Big Knot Campsite About
For Georgians with a passion for authentic outdoor adventure, Big Knot Campsite offers a quintessential backcountry experience unlike the more developed campgrounds in the state. Tucked away along the renowned Pine Mountain Trail within the sprawling F.D. Roosevelt State Park in Pine Mountain, this campsite is not for the faint of heart, but rather for those who truly seek to immerse themselves in the tranquility and challenges of the wilderness. It’s a place where the sounds of the city are replaced by rustling leaves and the crackle of a self-made campfire, providing a much-needed escape from modern life.
As one satisfied camper noted, "Nice private site, not far from the main trail. Even had a fallen tree at the site that we chopped in to fire wood." This highlights the self-sufficient nature of a stay at Big Knot, where part of the adventure involves interacting directly with the natural environment. The site is a 1.6-mile hike from the parking lot, meaning preparation and good timing are essential for setting up camp. While a reviewer suggested to "repaint the trail markers" as the "trail is a little difficult to see at times... Especially after the leaves fall and cover the ground," this also underscores the genuine wilderness feel of the area. For those who relish navigating and discovering, this simply adds to the sense of accomplishment. Another succinct review simply stated, "Love this place," which perfectly captures the sentiment of those who appreciate this type of rugged beauty.

Nice private site, not far from the main trail. Even had a fallen tree at the site that we chopped in to fire wood. Site is 1.6 miles from the parking lot, so allow for enough time to hike and set up camp. Would suggest to the park officials to repaint the trail makers. The trail is a little difficult to see at times... Especially after the leaves fall and cover the ground.
