Camp Meade RV Park About

Hello, Maryland residents and service members! If you're looking for a convenient, full-service RV camping experience with excellent amenities in the heart of Central Maryland, then Camp Meade RV Park in Fort Meade, MD, is a highly regarded option. This park specifically caters to a unique clientele, making it a valuable resource for eligible individuals connected to the U.S. armed forces.

Camp Meade RV Park is situated on the sprawling Fort George G. Meade military installation. As such, it operates under the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Outdoor Recreation (ODR) program, providing recreational opportunities for the military community. This means that access to the park and its services is typically restricted to authorized patrons, including active-duty military, retirees, National Guard and Reserve members, DoD civilians, and their sponsored guests. Understanding this eligibility requirement is the first step to planning your stay.

Reviews from past visitors highlight many positive aspects of the park. "We totally enjoyed our stay. The bathroom/lounge/laundry is very clean. The sites are level and a nice size. The camp store staff is friendly. Fast food and gas stations are close by. The grounds are kept up and sites are full service. We'll be back," enthused one happy camper. Another noted the "Standard FHU and nice spacing," and that the "park itself is very nice." These comments paint a picture of a well-maintained facility offering crucial conveniences for RV travelers.

However, it's also important to be aware of certain aspects of booking and stay management. One review expressed frustration with "ODR customer service and weekly moving to a different spot," stating that "almost half of the RV campers are required to move weekly" without clear reasons, even when spots remained open. This suggests that while the physical park is excellent, the administrative process for longer stays might require careful navigation and flexibility.

This comprehensive guide will provide you with all the essential details about Camp Meade RV Park. We’ll cover its location and accessibility (with an emphasis on military base access), the valuable services and amenities it offers, its key features and highlights, and important considerations for booking your stay. This will help eligible Marylanders and visitors make the most of this unique RV park.

Location and Accessibility

Camp Meade RV Park is located at 2300 Wilson St, Fort Meade, MD 20755, USA. This places it directly on Fort George G. Meade, a major military installation in Anne Arundel County, Central Maryland. Its location offers unparalleled convenience for military personnel, DoD civilians, and their families stationed at or visiting the base.

Accessing Camp Meade RV Park requires entry onto Fort Meade. Visitors must be authorized patrons (active duty, retired military, National Guard/Reserve, DoD civilians, or sponsored guests) and possess proper identification to gain entry through the base gates. It's crucial to check current base access requirements and gate hours before your arrival, as these can change. Once on base, directional signage will guide you to the RV park.

The park's setting on a military installation offers a secure and controlled environment. Despite being on a large base, the RV park aims to provide a dedicated, comfortable space. Its central Maryland location means easy access to a wide range of off-base amenities and attractions. Fast food and gas stations are "close by," as noted by a reviewer, making resupply simple. Additionally, the park benefits from its proximity to major Maryland highways such as Route 175, Route 32, and Interstate 95 (I-95), facilitating travel to:

  • Baltimore: A short drive north for urban attractions, dining, and cultural sites.
  • Washington D.C.: Easily accessible for national monuments, museums, and historical landmarks.
  • Annapolis: The state capital and its historic waterfront are also within a reasonable driving distance.

This combination of on-base security and convenient off-base access makes Camp Meade RV Park an exceptionally practical choice for eligible travelers exploring Central Maryland or needing temporary housing near Fort Meade.

  • Spacious and Level Sites: Reviewers noted "nice size" and "level" sites, making set-up easier and providing comfortable living space for RVs of various sizes.
  • Convenient On-Base Amenities: Access to the camp store, laundry facilities, and a lounge area directly within the park adds to the ease of stay.
  • Proximity to Base Facilities: RV park residents have access to Fort Meade's extensive MWR facilities, which may include fitness centers, dining options, recreational programs, and commissaries/PX, depending on eligibility.
  • Easy Off-Base Access: Despite being on a military installation, the park's location near base gates provides quick access to major roads and nearby off-base amenities like gas stations and fast food, as well as broader regional attractions.
  • Managed by MWR Outdoor Recreation (ODR): This indicates a professional management structure aimed at supporting military quality of life, though some administrative processes might require flexibility, as noted by some reviews regarding site moves.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a military MWR facility, Camp Meade RV Park does not typically run commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional sense. Its pricing structure is set by the Department of Defense and MWR, aiming to provide affordable recreational options for authorized patrons.

  • Affordable Daily/Weekly Rates: The primary "offer" is generally competitive daily and weekly rates designed to be cost-effective for military personnel and their families. Specific rates would need to be confirmed directly with the park office.
  • Long-Term Stay Options: While there are notes about required weekly moves for some, the park does accommodate longer stays, suggesting a structured system for extended residency. Inquire directly about monthly rates and the long-term stay policies.
  • Eligibility for Use: The primary "qualification" for use is being an authorized DoD patron (active duty, retired military, National Guard/Reserve, DoD civilian) or a sponsored guest. This access itself is a significant benefit.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, specific reservation policies (especially regarding long-term stays and potential site moves), and eligibility requirements, it is essential to contact Camp Meade RV Park directly or the Fort Meade Outdoor Recreation (ODR) office.

We totally enjoyed our stay. The bathroom/lounge/laundry is very clean. The sites are level and a nice size. The camp store staff is friendly. Fast food and gas stations are close by. The grounds are kept up and sites are full service. You have to have served or sponsored by a service person prior to your stay. We'll be back.

I would have given this location a higher rating. The park itself is very nice. Standard FHU and nice spacing. Greenery a bit over grown but it's manageable. However the ODR customer service and weekly moving to a different spot really dampened the experience. For some reason, almost half of the RV campers are required to move weekly. Some people who will stay longer periods of time had to move 4 times. When asked the reason why, all said they didn't know the reason, despite their spot being open for several days afterwards. Most people thought it was a power trip issue bc ODR WOULD NOT provide a reason either. So think twice before committing.

We stayed a week thanks to our Grandson's sponsorship. The sites were flat and a nice size. The checkin staff was very friendly. A lounge with wifi, laundry and bathrooms were very clean. Restaurants and stores were conveniently located. I.D.s were required when entering the base.

Quiet Shaded Park, Never seem to cut the grass. No after hours staff. Grass growing in the patio areas. No place to boat or kyack. Not much for children to do at the campground. It's ok.

The RV area is laid out around your standard kind of loop. It appears that just about all the spaces are pretty darn level. There's plenty of room at each spot, and it's very well shaded. No worries about being in what resembles an open parking lot at this RV Park. The reservations area has very experienced and very helpful people working at it who work to keep their patients and explain everything in a nice manner. They also will give out brochures etc of the post so that you can find your way around. As for the park itself, it is well shaded and reasonably spacious. We were able to get a space about a 60 second walk away from the hard bathrooms and laundry area. Just about every space that I saw seem to be very level which is very pleasing to see. I'd consider this a great place to stay whether you have only a few days need, or in our case - more than a few days. Two thumbs up.
