Beaver Pond Campground is an ideal and highly suitable destination for New York locals seeking an accessible, nature-based getaway. Its location within Harriman State Park provides an immediate immersion into the wooded tranquility of the Hudson Valley, offering a much-needed break from the densely populated metropolitan area. For those who enjoy hiking, swimming, or simply gathering around a campfire, the park's offerings are exceptional and plentiful.
However, local users need to manage their expectations, particularly regarding the atmosphere during peak season. Reviews frequently point to a common challenge in campgrounds close to a major city: the difficulty in enforcing quiet hours and rules about noise, alcohol, and site occupancy. Reports of loud music, late-night noise, and sites that feel too close together are a recurring theme. The official rules are very clear—alcohol and amplified music are prohibited, and quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM—but the enforcement can be inconsistent.
For the local camper, this means Beaver Pond is best suited for:
To ensure a positive experience, locals should consider booking a site in the more secluded "W Section," if available, and calling ahead to confirm any current policy enforcement measures. Ultimately, Beaver Pond offers the classic New York camping experience—an affordable, action-packed natural escape right outside your back door—provided you understand and prepare for the social dynamics of a highly popular and easily accessible urban-adjacent campground.

Great facilities with nice raised platforms for tents and relatively clean bathrooms and showers. Staff is friendly, but unfortunately not very effective at enforcing their own rules. Lots of partying campers with loud music that kinda ruin the experience for everyone. Quiet hours are not enforced, but even if the staff speaks to a camper, the second they leave the musics and noise is back on. If you are looking to camp with a large group of people then its not bad, just not a place where you can relax and unwind in nature.
Sep 06, 2025 · Johnny KWhen we first got here, we can already smell the burning, and it’s constantly burning from all campsites. These campsites are extremely close to each other, I felt like I was in a community park. It’s silent time after 10pm. But I. The early morning like 6am you can hear the music played loud, people in the mic speaking loud. Also, the burning started from again. Day by day, you just can’t get to smell fresh air. Very bad.
Sep 14, 2025 · Tan KarchuanBeen coming here for years but after this weekend, we wont be coming back. Its gotten worse and worse the last few times. This weekend we had the loudest group next to us. Dirty music all day and extremely loud talking until midnight. We have 3 small children. The campers only beach was closed so we had to go to the main beach area that had only a couple of lifeguards so everyone was pack in like sardines. The beach was 90% of the reason we would come here. We wont be going back any longer
Aug 17, 2025 · Amoros RokajIt was good the first night we stayed which was Thursday night and not a lot of people. Enjoyed the little private beach area and the nearby hiking trails. The bathrooms were not the most clean but also not horrible. The sites were large and the bear cabinets were great. We saw deers on the sites and the rangers told us that there were sighting of baby bear as well. However, Friday night was a disaster. Like everyone else commented, there were Spanish music/gathering til 3am and zero enforcements. Ended up calling the cops and the state troopers arrived at 4am and that’s when they stopped.
Jun 21, 2025 · Mia LianTrailers beware. This campsite is listed to have a public dump station but it doesn’t. Ranger was condescending and lacked any empathy or understanding how far people trek up here. Offered to pay and since the campsite is full it would not allow me to do that. National parks, and 25 state parks where we have stayed throughout this country allow dumping. Good job NY state parks, way to help the camping community.
