Brigadoon About

For Texans who cherish unique experiences and a strong sense of community, "camping" at Brigadoon is far more than just pitching a tent – it's an immersive dive into a world of camaraderie, music, and festive revelry. Located within the sprawling campgrounds of the iconic Texas Renaissance Festival (TRF), Brigadoon isn't your typical quiet nature retreat. Instead, it’s a lively, welcoming "clan" where visitors become part of an extended family, sharing laughter, music, and unforgettable moments. If you've ever dreamt of camping alongside fellow enthusiasts who embrace fun, creativity, and spontaneous "shenanigans," Brigadoon is a place you'll want to discover.

This article is crafted specifically for our Texas friends looking for an extraordinary camping adventure. We'll explore what makes Brigadoon a standout choice for those attending the Texas Renaissance Festival, from its unique atmosphere and accessibility to the unparalleled sense of belonging it offers. Prepare to learn why, for many, Brigadoon isn't just a place to sleep, but a home away from home during the magical weekends of the Texas Renaissance Festival.

Location and Accessibility

Brigadoon is located within the expansive Fields of New Market Campground, adjacent to the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds in Grimes County, TX 77363, USA. While the specific address for Brigadoon itself isn't a public, standalone site, its home within the official TRF campground means it benefits from the festival's established infrastructure. The Texas Renaissance Festival is situated in Todd Mission, which is easily accessible from major Texas cities. From Houston, it’s a straightforward drive north, and from Dallas/Fort Worth or Austin, it’s a manageable journey east or southeast, respectively. You'll typically navigate to the festival grounds, and then follow signs for the campground.

The Fields of New Market Campground is a vast, 230-acre dispersed camping facility, meaning there are no pre-assigned campsites in the general camping areas. Campers can set up their tents or park their RVs/trailers anywhere, provided they are at least 10 feet from roadways. This "first-come, first-served" approach for general camping allows groups like Brigadoon to create their own vibrant, communal spaces. While the campground itself is somewhat rustic, offering a genuine camping experience, its direct proximity to the festival grounds is a major convenience. This means campers at Brigadoon can easily walk to and from the festival village, avoiding traffic and parking hassles, and truly immerse themselves in the Renaissance Faire experience from dawn till deep into the night. It's a location that, while rural, is perfectly positioned for festival-goers seeking the full, unadulterated TRF adventure.

  • Shower Facilities: "The Royal Bath House" offers showers, typically open from 6 AM to 10 PM. Shower tokens are often required ($5 for an 8-minute shower).
  • Restroom Facilities: Porta-potties are available throughout the campground.

  • Acceptance and Inclusivity: The community prides itself on being diverse, welcoming, and accepting of all individuals, regardless of their "weirdness and awkwardness."

Promotions or Special Offers

As Brigadoon is a specific, self-organized "clan" or themed camp within the larger Texas Renaissance Festival (TRF) campground, it doesn't typically offer standalone "promotions" in the traditional sense like a commercial campground. Your entry to Brigadoon is through participation and community. However, attending Brigadoon inherently involves purchasing passes for the Texas Renaissance Festival and its campgrounds. The TRF itself offers various ways to save or enhance your experience:

  • Stay & Play Full Weekend Pass: This bundle often includes both weekend festival admission and camping for the entire weekend, which can be more cost-effective than purchasing them separately.
  • Season Pass Holder Benefits: Those with Camping Season Passes can often rope off and keep their campsite set up for the entire festival season, which could be an indirect benefit for dedicated Brigadoon members.
  • Advance Online Purchase: Festival tickets and camping passes are often cheaper when purchased online in advance compared to at the gate.
  • Glamping/Rental Options: While Brigadoon itself is about bringing your own setup, the TRF campground offers various rental upgrades like "Stargazing Glamping Tents," "Cabins," or "RV Rentals" for those seeking more amenities, though these are separate from the core Brigadoon experience.

It's always best to check the official Texas Renaissance Festival website for the most up-to-date information on camping passes, rules, and any package deals that might include camping access for the weekends you plan to visit Brigadoon.

I first met Brigadoon at a private event. I got invited because someone knew me as a drummer. Brigadoon has since become my family. I feel loved and accepted for all my weirdness and awkwardness. We laugh until we cry. We’re always the last to stop drumming in the wee hours of the morning. Brigadoon is my home. Brigadoon doesn’t choose you… You choose Brigadoon! This place is for you, too. Bring an instrument and be prepared for unpredictable shenanigans, cartwheels, random coolers of gourmet pickles and DRUMMING!

The best clan experience on the renaissance festival campgrounds. The people of Brigadoon are diverse, welcoming, open, sincere, and super fun. Music and especially drumming is at the heart of Brigadoon and the absolute best drummers and musicians on the entire campgrounds can found around its communal campfire and brings a festive soul and flavor that cannot be replicated. You find people singing, dancing, cheering deep into the night and brings a soul and flavor that is unmatched. The beauty of all the spacious military-style canvas tents and their tasteful decor is very special. One large tent serves as a swanky lounge complete with wood burning stove, a bar, Victorian furniture, and more. The Brigadoon experience is the most special part of camping at the Texas Renaissance Festival.

One night had wandered too far into the mist, following the faint sound of drums that seemed to echo from nowhere and everywhere at once. Then, without warning, the fog parted, revealing a village I knew shouldn’t exist. Brigadoon. Lanterns swayed from posts, casting golden light on scruffy faces and canvas army tents pitched in orderly rows, their edges flapping softly in the breeze. Pirates roamed among the tents, their coats adorned with silver buttons and their boots caked with dirt. One of them, a rogue with a mischievous grin, offered me a hand. I hesitated only a moment before he pulled me into a wild dance, the music from djembes and doumbeks spinning us faster and faster. Laughter burst from my chest as we moved between tents and tables laden with food that smelled too good to be real. I joined the feast, tearing into fresh bread and roasted meats that melted on my tongue. The pirates swapped tales of dirt fairies from year past, and the villagers shared stories of magic and old traditions, their voices weaving a tapestry of wonder. Everything tasted sharper, fuller, as if every bite and word held a century of flavor. As the sky deepened to indigo, we gathered around a bonfire so large it seemed to touch the stars. The drums grew louder, their beat thrumming through my bones. We danced in a circle, pirates and villagers together, shadows leaping with the flames. I lost myself in the rhythm, in the crackle of fire and the pulse of the drums. For the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t chasing magic—I was living it. 10/10 would visit again
