This individual campsite offers a truly rustic and authentic outdoor experience, far from the bustling amenities of larger campgrounds. While it presents some unique characteristics that seasoned campers will appreciate, it’s designed for those who embrace the challenge and beauty of less conventional terrain. If your ideal camping trip involves a personal connection with the landscape and a stunning vista, Campsite 78 invites you to explore its unique charm.
Campsite 78 is not your typical RV-friendly, perfectly manicured plot. Instead, it offers a more rugged and intimate connection with the natural environment. Imagine setting up your tent on a hillside, with the reward of a "wonderful view" stretching out before you. Its proximity to 15 Mile Creek adds to the serene ambiance, offering the soothing sounds of flowing water and opportunities for riverside exploration. This site caters specifically to tent campers who are prepared for unlevel ground and who value privacy and scenic beauty over extensive amenities. It's a place where the focus is truly on the natural surroundings and the simple joys of outdoor living, appealing to those Marylanders who seek an unadorned and peaceful retreat from everyday life.
Campsite 78 is located in Little Orleans, MD 21766, USA. This address places it within a more rural and naturally rich part of Maryland, known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. Little Orleans is nestled in Allegany County, in the western part of the state, an area characterized by rolling hills, forests, and waterways.
Access to Campsite 78 would typically involve travel on state routes and local roads leading into the Little Orleans area. While the exact location within Little Orleans might require specific directions upon arrival, its general placement suggests a destination that feels remote and immersed in nature, yet is ultimately accessible for Maryland residents. It's important to note that due to its rustic nature and location, personal vehicle transportation would be essential for reaching the site, as public transport options are unlikely to serve this rural area.
The secluded nature of Little Orleans means that while you'll be enveloped by natural beauty, major urban amenities might be a drive away. However, this is precisely part of the appeal for campers seeking solitude. Local services for basic supplies might be found in nearby small towns, but campers are generally advised to come prepared with all necessary provisions. The key highlight of this location is its immersion in the natural landscape, offering a genuine escape from urban environments.
Campsite 78, as an individual campsite, offers a very basic and rustic set of services, emphasizing a minimalist camping experience. It's important for prospective campers to understand that this is not a full-service campground with extensive amenities, but rather a site designed for self-sufficient tent campers. Based on the provided reviews, the services primarily revolve around the site itself:
- Designated Campsite: The core service is the provision of a specific, numbered campsite (Campsite 78) for individual use.
- Tent Camping Focus: The site is primarily geared towards tent camping. While it has "a few small level spots for tent camping," campers should anticipate largely "slanted" or "unlevel ground" for tent placement.
- Basic Ground Area: It provides a defined space for pitching a tent and setting up a basic camp, suitable for one to two small tents, though even two small tents might be a "stretch."
- Proximity to 15 Mile Creek: While not a direct service, the site's location "Close to 15 mile creek" implies access to a natural water source (for non-potable use or observation) and potential recreational opportunities associated with the creek.
- Views: The site offers a "Wonderful view," which can be considered a natural amenity provided by its sloped positioning.
It's crucial to reiterate that traditional campground services such as restrooms, showers, potable water hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, or dedicated parking for trailers are not indicated or implied by the reviews. Campers should assume a primitive camping experience where they bring all their own equipment and are self-sufficient for waste management and sanitation. The description explicitly states it is "Not recommend for camping trailers."
Campsite 78, while simple in its offerings, features distinct highlights that appeal to a specific type of camper. Understanding these features is key to appreciating its unique character:
- Wonderful View: This is a consistent and highly praised highlight. The elevated or sloped nature of the site provides a "Wonderful view," suggesting scenic vistas of the surrounding natural landscape, which can be a significant draw for nature photographers or those seeking a beautiful backdrop for their camp.
- Proximity to 15 Mile Creek: Being "Close to 15 mile creek" is a notable feature, offering access to the sounds of flowing water, potential for quiet exploration along the banks, or even fishing opportunities (subject to local regulations and licenses).
- Rustic and Primitive Camping Experience: For those who prefer a true "back-to-basics" camping style without the distractions of modern amenities or crowded RV parks, Campsite 78 offers an authentic primitive experience. It's a place where you genuinely connect with the raw environment.
- Secluded Feel: The nature of an individual, less developed campsite often means a greater sense of privacy and solitude compared to larger, more densely packed campgrounds.
- Challenge for Experienced Tent Campers: While the unlevel terrain might be a drawback for some, for seasoned tent campers, finding a "good spot" and making it work can be part of the adventure and a test of their outdoor skills.
However, it is equally important to highlight the significant feature that is also a major challenge: the sloped terrain. Reviews repeatedly mention the site being "on a slope/hillside," "very slanted," and having "virtually no level ground." This means:
- Limited Level Spots: There are "a few small level spots for tent camping," but finding them and fitting more than one small tent can be difficult.
- Not Suitable for RVs/Trailers: It is "Not recommend for camping trailers."
- Preparation is Key: Campers must be prepared for uneven ground, which impacts sleeping comfort and tent setup. This is a crucial consideration for anyone planning a stay.
Given that Campsite 78 appears to be an individual, primitive campsite rather than a commercial campground with extensive facilities, it is highly unlikely to offer "promotions or special offers" in the traditional sense. Pricing for such sites is usually fixed by the managing authority (e.g., state park, national forest, or a specific private landowner if it's not part of a larger system). These sites are typically priced based on their basic offering, with the primary "value" being the access to nature and the specific features of the site itself (like the view or creek proximity).
Therefore, prospective campers should not expect to find discounts for extended stays, seasonal rates, or special holiday promotions for Campsite 78. Any "offers" would be limited to the standard booking rates set by the managing entity. It's always advisable to verify the current pricing and any applicable fees (such as reservation fees, entrance fees to a larger park if applicable, or per-person charges) directly with the booking authority for this specific campsite.
The core appeal of Campsite 78 lies in its inherent features – the view, proximity to the creek, and the rustic camping experience – rather than financial incentives. Its affordability, compared to full-service campgrounds, might be considered its inherent "promotion" for budget-conscious, adventurous campers.

Customer Reviews
Campsite 78 is is on a slope/ hillside does have a few small level spots for tent camping. But, most of the sight is very slanted. Not recommend for camping trailers or drunks lol. Wonderful view. Close to 15 mile creek.
The person who said that this site is fairly level must have been confusing 78 with another site. This site has virtually no level ground. I struggled to find a good spot for a one person tent, but ultimately made it work. If you're tent camping, even two small tents is a bit of a stretch for this site. Other than that, a perfectly serviceable site.
Great site that is fairly level, spacious for several vehicles and tents, and nice and grassy green. I especially like that this is a fairly private site even though it is right along the red trail as it does the road.
Green Ridge State Park is great for primitive camping. 4x4 recommended for road access ! Inexpensive and not crowded (weekdays).
No level ground
