Services Offered
Features / Highlights
Promotions or Special Offers
As a State Forest Campground managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Canoe Lake State Forest Campground does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might. State Forest Campgrounds operate on a standard fee structure, which is generally quite affordable, reflecting their rustic nature. The primary "offer" at Canoe Lake is the unique, peaceful, and highly sought-after rustic camping experience it provides, especially given its prime location near Munising and Pictured Rocks. Due to its "first come first serve" policy for its four campsites, there are no reservation systems or booking incentives. The value comes from the pristine natural environment, the meticulously clean vault toilet, and the direct access to Canoe Lake for paddle sports, all at a modest nightly rate. For Michigan residents, the appeal lies in securing one of these coveted spots, particularly on a "4 day weekend," which is often considered "lucking out." To understand the current nightly camping fees and any specific regulations, prospective campers should refer to the official Michigan DNR website for State Forest Campgrounds or look for posted information at the campground entrance. The inherent affordability and unique experience are the primary draws, rather than temporary discounts.
Contact Information
For Michigan residents interested in visiting Canoe Lake State Forest Campground, it's important to note that as a rustic, first-come, first-served campground, there isn't a direct reservation or booking phone number for individual campsites. All sites operate on a walk-in basis. The physical address for navigation is Shingleton, MI 49884, USA. To get the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding Canoe Lake State Forest Campground, including general rules, current fees, and any alerts (such as closures or specific conditions), it is highly recommended to consult the official Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website. The DNR manages all State Forest Campgrounds, and their website will have a dedicated section for this type of camping, often providing maps, facility details, and contact information for the relevant DNR management unit responsible for the area. While a specific phone number for the campground office isn't typically available for rustic sites, the Michigan DNR's main information lines or the local DNR field office number for the Shingleton area would be the appropriate contacts for general inquiries about state forest camping policies. Always check official DNR resources before your trip to ensure you have the latest information for your rustic camping adventure at Canoe Lake.

Beautiful little lake with 4 camp sites & boat launch. First come first serve sites, no reservations, we lucked out & got the last site for a 4 day weekend. Great location very close to Munising & pictured rocks, close to public beaches also. Nice sites, no running water, vault toilet (that was VERY clean) picnic table & a fire pit. If you're a rustic camper, I highly recommend Canoe Lake. And as the name implies, a fantastic place to bring a canoe or kayak!
