worth asking about if you plan an extended stay.

The value of Schomberg County Park Campground largely comes from its excellent location, clean facilities, and peaceful atmosphere at what is likely a reasonable county park rate, rather than through complex discount programs. Its appeal lies in its consistent quality and suitability for specific types of campers.

Very nice, quiet little campground. Beautiful pavilion. Great location right on the trail. Clean bathrooms. Nice shower. It says "pay showers", but it's only $1 for 5 minutes! No playground for kids, but also no screaming kids. Nice open grassy area around the pavilion. We loved this little place and we will be back! ....but we will bring our 30A to 50A dog bone power adaptor. Site said 30/50A but was only 50A. We had to run down to Wal-Mart to get the proper adaptor. But other than that we had a very enjoyable stay!!

Quiet small campground. The bathrooms here extremely well cared for. Verizon cell service is 0. We used our skylink for WiFi. We were glad we brought it. We recommend going west on the trail system. We tried going north but there were a lot of closed trails. It’s a great campground for those without kids. There’s not any kid friendly amenities. The atv wash station was great for getting the red soil off our machines. Highly recommended wearing clothes you don’t care about on the trails. Overall this campground was perfect. Big rig friendly!

Very nice quiet campground with trail access directly from it. Must reserve online. Inside the restrooms were coin operated showers. Coin operated pressure washer to wash ATV/SXS at end of day on site.

CLEANEST campground bathroom I’ve ever visited!! Once you are about 20 minutes north of Minocqua, if nature calls, pray you can make it another few miles to this campground! I stopped out of need but stayed and took a walk around to stretch my legs after 4 hours of driving. The grounds and bathrooms (with showers and flush toilets) are well kept. If you plan on camping, it looked as if all spots, especially those with power hookups, were reserved (mid-May visit) so I recommend booking online far in advance.

A pretty place to camp. Very clean and well maintained. Sites are mostly level, paved. Had to make reservations online, but even on the weekend, there were a few spaces available. Bathhouses were spotless. They even have an ATV wash area. Full dump station too. All sites are electric only, but there are potable threaded water spigots in the park.
