For RV owners in the Missouri region, finding an accessible and well-located base camp is crucial, whether you are stopping for a night or planning an extended stay to explore the Kansas City Metro area.
Stadium Park & Campground in Independence, MO, is a well-known, if sometimes debated, option that has secured a notable position on US Highway 40, offering a highly practical location for local travelers and those passing through the Heartland. It is important for local users to understand what this park offers: primarily, it is a convenient parking solution near major city attractions, focusing heavily on location and accessibility.
The name itself, Stadium Park, is a direct nod to its primary draw for many Missourians—its proximity to the heart of the Kansas City sports complex. This park positions itself not as a luxury resort campground, but as a practical, easy-in, easy-out parking facility that serves as a launchpad for everything the metro area has to offer, from sporting events to historical sites. Local RV enthusiasts looking for a no-frills, secure place to park their rig while enjoying a weekend Chiefs or Royals game will find the location hard to beat.
However, local customers, particularly those who are regular RV travelers, should note that Stadium Park & Campground receives varied customer feedback. While appreciated for its convenience, a number of reviews point out that the park is utilized mostly by long-term residents and that the maintenance of common facilities, such as the restrooms and laundry room, has been described as "less than desirable" and "terrible." Potential guests are advised to set expectations for a utilitarian parking solution rather than a typical vacation campground experience and to come fully self-contained if possible.
The true value proposition of Stadium Park & Campground lies in its central location and exceptional accessibility within the Greater Kansas City area. Located at 10021 E US Hwy 40, Independence, MO 64055, the park sits just about a mile from Interstate 70 (I-70), the main East-West corridor that connects St. Louis to Kansas City. This makes it an ideal stop for Missouri residents traveling across the state or for locals who want to park their RV close to the action without driving far into the city.
Its proximity to US-40 ensures an easy and quick access point for even the largest of rigs. For locals, the primary benefit is the nearly instantaneous connection to some of the area's top draws. The RV park is just minutes away from the Truman Home and Library in Independence, and provides a direct route to the stadiums. Nearby businesses and amenities are plentiful, with quick access to a Walmart Super Center, QuikTrip, Lowe's, and various dining options like Applebee's and IHOP, minimizing the need for long trips for supplies. For short-term visitors, the convenience of the location allows for more time spent enjoying the attractions and less time navigating local traffic.
Stadium Park & Campground provides the essential hookups and basic infrastructure necessary for both short-term overnight stays and extended residency. The services focus on utility and security.
Full Hookup Sites: The park offers sites equipped with sewer and water hookups, essential for any comfortable RV stay.
Electric Service: Sites provide electric hookups, advertised as offering 30-amp and 50-amp service. However, customers should be aware that some reviews have raised concerns about the consistency and reliability of the electrical supply.
Perimeter Fencing: For added security, the facility is enclosed with perimeter fencing, a necessary feature for many RV owners when parking in a metropolitan area.
On-Site Management: A resident manager is available on the property, providing a contact point for arrivals and security concerns, though managerial responsiveness is subject to highly varied customer feedback.
Basic Amenities: The park reportedly offers facilities like a laundry room and restrooms/showers. Prospective guests should note the critical customer feedback regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of these communal areas, suggesting self-sufficiency is advisable.
The key features of Stadium Park & Campground are entirely centered around its strategic location within the Kansas City Metro area. These highlights are highly valuable for local Missouri residents looking for convenience over elaborate recreational facilities.
Unmatched Sports Proximity: As the name suggests, the park is ideally situated for easy access to the Kansas City sports complexes, including Kauffman Stadium (Royals) and Arrowhead Stadium (Chiefs). This feature alone makes it a top consideration during sports seasons.
Quick Access to Kansas City Attractions: The park is only about a 10-minute drive from downtown Kansas City, providing local access to the Power and Light District, Crown Center, the Kansas City Zoo, and museums without the hassle of navigating deep city traffic with a large RV.
Gateway to Independence History: The proximity to historic Independence Square, the Truman Home, and the Truman Library and Museum allows local history buffs to immerse themselves in Missouri’s rich presidential history.
Convenient Freeway Access: Being right off US-40 and minutes from I-70 makes it an extremely efficient stop for travelers on a long haul across Missouri, eliminating time wasted on backroads.
Support for Long-Term Parking: The park's model accommodates extended stays, making it a viable option for local construction workers, seasonal employees, or those needing temporary housing in the Kansas City area.
For reservations, current pricing, and specific inquiries regarding the status of facilities, prospective campers are advised to reach out directly to the park management.

Stadium Park & Campground serves a very specific niche in the Missouri RV community: the pragmatic traveler who prioritizes location, security, and utility over luxury amenities and manicured grounds. For local Kansas City-area residents, this RV park is a strategic choice for several reasons. It is the perfect, geographically convenient spot to park a rig for a weekend of Chiefs football, to attend a major event at the stadiums, or to serve as temporary, secure housing for local work commitments in the Independence or KCMO region.
While a number of customer reviews have highlighted concerns over poor maintenance, alleged management issues, and unreliable electric service—issues that a conscientious local should be fully prepared for—the park’s unassailable advantage remains its location. In a dense metropolitan area, a secured, full-hookup site just a mile from I-70 and minutes from major landmarks is a valuable asset. Missouri locals who are self-sufficient in their RVs and primarily need a secure, convenient "base camp" will find Stadium Park & Campground fulfills that fundamental requirement. Visitors are encouraged to manage their expectations and verify all essential services, especially power consistency, upon arrival to ensure a smooth, if basic, stay.

Convenient location for our needs. Mostly permanent residents. Manager was pleasant and helpful but the facilities (restroom and shower) was less than desirable. Only used the toilet for urinating. Definitely did not want to sit for other business. Will seek a different location on our next trip out west.
Aug 20, 2023 · Mid Ohio Organized Disc GolfAbsolutely terrible! First of all, their prices are way too high for what they offer. I've stayed at much nicer parks and paid less. This place has had nothing done to it as far as maintenance. They claim they have had work done for improvement but it's all lies. 30 amp service.. .you are lucky to get 20 amps out of it. The manager has no clue as to the meaning of manager. She is beyond lazy yet claims she works all the time. Obviously not cleaning the laundry room or restrooms. And to top it off the manager is a chronic and habitual liar. The electric going to the RV sites is in such disrepair I am surprised nothing has caught fire yet. In the last week a 200 amp fuse has blown out leaving a good majority of the park without electricity for hours. And as usual, the manager has no clue and no spare fuses. I truly believe that the owner needs to bring someone in as manager that KNOWS what they are doing. I would have given less than one star if possible. Stay anywhere you want but please don't stay here. It is horrible. I just read through all of the reviews and noticed some interesting reviews. One of the reviews was from the owner (Roberto Munoz) and two other glowing reviews from the manager and her daughter. It looks like the stoop to these tactics to create the image of a nice RV park. Please don't fall for it.
Dec 20, 2024 · Steven RichardsI stayed here for approximately 10 months. I only used the bathroom facilities maybe twice in the whole time cuz they were either broke or disgusting. It takes forever to get to be able to use the laundry facilities as in days. The manager was not professional at all. She complained daily about the black mold in the office killing her, her hip, general health and people breaking into her trailer stealing her things. She constantly gossiped about other employees and residents about their personal business. I came home one night and she had dug plants out of the side yard right outside my door and left big holes. Called and sent text in middle of the night that didn't make sense. Constantly asking me to borrow things and help her do things around the park but never compensated me or returned borrowed things. Potholes everywhere. Would not recommend anyone ever stay here.
Mar 28, 2024 · christina wilsonGreat for a two night stay. Met our needs perfectly. Manager was a super nice and very accommodating lady.Im giving this a 5 because of her. The park itself has a lot of long termers and some have piled up junk and trash. Owner needs to clean up the park and facilities.
