Dunbar Group Campsite is located in Beverly Shores, IN 46304, USA. While a specific street address isn't always given for group campsites within large natural areas, its placement in Beverly Shores strongly indicates its integration into the breathtaking Indiana Dunes National Park or a closely associated natural area.
The location within Beverly Shores in Northwest Indiana is a significant advantage for Indiana residents. This region is renowned for its unique dune landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and the stunning shoreline of Lake Michigan. Being "right across from the beach," as noted in reviews, provides unparalleled direct access to one of the most beloved natural attractions in the state. This means groups don't need to drive or coordinate transportation every time they wish to visit the beach, enhancing the spontaneity and ease of their outdoor experience.
Accessibility to the broader area is also excellent for Indiana locals. Major roadways, including the Indiana Toll Road (I-90) and I-94, are typically within a reasonable driving distance, connecting Beverly Shores to larger cities like Chicago (to the west) and South Bend (to the east). While the campsite itself might require a walk up a "steep hill" from the parking area, this characteristic can appeal to active groups or those seeking a bit of physical challenge, making it "great if you want to get in shape." The convenience of local amenities like gas stations and stores in nearby towns would also be within reach, ensuring practicality for groups. For Indiana residents, Dunbar Group Campsite's location offers a perfect blend of natural immersion and convenient access to the wonders of the Indiana Dunes.
Dunbar Group Campsite is specifically designed to accommodate groups, providing amenities that facilitate communal outdoor experiences. Based on available public information and customer reviews, the campsite offers:
Roomy Group Site: The campsite is described as "roomy," indicating ample space for a larger group. This is a significant advantage over individual campsites, ensuring comfort for multiple tents or a shared gathering area.
Multiple Picnic Tables: The site comes equipped with "5 or 6 tables," providing plenty of surface area for group meals, games, and social interaction, eliminating the need for groups to bring their own extensive table setups.
Fire Ring with Grill: A designated fire ring with a grill is available, perfect for campfires, cooking meals over an open flame, and enjoying traditional camping activities.
Clean Restrooms: Reviews confirm that the "restrooms were clean," which is a crucial amenity for any camping experience, ensuring hygiene and comfort for all group members.
Beach Proximity: While not a direct "service" in the traditional sense, the location "right across from the beach" is a major functional benefit, providing easy, walk-across access to Lake Michigan's shoreline for swimming, sunbathing, and recreation.
Parking Considerations: While there is a limit to the number of cars allowed at the site, and additional cars may need to be parked elsewhere, this indicates that parking is managed, even if it requires some coordination for larger groups during peak season.
Given its designation as a group campsite, it’s important to note that individual water spigots or electrical hookups at each specific group site are less common for this type of setting, though central access points for water may exist. Prospective groups should confirm any specific amenity details with the managing authority of the Indiana Dunes National Park.
Dunbar Group Campsite is notable for several key features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for groups seeking an outdoor adventure in the Indiana Dunes:

This allows for incredibly convenient and spontaneous trips to Lake Michigan, eliminating the need to drive and coordinate transportation for beach access. This is a huge advantage for group activities.
Spacious Group Layout: The "roomy site" with "5 or 6 tables" provides ample space for large groups to spread out, set up multiple tents, and gather comfortably for meals and socializing without feeling cramped.
Built-in Cooking Area: The inclusion of a fire ring with a grill makes meal preparation easy and enjoyable, fostering a classic camping experience around the campfire.
Clean Facilities: The cleanliness of the restrooms is a consistent positive point, ensuring a more comfortable and hygienic stay for all members of the group.
Physically Engaging Ascent: The "steep hill" to the site, while a challenge, is highlighted as "great if you want to get in shape." This feature could appeal to active groups looking for a bit of a workout as part of their outdoor experience.
Ideal for Bicyclists: The comment "It’s perfect for bicyclists who camp" suggests the area offers good cycling opportunities or easy access for those traveling by bike, making it a niche highlight for the cycling community.
Natural Immersion: Despite the proximity to the beach and any distant sounds (like trains), the overall environment encourages immersion in nature, offering a genuine outdoor escape for groups.
The unique combination of group-specific amenities and unparalleled beach access makes Dunbar Group Campsite a standout option for a memorable collective camping trip in the Indiana Dunes.

National Park Pass Benefits: While entry fees to National Parks might be covered by passes like the America the Beautiful series, it's important to verify if these passes offer any direct discounts on group campsite reservations themselves. Usually, passes cover individual entry or vehicle fees, not specific campsite costs, but always worth checking.

Customer Reviews
Steep hill to walk up to the site. I must have gone up that hill 20 times this weekend. Great if you want to get in shape. The site is lovely and right across from the beach. (Nice for groups because you don’t need to drive and coordinate with others every time you want to go to the beach.) It’s a roomy site with 5 or 6 tables and a fire ring with a grill. I suggest packing very light and taking simple, easy to cook meals. The less trips you have to make to your car (especially after dark) the better. There is also a limit to the number of cars you are allowed to park here and the rest have to be taken elsewhere. Not a problem in the low season but in summer it would be an issue. It’s perfect for bicyclists who camp. Restrooms were clean.
