Pontiac Lake Campgrounds, nestled within the expansive Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, boasts several features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for outdoor enthusiasts in Michigan.
As a state-managed campground operating under the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Pontiac Lake Campgrounds' "promotions" primarily revolve around the Michigan Recreation Passport program and standard state park fee structures. Unlike private campgrounds, you won't typically find discount codes or seasonal sales in the traditional commercial sense.
The most significant "offer" for Michigan residents is the Michigan Recreation Passport. This annual pass, available for a nominal fee when you renew your license plate at the Secretary of State, provides unlimited vehicle access to all Michigan state parks, recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, and boat launches for an entire year. For anyone planning to visit state parks more than a couple of times a year, purchasing the Recreation Passport is the most cost-effective way to enjoy these facilities, including Pontiac Lake Campgrounds.
Regarding specific camping rates, these are set by the DNR and vary based on site type (e.g., rustic, electric), time of year (peak vs. off-peak), and length of stay. While there aren't typically "promotions" on these rates, the value offered by the state park system, with its extensive network of well-maintained natural areas, is itself a significant benefit.
For information on booking, current rates, and availability, visitors should refer to the official Michigan DNR Reservations website (MiDNRReservations.com) or call 1-800-44-PARKS (1-800-447-2757). Occasionally, the DNR may announce special events or programs within state parks, but these are generally recreational or educational rather than direct discounts on camping fees. The reported discount given to the reviewer for the power outage highlights a commitment to customer service rather than a standing promotion.
Therefore, the best "promotion" for a Michigan local interested in Pontiac Lake Campgrounds is to ensure they have an active Michigan Recreation Passport for affordable year-round access to this and all other state parks.

I really like the sites themselves. A lot of them offer quite a bit of privacy. The facilities seem kinda old, although they keep them up pretty well. The grounds were clean and the staff was very nice. The reason for 3 stars is because, the 4 days we were there, 2 of them we had no power. Now I understand that storms happen and they have no control over that. But, before we got there, we were told that the power would be back on Fri. (This was Thur) Well, that didn't seem so bad. We can handle a day without it, and no generator. But by Sat evening, when it finally came back on, the battery in the camper was almost dead, our food had gone bad, and we were completely miserable. If anything, we should have been offered tent site prices or some type of discount since we didn't get what we paid for. Edited to add... We were just given a discount, so I definitely give them 4 stars. The only thing holding me back from giving 5 is the dump station. We dumped elsewhere, but I know that not all campers can do that. Be prepared for a wait if it's a busy weekend.
