Bitely, while a smaller locale, is accessible via state and county roads, making the campground a feasible destination for weekend trips or longer stays from various parts of Michigan. The approach to the campground leads you into a more remote and natural setting, which is precisely what many campers seek for an authentic outdoor experience.
It's important for visitors to note that while the campground offers a sense of seclusion, some campsites are "closer to Cleaveland Dr. West," which can introduce "noisy from the cars and trucks, especially in the nights." However, reviews also clarify that "this road is not crazy busy," suggesting that while some ambient road noise might be present, it's generally not overwhelming. For those prioritizing absolute quiet, seeking out specific campsites "closer to the walkup lake farther from the road" (such as sites #1, #2, or #3) by arriving early could be beneficial. This balance of being accessible yet providing a true forest and lake experience makes Walkup Lake Campground a practical and appealing choice for Michiganders looking for a convenient natural escape. The journey itself offers a gentle transition from everyday life to the tranquility of Michigan’s beautiful woodlands.

Customer Reviews
We really loved this campground. A few of the campsites are closer to Cleaveland Dr. West, which can get noisy from the cars and trucks, especially in the nights, however this road is not crazy busy. If you can get there early, a few campsites (#1, #2, #3) are closer to the walkup lake farther from the road. We really enjoyed the hikes, beautiful wooded forest and the trails goes around some beautiful lakes. Vaulted restroom was clean. They had a note on the door saying that it was cleaned and sanitized twice a week.
We stayed Thursday through Sunday in August. There are several sites up near the entrance, three sites down closer to the lake, and two sites near the boat launch. A couple of days and nights there were rowdy campers at the upper level. There is a fair amount of road noise off and on . One camper that was doing some fishing said it caught 22 bluegills. The vault toilet was clean.
Not a ton of hiking options, but this was a cozy little campground. It was open later in the season than the other campgrounds around it, so it worked perfectly for fall camping. The trees are beautiful in the fall. It's got a vault toilet also, which was a huge plus.
People trash this camp ground, they use the woods as a toilet because the camping spots are too far away from the bathrooms. They shouldn't be able to camp at the end campsites unless they have a self-contained unit. All campers should clean up their sites when they leave because there is no host to police the place they don't take care of the sites. We spent an hour just raking & cleaning up the last site in the campground. The area rules are not followed by the majority of campers & the trash is just thrown in a pile next to the bathrooms. We have a self-contained RV, I don't ever use the bathrooms, so I don't know how they are. I wasn't impressed with the fishing there either. We only stayed 4 days and left for another campground.
Seems a very nice campground. Albeit, it was not very busy. Which made the experience much more pleasant as we crave isolation in our camping experience. Also, having a boat ramp for the lake was a major plus. Bathrooms were not bad either.
