  • Abundant Shade: Being an "older" campground often translates to more mature trees, which provide excellent natural shade over many of the sites. This is a significant advantage during sunny Kansas days, offering a cooler and more comfortable camping experience.

Promotions or Special Offers

As part of Hillsdale State Park, Scott Creek Campground's pricing and any potential "special offers" are generally managed by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT). Specific, short-term promotional deals on individual campsites are not commonly advertised directly for state park campgrounds, as they typically operate on a standardized fee schedule. However, there are general ways for campers to save or benefit from their visits:

  • Kansas State Park Vehicle Permit: A State Park Vehicle Permit is required for entry into Kansas State Parks, in addition to camping fees. Purchasing an annual permit can be a cost-effective choice for frequent visitors to Hillsdale Lake or other Kansas State Parks.

  • Off-Season Rates: While not a discount, camping fees for state parks are sometimes lower during the off-peak seasons (typically fall, winter, and early spring) due to reduced demand and potentially limited services. It's always worth checking seasonal rates.

  • Reservations: While not a promotion, the ability to make reservations through ReserveAmerica.com (up to 2 days in advance) ensures you secure a spot, especially a desirable lakeside or shaded one, preventing disappointment upon arrival.

For the most accurate and current information on camping fees, permit requirements, and any specific group rates or potential offers, it is highly recommended to:

  • Visit the official KDWPT website for Hillsdale State Park (ksoutdoors.com/State-Parks/Locations/Hillsdale).

  • Check the ReserveAmerica.com platform directly for Scott Creek Campground to view available dates and pricing.

  • Contact the Hillsdale State Park office directly using the phone number provided in the contact section.

It's older than some of the other sites, but if you get a spot next to the lake you can easily carry a kayak to the water. Older also means more shade (electric and water, no sewer hookups). Sites include a fire pit and picnic table. Gravel pads. Bring bug spray.

We prefer the views at Pintail Point, but this is a very close second. For kayaking, this is the absolute calmest part of Hillsdale. The campground is very well graded, sites are grassy and large, there is a nice playground and four large showers. Some sites have access to the water. Great for families and group camping. Mixture of tents and RVs. All sites have water and 50/30 amp.

We have stayed in the RV part twice so far. We really have enjoyed both our visits. The RV sites are very spacious and we'll maintained. Very satisfied with our RV experience. I will say our RV is self contained so we did not need a free standing bathroom. I did notice in the other camp grounds down from us that they did not have sewer hook ups and the bathroom was pretty run down looking, so very thankful we didn't stay over there. We did go down to the beach area once and it's just ok. Need more maintain in that area. Noted a lot of trash on the ground and picnic tables are in poor condition. It could be a very nice area if it was properly kept up.

Like other reviewers, the lack of showers & flush toilets is a drawback. If your camper is self contained, then it's a non issue. The toilet offers no privacy but it's not like you want to spend any extra time in there. We liked the proximity to the marina and there is a decent amount of shade. We will definitely be back.
