For Michiganders yearning for a genuine escape into the wild, where the sounds of nature replace the hum of daily life, Andrus Lake State Forest Campground in Paradise, Michigan, offers an idyllic setting. Tucked away in the beautiful Upper Peninsula, this rustic campground provides an authentic outdoor experience. It's the perfect spot for those who appreciate the simplicity of nature, a clear night sky, and the tranquility of a secluded lakeside setting. Unlike some of the more modern campgrounds, Andrus Lake truly embraces the "forest" in its name, inviting campers to disconnect and immerse themselves in the pristine Michigan wilderness.
Many local campers seek out these rustic gems specifically for their lack of modern distractions. As one satisfied visitor noted, "Cute, quaint little state forest campground. Not another soul to be seen so we picked the ideal spot to set camp for the weekend. We were there early November so the lack of people wasn't at all surprising." Another highlighted the serene atmosphere, stating, "Camped here twice in October. Beautiful sunsets over the lake. No electricity? No problem." These sentiments perfectly capture the essence of what makes Andrus Lake State Forest Campground a cherished destination for those in Michigan who prioritize peace and natural beauty over extensive amenities.
Andrus Lake State Forest Campground is conveniently situated at 32965 W Vermillion Rd, Paradise, MI 49768, USA. Located in Chippewa County, it's approximately 5.5 miles north of the charming town of Paradise, making it a relatively easy drive for many Michigan residents. To reach the campground from Paradise, you'll typically take North Whitefish Point Road and then turn onto West Vermillion Road.
Its location in the eastern Upper Peninsula places it within a short distance of some of Michigan's most iconic natural attractions. It's approximately 17 miles southwest of the majestic Tahquamenon Falls State Park, home to both the Upper and Lower Falls. Furthermore, it's just about 6 miles north of Whitefish Point, famous for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and the historic Whitefish Point Light Station. Andrus Lake State Forest Campground provides a range of essential services to ensure a comfortable, albeit rustic, camping experience.
Andrus Lake State Forest Campground and its surrounding area are rich with features and highlights that draw in Michigan’s outdoor enthusiasts.
As a State Forest Campground managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Andrus Lake State Forest Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations are accepted. The nightly rate for a campsite is $20. While specific promotional offers directly from Andrus Lake State Forest Campground are not typical given its rustic, non-reservable nature, Michigan residents can often take advantage of general state park system discounts and passes.
For example, purchasing a Michigan Recreation Passport provides access to all Michigan state parks and recreation areas, including state forest campgrounds, for a full year. This is a highly cost-effective option for frequent campers and outdoor enthusiasts. Information on the Recreation Passport and its benefits can be found on the Michigan DNR website. Additionally, some camping resources or apps might offer general discounts for various campgrounds, but it's important to verify their applicability to state forest campgrounds which typically have fixed, minimal fees.
Given its rustic nature and first-come, first-served policy, the best "promotion" is often the opportunity to secure a quiet, picturesque campsite at an affordable rate, especially during off-peak seasons or mid-week when fewer people are present. Always remember to check the Michigan DNR website for the most up-to-date fee information and any policy changes.

Jun 14, 2024 · Susie CzapskiSuch a beautiful atmosphere. Great people. Really missed Bob and Mary this year (camp host) Love camping on this lake. Beautiful views stars at night, close to whitefish point. AWESOME CAMP
Sep 19, 2020 · Shanon ReilAndrus Lake State Forest Campground is a place for REAL camping, not that parking lot stuff you'll find closer to the falls. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the location is great: 5 minutes North of Paradise, 5 minutes South of Whitefish Point, 25 minutes East from the Falls. Lots of ORV tracks around. And it's right on a beautiful lake for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Cute little beach and picnic area also. I just wish this park didn't allow generators!!
