Location and Accessibility
Buffalo Point Campground is perfectly situated at Hwy 268 E, Yellville, AR 72687, USA. This prime location places it directly within the Buffalo National River Park, offering unparalleled access to one of Arkansas's most beloved natural treasures. For those of us living across Arkansas, Yellville is an accessible destination, generally involving a scenic drive through the beautiful Ozark Mountains. The campground's address on Highway 268 E means it's straightforward to find once you're in the vicinity of Yellville.
Being part of the Buffalo National River means you are immersed in an area of protected natural beauty. The park is renowned for its clear, free-flowing river, majestic bluffs, and extensive trail system. While the campground offers a feeling of being deep in nature, it's not so remote that it becomes difficult to reach. The roads leading to Buffalo Point are well-maintained, accommodating both RVs and vehicles towing campers. However, it's always wise to check road conditions, especially during inclement weather, as is standard practice for any wilderness area.
The surrounding area of Yellville offers small-town charm and a few basic amenities, but the primary draw is, of course, the river and the park itself. Given its popularity, especially during peak floating season in the summer, planning your trip and making reservations well in advance is highly recommended. While cell phone service can be spotty within the campground (a common characteristic of beautiful, secluded natural areas), a short drive up the hill to the ranger station usually provides a signal, allowing you to stay connected when needed. This balance of being "off the grid" yet having a connection point nearby makes Buffalo Point an ideal escape for those looking to disconnect and reconnect with nature.
Services Offered
Features / Highlights
Promotions or Special Offers
As Buffalo Point Campground is part of the National Park Service system, specific "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense (like discounts or loyalty programs) are generally not typical. Pricing for campsites is usually standardized by the National Park Service, and revenue goes directly to supporting the maintenance and operation of the park.
However, for Arkansas residents, the value of Buffalo Point lies in its accessibility as a premier natural resource right in our own state. While there aren't individual promotions, visitors can often find cost savings by utilizing federal passes if they plan to visit multiple national parks or federal recreation areas throughout the year. For example, the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass provides access to federal recreation sites that charge entrance or standard amenity fees.
The main "offer" here is the consistent, high-quality outdoor experience at a reasonable fee, allowing access to the unparalleled beauty and recreational opportunities of the Buffalo National River. Given its popularity, especially during the summer, the best strategy for Arkansans is to plan ahead and secure reservations well in advance, rather than waiting for discounts. This ensures you get to experience one of our state's most sought-after camping destinations without the disappointment of full sites. Always check the official National Park Service website for the most current pricing and reservation details for Buffalo Point Campground.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For us Arkansans, Buffalo Point Campground isn't just another place to pitch a tent; it's a vital connection to the heart of our state's natural heritage. What makes it incredibly suitable for locals is its direct access to the Buffalo National River, a true gem that many of us grew up hearing about or visiting. Having a well-maintained, amenity-rich campground directly on its banks means that the unparalleled beauty and recreational opportunities of the Buffalo River are literally at our fingertips. We don't have to travel far to experience world-class floating, challenging hikes, or just the simple joy of riverside relaxation.
The positive reviews highlight features that genuinely matter to local campers: "excellent" and "beautiful" surroundings, "fairly level" sites for easy setup (a real bonus for RVers), and "the best I've ever seen" bathrooms and showers. These practical comforts elevate the camping experience, allowing us to fully enjoy nature without sacrificing basic amenities. For families, this means a more comfortable and enjoyable trip, making it easier to introduce younger generations to the wonders of the outdoors.
The emphasis on outdoor activities, from floating to hiking, perfectly aligns with the active lifestyles many Arkansans embrace. We appreciate opportunities to explore our state's diverse landscapes, and Buffalo Point offers an abundance of trails and river access points. While the limited cell service within the campground might seem like a drawback to some, for many of us, it's a welcomed feature – a chance to truly disconnect from digital distractions and fully immerse ourselves in the natural environment. And for those who need it, the nearby ranger station provides a convenient signal boost.
Finally, its popularity, especially during the summer, speaks volumes. It's a testament to its quality and desirability among those who know Arkansas's outdoors best. This means that while planning ahead for reservations is crucial, the payoff is a guaranteed, high-quality experience. Buffalo Point Campground offers us Arkansans a convenient, comfortable, and deeply rewarding way to connect with the iconic Buffalo National River, fostering memories that will last a lifetime. It’s a perfect retreat to experience the wild, untamed beauty of our own backyard.

This campground is excellent!Beautiful area right on the Buffalo river.Access for rv and tent camping. Sites were fairly level for easy set up.Site length is a thing here though, so check that when booking a camp site.We have a 24' camper and the driver in and access to the site was easy, however had to park truck parallel to the road or in extra parking space over by bathrooms. Bathrooms and showers here for campers are probably the best I've ever seen in a river campground.Cell phone service was non existent in the campground, however you could drive back up the hill to the ranger station and get signal. There's tons of outdoor activities in this beautiful area. Plan ahead for reservation at this campground because it's very busy during the summer floating season . We will definitely go back again!!!
May 11, 2025 · Bill ClarkBeautiful place to camp with some amazing electric sites, hiking, and floating available. I brought my TravelFi and we were able to have cell service and stream movies at night from our campsite.
Mar 25, 2025 · NinjaV SilvasVery beautiful place to camp. I'm looking forward to going back. The camp host was nice and helpful.
Apr 27, 2025 · Debi HarrisVery beautiful place for sure. We booked for a week but had to leave. Our site was so uneven we couldn't get our camper leveled. There's no cell service except at the restaurant that wasn't open. But a awesome picture moment. If we were 30 years younger and could walk the trails we would have stayed the week. This is definitely a place for younger people. But you want to escape from the world this is the place.
Sep 18, 2024 · CargilWe stayed at Buffalo Point at camp c with our family of six including two teens, our 8 year old and our toddler. Everyone had such a wonderful time. The campsite is walkable to a very shallow part of the river where the kids can enjoy the water. It also was conveniently located and a 2 minute drive to the swim-able spot of the river. We tent camped and had enough room to put up two four person tents to accommodate our family. Each of the campsites around us had their own water and electrical hook up which was very helpful. The bathroom with flushable toilets were clean & showers were warm. The accessibility shower had a bench that made prepping my toddler for showers easy. Both of which were a short walk from our camp site. The only down side is that you have to bring in/purchase your own wood. We originally booked our trip over the labor day weekend with two night being at two different sites because that was all they had. We recieved a call from the park ranger the day before our departure saying they had a cancellation and can move our family to a site that wouldn't require us to move. We were truly grateful for the thought and consideration in the call. We were even more grateful that the rangers checked in on us after the first night to make sure everything was OK. Overall a wonderful campsite for families we definitely would recommend
