One long-time local, fondly recalling childhood memories, shared, "Best campground you’ll ever stay at!! These people will do anything to make you comfy and accommodate your memory making on the Buffalo River. Born and raised a Gilbert girl and once upon a time I used to bug this campground till they closed at night ;)) I’ll forever miss running up and down this campground and I can’t wait to visit again!!" This sentiment highlights the deep connection many locals feel to this special place.
While recent feedback also includes a concerning review regarding customer service interactions, it is important for prospective visitors to consider the full spectrum of experiences and the established history of the campground's role in facilitating access to the beloved Buffalo River. The management's stated aim is to "please," and for many, their stay has been overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing the prime location and the accommodating nature that makes memory-making effortless.
Gilbert RV Campground & Cabins is ideally situated at 36 Frost St, Gilbert, AR 72636, USA. This address places it squarely in the heart of Gilbert, Arkansas, a town that holds the unique distinction of being the only community directly on the Buffalo National River. This location is a major asset for anyone planning to enjoy the river, as many outfitters and river access points are just a short walk or drive away. The Gilbert gravel bar, a popular river access point, is easily reachable from the campground.
Accessing Gilbert is relatively straightforward. The town is located off Highway 65, just north of where the highway crosses the Buffalo River. Visitors turn at Ferguson’s Restaurant onto Highway 333 East, which leads directly to Gilbert, approximately 3.3 miles. This makes the campground highly accessible for RVs and vehicles, even though Gilbert retains its quaint, small-town charm with a population sign proudly proclaiming "population 33." Gilbert RV Campground & Cabins boasts several key features and highlights that make it an attractive destination for those looking to experience the natural beauty of the Arkansas Ozarks and the Buffalo National River.
- Unbeatable Location on the Buffalo River: This is arguably the biggest highlight. Being in Gilbert, "the only town on the Buffalo River," means direct and easy access to the river itself. Guests can walk to the river for floating, fishing, swimming, or simply enjoying the tranquil waters. As one reviewer mentioned, "When they advertise a stones throw from the Buffalo river, they mean it."
- Variety of Accommodations: The park offers a choice between RV sites, "Shot Gun Shack" cabins, and a larger one-bedroom cabin, catering to diverse preferences and needs. This flexibility allows different types of travelers, from RV owners to those seeking a more rustic cabin experience, to find suitable lodging.
- Quaint Town Experience: Gilbert itself is celebrated for its quaint and enjoyable atmosphere. With a small population and historic elements like the 1901 Gilbert General Store, it offers a charming backdrop to your outdoor adventure. Guests can explore local artistry, dining, and occasionally live music in the warmer months.
- Access to Outdoor Activities: Beyond floating, the area surrounding Gilbert provides abundant opportunities for hiking along interconnected trails, cycling, horseback riding, and stargazing. Gilbert is recognized as an International Dark Sky Park, offering incredible views of the Milky Way, a unique highlight for evening enjoyment.
- Friendly and Accommodating Spirit (as noted by many): While there was one negative review concerning customer service, numerous other reviews highlight the owners' friendly and accommodating nature. Many guests praise their willingness to go "above and beyond to make you comfy and accommodate your memory making."
- Well-Stocked Store: The presence of an on-site store that "contains everything you may need plus some!" is a significant convenience, especially in a small town where immediate access to supplies might otherwise be limited.
- Pet-Friendly Options (for RV/Tent sites): While cabins have a strict no-pet policy, RV and tent campers can generally bring their furry companions (though confirmation with management is always wise), allowing more families to enjoy the outdoors together.
These features combine to make Gilbert RV Campground & Cabins a well-rounded and appealing choice for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and local charm of the Arkansas Ozarks.

Customer Reviews
Very rude yelled at my wife who is only 26 years old and i do not recommend coming here they definitely need to work on there customer service and are rude as hell me and my wife were having a great day till the owner tried to act like women didn’t know anything and tell my wife how to back a camper in you were using age and gender to determine her skills driving you are not her father or husband so don’t even try to play innocent you defiantly are lieing all through the interview me and my wife hadn’t been arguing
Best campground you’ll ever stay at!! These people will do anything to make you comfy and accommodate your memory making on the Buffalo River. Born and raised a Gilbert girl and once upon a time I used to bug this campground till they closed at night ;)) I’ll forever miss running up and down this campground and I can’t wait to visit again!!
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Gilbert RV Campground. We arrived in the rain and the owner (Jim) helped direct me while backing into our site. We enjoyed many conversations with Jim during our stay. Also enjoyed watching his dogs ride with him on the golf cart and herd the chickens every evening. Very accommodating and always making sure we had everything we needed. Gave us directions and information to local attractions. Location is great. Short walk to river outfitter and Buffalo River. If we ever visit the area again, we will definitely stay there again.
Wonderful location in the beautiful Ozark Mountains on the Buffalo National River. Jim and Dawn are the most gracious and kind campground owners we have ever met. They built this campground and they maintain the grounds (along with their dogs) with pride. If you are looking for a small town (and I mean small) in the Ozarks then this is your place!
This is a great place to stay, not your typical RV campground, Jim the owner was very hospitable, made my wife and I feel very welcomed. We were paid a visit by a dog one day, thought it was the owners but as it turns out, she belonged to someone in town and she likes to spend time welcoming the visitors, very nice touch. There are also chickens on the property, turns out Jim has lots of eggs from the chickens and was eager to share them with us, nothing better than fluffy omelets in the morning while watching the chickens. Over all this is a great place to camp while visiting the Buffalo River, the wife and I had a great time and we would definitely come back here, one of our top 5 places to camp.
