As a state park campground managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), specific promotional discounts are typically standardized across the state park system rather than unique to Waubonsie State Park alone. To inquire about any current promotions or special offers, it is always best to check the official Iowa DNR State Parks website or contact the park office directly. However, common types of offerings you might find include:
- Off-Season Rates: During the non-peak camping season (typically November through March), rates for campsites might be lower, and sometimes reservations are walk-in only during these months due to unpredictable winter weather.
- Extended Stay Limitations: While not a discount, state parks often have policies limiting consecutive stays (e.g., 14 nights), which can indirectly encourage shorter, more frequent visits or ensure availability for more campers.
- Online Reservation Fee Structure: There is a reservation fee for booking campsites and cabins online ($4.50 per transaction) or through the call center ($6 per transaction).
- ADA Accessible Sites: While not a promotion, accessible sites are available, ensuring equitable access to camping experiences.
- Minimum Stay Requirements: During peak season (May 1 – October 31), a two-night minimum stay is usually required for weekend bookings (Friday/Saturday). Three-night minimums apply for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, and sometimes for the 4th of July if it falls on a Monday.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any specific offers, it is highly recommended to visit the Iowa DNR State Parks reservation website (reserveamerica.com/explore/waubonsie-state-park) or call the park office directly using the provided contact numbers.

Customer Reviews
Had an excellent time! It's quiet, the bathroom is clean, saw Orioles, and it's a beautiful park! The only thing that might deter one is the raccoons make noise opening trash bins all night! Once you know it's them and you keep your site tidy, it's enjoyable!!
Miles of trails. Most are well kept. Spacious tent camping. RV area available. Cabins available. Wood on site for purchase. Nice shower house. Disc golf.
I liked the campground here. Lots of shade trees. Bathrooms were clean and looked cared after. Seemed to be lots of raccoons at night getting into the dumpsters though, which is too bad to have the wildlife keyed in on that. Enjoyed the hiking trails as well.
Nice and quiet camping spot. RV spots are gravel, so not exactly level. But it was very quiet and nestled back in the woods. Nice little jewel in the Loess hills.
Waubonsie is a fantastic campground, showerhouse, views, and all the trails you need. We camp here every year and we love it
