Campsite 77 About

For Marylanders seeking a genuine outdoor experience, a refreshing escape into nature, or a family-friendly camping adventure, Ridge Rider Campground in Little Orleans, MD, stands as an inviting destination. Formerly known to some as "Campsite 77," this expansive campground offers a wide array of amenities and activities, all set within 222 acres of picturesque woodlands in the Upper Potomac River valley. It's a place where the charm of Western Maryland's mountains meets comfortable camping, providing an ideal setting for both relaxation and exploration.

Ridge Rider Campground prides itself on offering a "total camping experience," catering to various preferences, from those who prefer the ruggedness of tent camping to RV enthusiasts and even those looking for the comforts of a cabin. While one review noted sites being "close to neighbors" despite a "rough road" leading to the campground, the overall sentiment points to a well-maintained facility with plenty to offer. Each site comes equipped with essential features like a fire ring and a picnic table, encouraging traditional campfire gatherings and outdoor dining experiences.

The campground's strategic location provides unparalleled access to a wealth of outdoor recreational opportunities. It's a gateway to the vast Green Ridge State Forest, offering extensive hiking and mountain biking trails, and is just a short distance from the historic Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, perfect for hiking, biking, and even horseback riding. The presence of a stocked trout stream (Fifteen-mile Creek) running through the property and a small fishing pond adds to its appeal, especially for families with young children. Ridge Rider Campground strives to be a destination where there's "always something to see and do regardless of the season," making it a year-round potential spot for Maryland residents.

Location and Accessibility

Ridge Rider Campground is situated at 31661 Green Forest Drive SE, Little Orleans, MD 21766, USA. This prime location in the Upper Potomac River valley in Western Maryland makes it a fantastic outdoor getaway for residents across the state. While the address might suggest a secluded spot, its accessibility is quite good for those traveling by car.

From major routes like I-68, visitors can take the "Orleans Road" Exit 68. From there, it's approximately 5.5 miles south on Orleans Road (without any turns off this road). At the end of Orleans Road, a right turn onto Oldtown Orleans Road, followed by about a third of a mile, will lead directly to the campground entrance on the right. While one review mentioned a "rough road," this typically refers to the final stretch of unpaved or less-maintained road leading to such a natural setting, which is common for campgrounds seeking a secluded feel. This travel route ensures that even larger RVs can reach the destination, albeit with care on the final segment. The setting itself, nestled within beautiful woodlands, offers a true escape from urban life, yet it remains within a manageable driving distance for many Marylanders.

Nice site but close to neighbors. 5 miles down a rough road it would be nice to not be so close. Long pond trailhead nearby...a good out and back with hills and great views. Sites come with fire ring and picnic table
