Introduction / Overview
For generations of Maine residents, the Lakes Region—and Sebago Lake in particular—has been the quintessential summer destination. It’s where the best memories are made: the smell of pine and campfire smoke, the sound of the lake lapping the shore, and the simple joy of an extended family gathering. Sebago Lake Family Campground, nestled among the tall pines of Standish, ME, offers a classic, authentic slice of this cherished experience. This is not a massive, commercialized resort, but a true, family-oriented haven that centers on the natural beauty of one of Maine’s largest and most famous bodies of water.
Sebago Lake Family Campground has cultivated a reputation as a welcoming, small-scale escape. With approximately 101 campsites and a selection of eight rustic rental cottages, the focus here is squarely on the genuine camping experience and the unparalleled lake access. The primary draw—and the element that keeps Maine families returning year after year—is the magnificent, private 600-foot sandy beach on Sebago Lake. This exclusive beach access transforms a simple camping trip into a proper waterfront vacation, offering residents the chance to swim, sunbathe, and play in the clean, refreshing water of the lake without the crowds of public access points.
Visitors consistently praise the warm, friendly demeanor of the owners, who are known for their welcoming nature and responsiveness to guest needs. While reviews sometimes note that the facilities, particularly the bathhouses, reflect a more traditional, rustic campground feel and could benefit from maintenance, the dedication of the staff to making guests feel at home is a highlight. For Mainers looking to escape the bustle and connect with the state's natural beauty in a place defined by hospitality, Sebago Lake Family Campground provides a reliable and time-tested option.
The experience here is designed for families looking for quiet enjoyment and outdoor activity. The campground is open seasonally, welcoming guests from May 1st through the Columbus Day holiday, perfectly capturing the best of the Maine summer and autumn camping seasons. Whether you are pitching a tent, rolling in with a modern RV, or settling into a cozy cottage, this location promises a return to the simple pleasures of a Maine lakefront holiday.
Location and Accessibility
The campground's address is 1550 Richville Rd, Standish, ME 04084, a location that is both conveniently accessible and appropriately secluded for a proper escape. Standish sits on the western edge of Sebago Lake, placing the campground within the heart of the Lakes Region.
For local Maine users, the accessibility is excellent. The campground is less than an hour's drive from the state’s largest city, Portland, making it a perfect spot for southern and central Mainers seeking a quick weekend retreat without a major travel commitment. It’s located just off the main regional routes, ensuring that arrivals and departures are straightforward. Despite its ease of access, the campground is cleverly tucked away in the pine woods, maintaining a sense of privacy and peacefulness necessary for a relaxing vacation.
Furthermore, the location is surprisingly convenient for necessities and classic Maine treats. Reviews confirm that a great local restaurant, bar, and convenience store are all within easy walking distance—a significant bonus for campers looking for a night off cooking or a quick resupply. For a truly authentic Maine culinary experience, a short drive opens up opportunities to pick up fresh steamed Maine lobsters or grab a cone of ice cream, confirming this location as an ideal base for both lakeside relaxation and regional exploration.

Nice family campground with a gorgeous lake and excellent beach! The beach is the real selling point! We keep going back every year! Cabins are rustic I go in with the expectation that this is camping i always bring a mattress pad and fans and we don’t spend much time in the cabin gave 4 stars instead of 5 only because the bathroom could use some maintenance but we always appreciated a nice hot shower! Owners are so nice and friendly they are always so welcoming and quick to take care of any issue. We also love that there is a great restaurant/bar and convenience store walking distance! Short drive to pick up fresh steamed Maine Lobsters or to go out for ice cream!
Jul 05, 2025 · Rachael MontanezIt is nice but the bathroom really needs fixing and cleaning. Other than that the beaches we're fantastic and the woman working there was super nice. We stayed four nights and it it was $200 in total in our campsite didn't have a grill but they had it back up. We had a good stay.
Jul 09, 2025 · Jack StrongDon't show up after hours, no admittance or on-site help. Evident that the place is slowing down and running down. Minimal maintenance. Great location but unknown anemities and services, appears to be minimally staffed.
Aug 13, 2025 · Kelly MortonThis is the cleanest beach ever. Great scenery and never crowded. Just the absolute best time for relaxing no matter what age you are. Just great
Jul 02, 2025 · Bub CrabtreeCampground doesn’t enforce any rules especially quiet time. Campers were loud and rude well past midnight. Bathrooms are not clean. Worst campground I’ve ever been too.
