Beverly Shores itself is a charming town known for its unique architecture and direct access to some of the most picturesque stretches of the National Park's coastline.
The accessibility to these campsites is quite distinct, as indicated by their "walk-in" designation. While there is "great paved parking large enough for any size rig or RV" at the end of Central Avenue, access to the individual campsites themselves requires a walk. Being part of the Indiana Dunes National Park system means the campsites benefit from the park's well-maintained infrastructure and resources. Visitors can easily access the stunning "beautiful beach" from the parking area, although it involves a "steep descending access," which is described as being "so worth it" for the views and experience. The proximity to Lake Michigan is a major draw, offering opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, birdwatching, and enjoying breathtaking sunsets.
For Indiana residents, the location in Beverly Shores provides convenient access from various parts of Northwest Indiana and beyond. It’s relatively straightforward to reach via major state routes and is a manageable drive from larger population centers like Valparaiso, Michigan City, and even the greater Chicago metropolitan area. For Hoosiers who appreciate a genuine outdoor adventure without the constant noise and traffic of larger campgrounds, Central Avenue is ideal.
The immediate proximity to the "beautiful beach" on Lake Michigan is another major highlight. Beautiful beach, steep descending access but so worth it. Great paved parking large enough for any size rig or RV. I had 2 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming.
Oct 15, 2024 · Will HandleyStayed late May in site #2. A little over a 5-minute walk-in to a very large clearing. Very private, very quiet, except for distant train noise. Site includes picnic table and fire ring, if you want to haul (or roll) in your firewood. Water and flush toilets are available at the end of the beach path. We found a couple of ticks in the site so stay aware. Stopping at the national park info center is suggested to get an overnight parking pass (though not strictly required).
Jun 02, 2024 · Ian DuttonSite 1 is the only one that can be access near the entrance. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are a hike up very deep in before you get to the camp site. Hard to carry things up. We end up getting a hotel after after stopping by the Park Avenue Beach. It was beautiful to see the sunset by the beach.
Jul 26, 2024 · LuluWe stayed last August in site number 1. It's beautiful and private and close to the beach. But I have never experienced such ferocious mosquitoes. We just went from the beach straight into our tents at night--it's that or Deet because the organic mosquito repellent wasn't enough to keep them away. A family that had a site further in the woods came running out and said they got a hotel because they couldn't deal with the mosquitoes. But it's a great inexpensive place to stay very close to the beach, so if you take a screened dining tent (we didn't) it would be fine, though you will have to hike it in and up the hill to the site. Maybe some of the sites further in aren't up a steep hill.
Jul 13, 2024 · Dawn RameyThis campground is about as primitive as they come. No bathrooms (only porta-potties). No water. No office. I reserved spot two, which is the forever away from all the other spots. It was extremely quiet at night, even though a large group of teens were partying at spot one. The campground is right next to Central Beach, which I feel is the most beautiful stretch of beach I experienced during my short visit at Indiana Dunes National and State Parks. Just be ready for a hefty hike to reach any campsite other than number one (especially 3, 4, and 5).
