Blue Valley Campground is nestled in the stunning Blue Valley area, accessible via Blue Valley Rd, Highlands, NC 28741, USA. This location places it firmly within the beautiful Nantahala National Forest, in the southwestern part of North Carolina, close to the charming mountain town of Highlands. For North Carolina residents, reaching this campground typically involves a scenic drive through the picturesque mountain roads that characterize this region.
While some campsites are "right off the road," it's important to note that the road itself is described as a "little dirt road" with "not much traffic," ensuring that "99% of the time you have your privacy." Other sites offer "little driveways" and are even "more secluded," providing varying degrees of privacy based on preference. Access to the campground involves navigating winding dirt and gravel roads, which are generally well-kept, even during inclement weather. Guests driving larger rigs should exercise caution and be aware of potentially tight turns, though some have successfully maneuvered 30-foot 5th wheels in the general area. Despite its secluded feel, Blue Valley Campground is remarkably close to popular natural attractions. It's just a short distance from the stunning Glen Falls and numerous other hiking trails, offering ample opportunities for exploration without extensive travel once you've set up camp. This balance of remote tranquility and proximity to outdoor activities makes it an ideal destination for locals seeking an authentic mountain experience.
Blue Valley Campground offers a minimalist yet functional set of services, emphasizing a primitive camping experience in harmony with nature. This campground is largely a dispersed camping area managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
Blue Valley Campground's charm lies in its unique natural features and the quality of its rustic camping environment, appealing to those who seek true wilderness immersion.
As a primitive dispersed camping area typically managed by the U.S. Forest Service, Blue Valley Campground does not offer traditional "promotions or special offers" in the commercial sense. Its primary appeal is its very nature: it is often a "no fee" campground, operating on a "first come, first served" basis, providing accessible and affordable wilderness camping.
The value of Blue Valley Campground comes from its inherent features:
Since reservations are generally not taken, and there are no fees, there wouldn't be any "discounts" or "packages" to consider. Campers looking for a cost-effective way to experience the North Carolina mountains will find the inherent value of Blue Valley Campground to be its greatest offering. Always verify the current status and any updated regulations with the Nantahala National Forest or the relevant Forest Service office before planning your trip, as policies for primitive sites can occasionally change.

Absolutely beautiful. We love coming here and have never had a bad campsite. The solitude and quietness is so peaceful. All you hear are the insects and the river. Some campsites are right off the road and some have little driveways and are more secluded. There is not much traffic on the little dirt road though so 99% of the time you have your privacy. Most sites have a picnic table and all of them have fire rings.
Nov 05, 2021 · Kelli GunckleGreat primitive sites with fire rings. Most have tables and are situated next to the little stream. There are many hiking trails and Glen Falls near by. Bring fresh water and take your trash with you. Stayed 2 nights and didn't have any animal problems, but they are out there.
May 03, 2018 · MDVery good dispersed national forest campground. No fee and very secluded. Max 14 day stay. (normal) Sites have tent pad, fire ring, lantern post.
