Caddo Drive Campground is splendidly located on Lakefront Dr, Bismarck, AR 71929, USA. This address places it directly on the shores of Lake Ouachita, one of Arkansas's largest and most pristine man-made lakes, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and forested shorelines. Bismarck is a quiet community in Garland County, situated to the southwest of Hot Springs, a major tourist hub in Arkansas.

From a broader accessibility standpoint, Caddo Drive Campground is conveniently reachable from major interstates. For instance, coming from I-30, travelers will typically exit and navigate through some country roads, as noted by a reviewer, to reach the park. However, it's also mentioned that more services are available at the "next exit" on I-30, suggesting that while the immediate approach might feel secluded, essential amenities are not far off. From Little Rock, the drive is typically around 1.5 to 2 hours, making it a feasible weekend getaway. Hot Springs is roughly a 30-40 minute drive, offering additional dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

The campground's location on Lakefront Drive implies direct access to the lake, which is a significant advantage for boaters and anglers. The sites are positioned to maximize "great views of the lake" and even "180-degree views of the lake," indicating a prime lakeside setting. While GPS systems might guide you through more rural routes, the overall accessibility from major population centers and proximity to lake recreation make Caddo Drive Campground a highly desirable location for outdoor enthusiasts in Arkansas.

Caddo Drive Campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), provides a range of services designed to support a comfortable camping experience, focusing on essential amenities within a natural setting. Based on visitor feedback and general COE campground standards, here's what you can expect:

  • RV Campsites with Hookups: The campground accommodates RVs, including larger travel trailers (as noted by a 30' trailer staying there). Sites typically offer electric hookups (30-amp and potentially 50-amp) and water hookups. While one review mentioned issues with 50-amp service (high voltage) and a non-functional 50-amp plug at a specific site, 30-amp service was available, indicating standard power provision. Sewer hookups are less common at COE campgrounds but may be available on select sites or a central dump station would be provided.
  • Restroom and Shower Facilities: The park features bathroom and shower facilities. A reviewer noted they "looked clean," although they couldn't confirm hot water availability or lighting switch functionality. The presence of these facilities is a standard service for guest convenience.
  • Well-Maintained Grounds: As a COE campground, Caddo Drive is generally known for being well-maintained and clean, ensuring a pleasant environment for campers. The beautiful lake views and overall park aesthetic contribute to this perception.
  • Direct Lake Access: A key service for boaters and anglers, the campground provides direct access to Lake Ouachita, including boat ramps or easy shoreline access for water activities.
  • On-Site Management/Camp Host: COE campgrounds typically have either park rangers or a camp host on site. While not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, this presence usually ensures rules are enforced, basic assistance is available, and the park is managed effectively.
  • Individual Site Amenities: Most sites would include a picnic table and a fire ring/grill for outdoor cooking and enjoyment, standard for a developed campground.

Caddo Drive Campground shines with several key features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for campers in Arkansas, particularly those drawn to the beauty of Lake Ouachita.

  • Stunning Lake Views: This is the paramount highlight. Guests consistently rave about the "Great views of the lake" and "180 degree views of the lake." Many sites are positioned to offer incredible, unobstructed vistas of Lake Ouachita's clear waters, providing a picturesque backdrop for your camping experience.
  • Prime Lake Ouachita Location: Being situated directly on Lake Ouachita, one of Arkansas's most beloved lakes, means direct access to a plethora of water-based activities. This includes exceptional fishing (known for bass, crappie, catfish), boating, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding on crystal-clear waters.
  • Beautiful Park Setting: The overall park environment is described as "beautiful," suggesting well-maintained natural surroundings that enhance the camping experience. The mid-November stay mentioned by a reviewer implies that even in cooler months, the natural beauty is impressive.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) Quality: COE campgrounds are generally known for their robust construction, spacious sites, and focus on natural resource preservation. This often translates to a high standard of maintenance and a well-designed camping area.
  • Spacious Sites (Implied): While not explicitly stated, COE campgrounds often feature more spacious sites compared to some private parks, allowing for comfortable maneuvering of larger RVs like the 30' travel trailer mentioned in a review. This contributes to privacy and ease of setup.
  • Clean Facilities (Generally): Despite specific issues with power on one site, the bathrooms and showers "looked clean," indicating a general commitment to cleanliness in common areas.
  • Tranquil Off-Season Experience: The mid-November stay highlights that the campground offers a peaceful and less crowded experience during the off-season, which can be a significant draw for campers seeking solitude and quiet.

As a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campground, Caddo Drive Campground typically operates on a standardized rate structure, meaning it doesn't often feature dynamic "Promotions or Special Offers" like privately-owned campgrounds might. However, there are inherent benefits and potential discounts that act as standing offers for eligible campers, which are important for Arkansans to know:

  • Affordable Standard Rates: COE campgrounds are generally known for offering some of the most affordable camping rates compared to private RV parks, especially considering the quality of their locations and facilities. This makes the standard rate itself a continuous "promotion" of value.
  • Federal Recreation Passes: For U.S. citizens, several federal recreation passes can offer discounts on camping fees at COE sites. The most common is the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. Specifically:
    • Senior Pass: Available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 62 or over. This typically provides a 50% discount on camping fees (excluding hookups or other amenity fees).
    • Access Pass: Available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. This also typically provides a 50% discount on camping fees (excluding hookups or other amenity fees).
    • Annual Pass: While not offering a discount on camping fees, it covers entrance fees at federal sites, which can be beneficial if visiting other federal recreation areas.
  • Booking Through Recreation.gov: COE campground reservations are typically made through Recreation.gov. While not a promotion, this standardized system allows campers to view availability and pricing transparently.

It is crucial to present your federal recreation pass upon arrival to receive any applicable discounts. Discounts typically apply to the campsite fee itself and may not cover additional charges for specific hookups. For the most current pricing, detailed discount eligibility, and to make reservations, always refer to the official Recreation.gov website or contact the park directly.

We stayed here on an overnight at one of our first COE campgrounds. With our 30’ travel trailer. We stayed in mid-November. The park is beautiful with 180 degree views of the lake. We used none of the facilities although the bathroom and showers looked clean, but do not know whether the water in the showers was hot. We weren’t sure how they were going to be lit since there were no switches for the lights. Our only problem with the campground was the difficulties we experienced with power. The site we had reserved (59) did not give any power to our RV surge protector on 50 amps. We moved to Site 60. Here the 50 amp plug was giving too high of voltage (over 130v). We switched to 30 amp plug and were able to get by with only 30 amps although we did forget we were on 30 amp and tripped the breaker. Coming from I 30, the GPS took us through the country. Getting back on I 30, we found many more services available at the next exit which we had never imagined were so close. One other concern was the drop off from the RV pad. We positioned our door as to not be able to get out of the RV safely in the dark. We are returning as we head back.

This is a wonderful campground! Has a nice swimming beach. It's a little primitive, but that's far preferable to me!

Wonderful campground. I’ve been coming here for decades. An old couple are now campground host, not friendly. Show me your papers! When you arrive, then they drive around looking at your camp. Drove by my camp 4 times really slow. Stopped and asked if my bicycle was electric! Nosy busybodies with nothing to do but harass campers I guess. One star because of the nosy busy body host. Otherwise 5 stars for the campground
