Ziegenhorn's Timber is a beautiful rustic campground south of Fairbury that is absolutely worth your time. It offers value cabins with a fridge, microwave, and queen bed each. Cabins with AC cost extra but are recommended, especially during the summer. While you do need to bring your own bedding, the mattresses themselves are quality and are worth doing so. The bedframes are all highly sturdy, too! Any problems with the cabins really just come down to both preference and the bugs that tend to sneak inside every once in a while (specifically ladybugs). Even then, several fly swatters are provided in each cabin, and even as someone who heavily dislikes insects in the first place, I find it extremely comfortable inside. The only other drawback is the communal bathrooms, but after you get over that, it's a fantastic stay. The river and lake are great for both sightseeing and swimming, and while not sizeable, they are absolutely relaxing even to just sit by. You can find geese, the occasional heron, and other birds all around the premises. There are also campfires with wood available for you to burn, and a gazebo for you to relax at. As for service, Mr. Ziegenhorn is very kind. During daylight hours, he is responsive and always wears a smile. He'll happily offer tours of the site as well as history regarding it. He's a highly respectable man that you'll be able to get along with just fine!

You'll never find a more accommodating host than Steve. I hesitated to book because of a review saying they were overcharged, but after reading it, I did the math and realized they were undercharged (some people want everything for nothing) for the large group of people they had. I have NOTHING bad to say. We stayed for a week and the owner personally checked in with us every day to make sure we were comfortable. This is the kind of place that makes travel pleasurable. It's a truly picturesque setting. Go out of your way if you have to, but make sure you check this place out whether you're traveling Route 66 or just want a beautiful place to camp in Fairbury, Il.

Place is GREAT! You can bring your tents, rent a cabin and plenty of room for an RV. Indian Creek flows through the whole property for that extra tranquility. We had a family reunion there and the per person charge for the venue was ridiculously affordable. The owner will ensure you will have everything you need and to make your stay memorable.

Hi! My mom brought me here for my 8th grade graduation and it was AMAZING! Me and my friends got to swim in the huge pond! We also went on the creek with kayaks. The creek was so clear! Danine (who worked there) was so nice and she even took us on a golf cart ride to the spot by that humongous tree and it was gorgeous 😍 Also I loved the cabins, (there were 4) one was bunk beds wich is were I stayed with 4 other friends and it was plenty of room with a air mattress. We had some great food that we cooked on the fire pit. 😋 The bathrooms came with showers wich was nice and they had good lighting. The only thing I think they should add is a fridge and oven in the pavilion room. I totally recommend, I would come here again!

I am writing this based solely on my family and my own experience alone. **BEWARE! FRAUD/SCHEME/SCAM** Our stay was on May 24th, 2024 – May 26th, 2024. Regrettably, the unprofessionalism and fraudulent activity are as follows: **Advertised prices:** - $80/night per cabin - $20/night per RV Without any discounts, the total should be $680 for 2 nights per cabin and 2 nights for the RV. However, my sister was charged $1,100. To avoid conflict and fear of retaliation, my sister-in-law paid an additional $420 for services not received. The owner provided no statement. **Experience at Ziegenhorn's Timber:** My sister-in-law wanted a nice weekend for everyone by a lake. She rented all 4 cabins, and our family brought a camper. She generously paid for everyone’s stay. Upon arrival, the place seemed nice with a pond, pontoon float dock, and a pavilion with a fire pit and benches. However, the 2 full bathrooms were poorly maintained, with cobwebs, live spiders, slippery tile, uneven floors, and a dirty shower. **Cabins:** - 3 cabins with 1 queen bed each, room for an air mattress - 1 cabin with bunk beds - Small fridge, table, chairs, air conditioning - Charming modern style but on an unlevel foundation, causing excessive difficulty for my mother-in-law post-surgery We needed food and a working kitchen, but there was no fridge, stove, or sink. The owner offered a fire pit with a cooking grate and an electric griddle, but the griddle was never provided. This made cooking difficult. The pavilion’s unfinished room was infested with ants and flies, making it hard to keep food safe. Despite these issues, we tried to enjoy our time. We gathered around the fire for meals, music, and memories. However, a woman living on the property talked non-stop, and the owner frequently intruded on our gatherings. **Stay Summary:** - 2 nights, 3 days - Less than 20 people and 5 dogs - Rented all 4 cabins and an RV spot for 2 nights - Despite renting the entire property, strangers were allowed to fish on our site **Conclusion:** The unprofessionalism and fraudulent activity are clear. Despite the advertised prices of $680, my sister was forced to pay $1,100. The owner provided no statement. I hope this is a misunderstanding and that Ziegenhorn's Timber can still do the right thing.
