Woodlands Acres Campground is nestled at 318 S Sage Lake Rd, Hale, MI 48739, USA. This address places it within the serene and picturesque area of Hale, Michigan, located in Iosco County. Hale is part of Michigan's "Sunrise Side," a region renowned for its numerous inland lakes, forests, and proximity to Lake Huron. For Michigan residents, this location offers a genuine escape into nature, providing a tranquil setting that feels far removed from urban centers, yet remains reasonably accessible for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation.
The accessibility of Woodlands Acres Campground for Michigan locals is generally good, especially for those in the central and eastern Lower Peninsula. Hale is reachable via well-maintained state routes, ensuring a relatively smooth journey for RVs and vehicles towing trailers. While the campground offers a feeling of seclusion, it's not so remote as to be difficult to find. The mention that Sage Lake is "like a mile away" from the core campground areas suggests that while not directly lakeside from every site, the lake is easily accessible. This blend of peaceful, natural surroundings and manageable accessibility makes Woodlands Acres Campground an attractive destination for Michiganders looking to immerse themselves in the state's beautiful lake country without an overly arduous drive.
Woodlands Acres Campground offers a range of services designed to provide a comfortable and engaging camping experience, particularly emphasizing natural recreation. While some areas, like restrooms, are noted for needing improvement, the core services aim to facilitate enjoyment of the beautiful natural setting. Here are the key services mentioned or implied:
Tent Camping Availability: The campground explicitly states "Tent camping definitely available!", catering to traditional campers.
Campsites: While specific details on RV hookups (electric, water, sewer) are not provided in the reviews, the presence of an "RV resort" in the name and context of a typical campground suggests various site types may be available. Prospective campers should inquire directly about specific hookup options.
Boat and Kayak Rentals: The campground offers "inexpensive boat and kayak rentals" on Sage Lake, providing easy access to water recreation even if campers don't bring their own equipment.
Friendly Management and Staff: Reviews consistently highlight "the Owner and staff went above and beyond to make everything comfortable and relaxing." Specifically, the managers, Barbra and John, are described as "the sweetest people" and "funniest sweetheart," offering help with kayaks and being delightful to talk to.
Private Lake Access: While not directly adjacent to all sites, there is access to a "private lake" (Sage Lake) for guest use.
Pond Features: The campground includes a pond with a "beach, wood raft, swing and long built in ground slide!!!", providing unique water play features.
Firewood: While not explicitly stated as a service, the presence of fire pits implies firewood availability, which is typical for campgrounds (though guests should verify if it's sold on-site).
Support for Kayak Transport: John, one of the managers, "offered to help take our kayaks to the lake since itโs like a mile away," indicating a helpful service for guests.
It's important for prospective visitors to be aware of the specific feedback regarding bathroom cleanliness, which is a significant concern raised by one reviewer. Direct inquiry about recent improvements or maintenance schedules for facilities would be advisable.
Woodlands Acres Campground boasts several unique features and highlights that make it an attractive destination for Michigan families, particularly those seeking immersive natural experiences. These attributes define its appeal and set it apart:

While the natural beauty and friendly staff are significant positives, prospective visitors should be aware of and directly inquire about the stated concerns regarding bathroom cleanliness and the condition of the lake water (goose poop, green bacteria/sludge), as mentioned in one review. These aspects, if unaddressed, could impact the overall experience despite the other highlights.
Specific, explicit "promotions or special offers" for Woodlands Acres Campground are not detailed in the provided customer reviews. Customer Reviews
This park is BEAUTIFUL. Just wish it would be taken care of better. There is a community of men staying there currently. They pee all over the bathrooms, EVEN IN THE WOMENS. The bathrooms are disgusting. The private lake is gorgeous but the goose poop has probably got that full of E-Coli. The lake only looks a foot deep because there 2+ feet of green bacteria. The pond also is full of the green sludge. I met the campground managers Barbra and John. They are the sweetest people! John offered to help take our kayaks to the lake since itโs like a mile away. And Mrs.Barbra is just the funniest sweetheart. You can talk to her all day. Also you guys seriously need to do some advertising. My family has lived in Hale for YEARS and no one knew about this place. More costumers=more money (hopefully treat your water so no one gets necrotizing fasciitis)
Absolutely beautiful place especially if you have children! So much natural fun for the kids to immerse themselves in. The Owner and staff went above and beyond to make everything comfortable and relaxing. Tent camping definitely available! Stunning Sage Lake with inexpensive boat and kayak rentals. Pond with beach, wood raft, swing and long built in ground slide!!! Woodlands Acres is a hidden gem and we are delighted to have found it ๐๐๐ We will definitely return, Thank you Woodlands Acres for having us!!!
Stayed here over Labor Day weekend. The place was amazing! The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The campgrounds, bathrooms, and other amenities were clean and kept up. The private lake was unbelievable. We will definitely be going back there.
Now under private ownership this is a great campground. The fishing lay a canvas swimming pond, numerous trails and hundreds of acres to explore. Great place for corporate get together's group outings have a really nice house to rent with a beautiful dock overlooking the lake. These pictures were taken at night off the deck of the house.
Great campground!!!! While it only recently re-opened the grounds have been well maintained and the bathroom/bathhouse is well maintained and close to all campsites. It has a nice little park for kids, basketball court, volleyball and a beach where you can kayak or just relax. A perfect place if you just want to stay in one spot and not leave. The staff was wonderful and just a text away for any of your needs Itโs also only about 5 minute drive from sage lake and 28 minutes from west branch!!! This will be our go to campground anytime we want to stay near safe lake!!!!
