Unlike public campgrounds that cater to short-term stays, White Lake Campground specializes in providing seasonal sites, allowing campers to establish a semi-permanent home away from home throughout the warmer months. This approach fosters a strong sense of community among its residents, many of whom return year after year, and creates a peaceful atmosphere for those who truly appreciate a quiet lakeside retreat.
Nestled by the beautiful White Lake, this campground is particularly appealing to experienced boaters, offering the invaluable convenience of on-site boat slips with direct lake access. It’s a hidden gem in Oakland County, a place where you can camp and boat all in one spot, a rare find in the region. While it operates under specific guidelines, such as its seasonal nature and a no-dog policy, these rules contribute to the generally serene and well-maintained environment that many residents cherish. This overview will delve into the specifics of what makes White Lake Campground a compelling choice for Michigan residents looking for a dedicated seasonal escape on the water.
White Lake Campground is conveniently located in White Lake, MI 48383, USA. This prime address places the campground within the heart of White Lake Township in Oakland County, Michigan. White Lake is a picturesque area renowned for its abundant lakes, natural beauty, and a blend of serene surroundings with practical accessibility to essential amenities and larger metropolitan areas.
The campground's location offers direct access to White Lake, a significant advantage for boating enthusiasts. While not directly on a major interstate, White Lake Township is well-connected to main thoroughfares. M-59 (Highland Road), a key east-west corridor, is easily accessible, providing direct routes to nearby cities like Waterford, Pontiac, and connecting to the broader metro Detroit area. This makes the campground a feasible destination for seasonal campers residing in various parts of southeastern Michigan. Additionally, major highways such as US-23 and I-96 are within a reasonable driving distance, facilitating travel for those coming from further afield in the state.
Beyond its excellent water and road access, White Lake's environment is a significant draw. The township is dotted with numerous lakes, offering extensive opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and various other water sports. Nearby state parks and recreation areas, including Highland Recreation Area and Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, provide miles of trails for hiking, biking, and other outdoor pursuits. Local shopping centers, grocery stores, and dining establishments are conveniently located within White Lake or neighboring communities, ensuring that seasonal residents have easy access to all their daily needs. This combination of a tranquil, nature-rich setting and urban accessibility makes White Lake Campground’s location exceptionally appealing for Michigan locals seeking a dedicated seasonal retreat.
White Lake Campground, operating as a seasonal campground, provides a core set of services tailored to its long-term residents. The focus is on facilitating a comfortable and convenient experience for those who commit to a seasonal stay, particularly emphasizing boating access and essential utilities.
- Seasonal Campsite Rentals: The primary service is the provision of seasonal campsites. Unlike public campgrounds, White Lake Campground does not offer short-term public camping. This allows residents to set up their campers for an extended period, creating a sense of semi-permanence.
- Boat Slips and Dock Access: A significant service, particularly highlighted by residents, is the availability of boat slips. Some slips are directly on White Lake, though these have a substantial waiting list, while others are conveniently located on the canal leading to the lake. The campground allows residents to add bumpers and rails to their docks, indicating flexibility for customization.
- Power and Water Hookups: Campsites are equipped with power and water hookups, providing essential utilities for comfortable camping. While direct drinking of tap water is recommended with caution (and a filter by one reviewer), it is suitable for showering and other uses.
- Full Hookup Sites (with metered electric): Some sites offer full hookups, where residents pay for their electric bill based on usage, allowing for more extensive RV amenities.
- Dump Station: A dump site for black and grey water is available on the grounds, providing a necessary service for RV and trailer campers.
- Trash Dumpster: A central dumpster is on grounds for convenient trash disposal, maintaining cleanliness within the community.
- Bathroom and Shower Facilities: The campground provides bathroom facilities with showers. There is a key deposit fee for access to these facilities, suggesting a measure to maintain cleanliness and exclusivity for residents. An additional "rustic outdoor bathroom" is also available.
- On-Site Management: The property manager, Judy, is specifically mentioned as "very kind and great to chat with," providing tours and explaining rules to prospective residents. This direct, friendly management interaction is a key service aspect.
These services collectively support a comfortable and extended camping experience, particularly for those with boating interests.
White Lake Campground boasts several unique features and highlights that set it apart as a seasonal camping destination in Michigan, particularly appealing to those seeking a specific type of outdoor experience.
- Seasonal-Only Camping: This is a key distinguishing feature. The campground caters exclusively to seasonal campers, fostering a stable, long-term community feel rather than transient visitors. This leads to a generally quieter environment where people know their neighbors.
- Direct Lake Access with Boat Slips: A significant highlight is the opportunity to have a boat slip directly connected to White Lake. While slips on the lake itself have a long waiting list, canal slips offer easy access for experienced boaters, making it a rare "camp and boat all in one spot" location in Oakland County.
- Peaceful and Quiet Atmosphere: Despite being a community, the campground is generally "very quiet." While holiday weekends may have later conversations and music, it's typically not disruptive, allowing for restful stays.
- No Dogs Allowed: This strict policy, though potentially divisive, is highlighted by a resident as a reason for the campground's quiet nature, preventing issues caused by barking or uncontrolled pets. This makes it ideal for those who prefer a dog-free environment.
- Experienced and Friendly Management: The property manager, Judy, is specifically praised for being "very kind and great to chat with," providing detailed tours and explanations, contributing to a positive onboarding experience for new residents.
- Flexible Site Customization: Residents are permitted to add personal touches to their sites, such as installing fire pits and adding bumpers/rails to their docks, allowing for a more personalized camping setup.
- Well-Maintained Grounds (Resident Responsibility): While residents are responsible for maintaining their grass, this ensures individual sites are kept tidy, contributing to the overall neat appearance of the campground.
- Essential Hookups and Facilities: Sites offer power and water hookups, and there's a convenient dump site and dumpster on grounds, fulfilling crucial camping needs. The availability of clean showers, albeit with a key deposit, is also a plus.
- "Hidden Gem" Status: The rarity of finding a campground with boating access in Oakland County leads residents to describe it as a "hidden gem," indicating a unique and highly valued offering.
These features collectively define the distinctive and appealing experience at White Lake Campground, particularly for Michigan locals seeking a long-term, serene, and boating-focused outdoor haven.
As a seasonal campground, White Lake Campground does not typically offer short-term promotions or discount codes in the way a retail business might. Its pricing and availability are based on seasonal site rentals and boat slip fees, which are established for the entire camping season. Therefore, prospective residents should not expect traditional "special offers" in the marketing sense.
However, the "offer" of White Lake Campground lies in its unique value proposition for long-term campers and boaters in Oakland County:
- Seasonal Site Availability: The core offering is the opportunity to secure a campsite for an entire season, providing a consistent and convenient base for recreational activities without the need for frequent booking or packing/unpacking.
- Boat Slip Access: The significant advantage is the inclusion of boat slips, a highly sought-after amenity on White Lake. While prime lake-front slips may have long waiting lists, the canal slips provide valuable direct water access.
- Community Stability: Due to its seasonal nature, the campground fosters a more stable community of recurring residents, which can be seen as an intangible benefit compared to transient public campgrounds.
It is important to note that the pricing structure is seasonal, and costs may be perceived as "getting a little up there" by some, while others find it "fairly inexpensive" for the value of a seasonal site with boating access in Oakland County. Any potential differences in pricing for various boat slip types (lake vs. canal, parallel parking docks) should be clarified directly with management.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on seasonal site availability, boat slip fees, and any associated costs, interested individuals should contact White Lake Campground directly. The property manager, Judy, is described as very helpful in explaining all the details.

Customer Reviews
I was hesitant about getting a camper and boat slip here based on some people's reviews. Now that I've been here for a few months I feel as if I can finally write a review. Most of the low ratings I don't really believe any merit to them. This isn't a public campground, it's a seasonal deal. Yes there are older campers here but they've probably been here before I was born. It is common with a seasonal site that they want you to have a newer camper. So don't be surprised if your 20 year old camper that looks new is rejected from a seasonal campground. The boat slips on white lake has a waiting list higher than I can count. In the campground the rest of the slips are on the canal. Circling back to how seasonal slips don't normally allow old boats/campers. An individual left a poor rating after his boat sank. Idk the story behind that but when he went out and bought a brand new pontoon. His negative review was mentioning about how large it was and blah blah blah. Here's some things things to know about the canal. It's not very wide. So if he got a really long pontoon he's going to be sticking way out into the canal. Definitely not cool/considerate to others. There are parallel parking docks for longer boats so he probably had to move to one of those and idk if there's a price difference but from his awful review from lack of understanding, it sounds like there is a price difference. When I was purchasing my slips I don't remember the manager saying there was. The canal is easy enough to get out to the lake if you're an experienced boater. Another thing to note about this individuals boat experience and it being to big. The second bridge you have to go under, most large pontoons can't go under it. I have a 20' sea ray and I have to trim all the way up in the canal, and the second bridge I actually have to go into trailer up a bit for a quick second. The property manager is Judy and she is very kind and great to chat with. She took me on a tour in her golf cart and explained everything to me. Even told me about the campers on the sites. The bathrooms definitely give you an old up north feeling. There's a key deposit fee for using the bathrooms with the showers. There is a rustic outdoor bathroom that's available as well and I don't think that required a key deposit fee. There's power and water on the sites. I've hooked up a small water filtration system and the water seems good enough to use. Without testing it I haven't drank it. I used it once for making coffee and brush my teeth with it. It tasted fine, but without testing take this info very lightly. Showering is good to go as well. There are full hookup sites on the other side but you pay for the electric bill. A dump site for black and grey is on grounds. Dumpster is on grounds for trash. Overall I'm very happy with the campsite and boat slip. They allowed me to add bumpers and rails to my dock. You do have to maintain your grass. That's very typical with campsite slips. There was no fire pit on my site but I was able to add a nice pit. Everyone I've met at the campground so far have been awesome. This is a campground that kinda flys by the rules of just don't be a jerk or a Karen (sorry Karens). If it's a holiday weekend people will be outside talking and playing music till pretty late. It's nothing crazy to where you can't go to sleep with a fan on in the camper. It's generally very quiet here. Another reason of why it's quite here is dogs are not allowed. We all love the fur children but there's always that one dog that ruins it for everyone. So I get that rule. This is honestly a hidden gem. I'm surprised there's not a waiting list to get in here. How many places can you think of in Oakland county where you can camp and boat all in one spot?
I’ve had a spot here for 2 years , dock for my boat . First year was great . 2nd year my boat sank and I was not notified until 72 hours later . The maintenance man came over and told me to get it off the dock or he would cut the rope to my boat . I proceeded to buy a new boat (pontoon) as a replacement boat and then recover a phone call that I could not have it because it was bigger . We got into a dispute over the phone and the lady said she would just give me a different dock . I requested a new receipt . CHEAP SPEAKS FOR ITSELF . Do not recommend
My grandmother and grandfather had a small camper there for 20 years back 45 years ago the park is as it has been frozen in time its the best place on earth. You will love this place. It's for rvs and tents the sights have a beautiful sight of the water. Close to subs stores close .
The place looks OK in pictures, so we called them to book the next month. The lady was very rude and disrespectful.. all due to the age of my rv. I am in a very well kept 1997 that looks new. I would not give her any of my money..... it's not new either for her as she said.
My husband and I rented a dock spot there over the summer for our boat. It was convenient and a clean, well-kept campground.
