Bodi Lake State Forest Campground is located on Bodi Lake Rd, Newberry, MI 49868, USA. This address places it squarely within Michigan's State Forest system, which inherently means a more rustic and natural setting compared to developed state parks or private campgrounds. Newberry, often referred to as the "Moose Capital of Michigan," is a central Upper Peninsula town, offering a convenient balance of remote natural beauty and access to necessary services.
The campground’s accessibility is good for its rustic nature, being reachable via Bodi Lake Road. While the roads leading to and within State Forest campgrounds might be unpaved, they are generally passable. What truly enhances its accessibility is its direct frontage on Bodi Lake. This direct and easy access to the lake for swimming, fishing, and boating (via a public access boat ramp) is a major draw. Its location within a State Forest also means it's part of a larger network of trails and natural areas for further exploration, yet it feels wonderfully secluded, making it an ideal destination for Michiganders seeking a genuine escape into the U.P. wilderness.

As a State Forest Campground managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bodi Lake operates under a standard fee structure that typically doesn't include individual "promotions" in the way a private business might. However, there are inherent values and offerings that could be considered "special offers" for Michigan residents.
- Michigan Recreation Passport: This is the primary and most significant "promotion" for Michiganders. For a modest annual fee (purchased when renewing license plates), the Recreation Passport provides unlimited access to all Michigan state parks and recreation areas, including State Forest Campgrounds like Bodi Lake. This offers incredible value for frequent outdoor enthusiasts.
- Affordable Rates: State Forest Campgrounds are generally known for being more rustic and thus typically more affordable than state park campgrounds or private RV parks. This budget-friendly pricing is an ongoing benefit for campers seeking an economical getaway.
- First-Come, First-Served Sites: Many State Forest Campgrounds, especially smaller ones like Bodi Lake, operate on a first-come, first-served basis for some or all sites. While this requires flexibility, it can be a "special offer" for spontaneous trips or for those who prefer not to make reservations far in advance.
- Unique Natural Immersion: The "special offer" is the experience itself: highly private, waterfront sites with direct lake access for swimming and fishing, nestled in a quiet State Forest. This level of natural immersion and seclusion is a valuable commodity that often comes at a higher price elsewhere.
For the most accurate and current information on camping fees, availability, and specific regulations, it is always best to consult the official Michigan DNR website or contact the campground directly using the provided phone number.

As a State Forest Campground, it's advisable to call ahead, especially during peak season, to inquire about site availability (as some may be first-come, first-served) and any current conditions, such as the status of the hiking trail maintenance mentioned in a review.

Customer Reviews
Small campground with spaced out private sites. Many are waterfront with access and a beautiful view. The lake was clean for swimming and fishing. The trash and toilets were maintained, but the hiking trail was not.
10 for 10 will stay here again! Lots of great camping in the area, but this place is one of the best. Very private sites, lots of trees, almost every single site has Bodi Lake access. Great host this summer! Has a public access boat ramp and the fishing was not bad, either! Clean vault toilets.
This place is very remote and rustic, sitting next to a small beautiful lake. It's a stunning place. I loved waking up to the sound of the Loons and the slow lapping waves on the beach.
*ALERT* Google Maps was incorrect on driving access in to the campground from the South East. This route took me to a super tight 2 track trail that ran me into a small creek that went over that road I wasn’t able to pass. I ended up backtracking and coming in from the South West side instead. Not sure if this was just because it was winter or if this is what you have to do year round. Otherwise once I got to the campground it was great! Beautiful spots right on the lake amongst the trees. Very nice fire rings and picnic tables at each site as well as vault toilets and a water pump shared between several sites.
Just did a drive-through, but it looked great. Site one could accommodate multiple tents and has great access to the lake. Many other sites looked good, too. Plenty of privacy, not right on top of each other.
