Shady Oaks Campground is conveniently located at 440 SW 3rd St, Otter Creek, FL 32683, USA. This address places it in the charming, unincorporated community of Otter Creek, situated within Levy County in North Central Florida. While Otter Creek itself is a smaller locale, the campground's position offers excellent accessibility to both tranquil natural areas and popular Gulf Coast destinations.

The campground is just a short drive from U.S. Route 19/98, a major north-south highway that traverses much of Florida's Gulf Coast. This arterial road makes it easy for travelers coming from various parts of Florida or neighboring states to reach Shady Oaks. Its proximity to such a significant route means less time navigating complex local roads and more time enjoying your destination.

Otter Creek's location provides a strategic base for exploring the diverse offerings of Levy County and beyond. Just a stone's throw away (approximately a 15-20 minute drive) is the historic and picturesque town of Cedar Key. This charming island community, famous for its fresh seafood, art galleries, and vibrant history, is a must-visit for many campers in the area. Cedar Key offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking, birdwatching, and enjoying stunning Gulf sunsets.

For nature enthusiasts, the surrounding area is rich with outdoor opportunities. The nearby Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve and the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge offer extensive trails for hiking and wildlife viewing, particularly birdwatching. The tranquil waters of the Gulf are ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding, allowing visitors to explore the unique estuarine ecosystems. Even closer to the campground, the local area maintains a peaceful, rural atmosphere, providing ample opportunities for quiet walks and enjoying the natural Florida landscape. Despite its serene setting, essential services such as small local stores and gas stations are available within a reasonable driving distance in Otter Creek or neighboring towns, ensuring convenience for campers. The easy access and proximity to both natural wonders and charming coastal towns make Shady Oaks Campground a highly accessible and desirable location for a Florida camping trip.

The best way to discover any potential promotions or special rates is to contact Shady Oaks Campground directly. A phone call allows you to speak with the friendly family who manages the park, inquire about availability, and ask about any current deals they might be running. Needed a spot to overnight. Called with 1hr notice and they were able to get me checked in that evening. Host met me at the gate and took me to my spot, showed me the hookups. Small & quiet, tucked away. Easy access in & out. Glad I stopped here and found camp for future trips through the area.

We recently stayed at Shady Oaks and enjoyed our stay. We were looking for a nice quiet place to spend the evening, and we got exactly that. The campground was not far from the main highway, but it was secluded and very quiet and peaceful. We stayed in one of the cabins available; it was very nice. Solid construction, a/c and heat, a trundle bed, and portable toilet... everything was clean and well maintained. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We definitely recommend Shady Oaks for anyone camping!

As of March 2024 the website failed to mention there's no restroom or shower facility (a personal deal breaker). The dirt road has such poor rainwater drainage the host saw fit to offer guidance on navigating through. On the plus side, the camping fee is competitive with state parks, and the host is accommodating (I was unable to stay, and my pre-pmt was refunded).
